Set Up: It’s time for Sam’s tattoo. He’s still frightened, but his brother and Littlefoot are there to help. And to make matters worse, Sammy keeps throwing up every time he tries to eat anything besides the milk that De-de heats up and he hates it. He also chooses to explore the library and finds something to play with (or in)

My story takes place at the end of Chapter 23 (Chapter 19 Part Three) of Pixieleigh1234.

Work Text:

The ink was ready for the protection tattoo and Sammy was hell bent on NOT GOING.

Granted it had helped that Dean had taken him to the house and shown him everything but now they were back at the main house and walking towards the impala.

Well Dean was walking, Sam was being carried cause did I mention that HE DIDN’T WANT TO GO! And Sam was hell bent on getting out of his brother’s arms because HE DIDN’T WANT TO GO!

“I know bud, I know,” Dean cooed as another scream of “NO” leaves his little boy’s mouth. He had prepared for this but he only knew it was going to get worse when they actually got to the tattoo shop.

Thankfully it was a small parlor and Tom Jeffries had already told the tattoo artist about the situation and the lady was a part of the hunters group and actually lived near the Jeffries. She was good at her job and would keep what she saw, or didn’t see, quiet. Dean would make sure she kept it quiet to her grave if she spoke anything about it.

A cry right in his ear made Dean cringe. “Shh, shh,” Dean tried to calm the hysterics.

Kara had given Dean the display carseat the instant she heard the cries. She had wiped it down and put it in for the men while they had tried to distract the baby. Dean hadn’t planned on using it this soon but he knew if Sam wasn’t strapped down, he would dive out of the impala quicker than he could scream another “NO”. The car seat was in the middle so either man could reach Sammy if need be and Sam was just an inch short of his fingertips reaching the door handle, if he leaned, seeing as there was no way that there were child locks on the impala.

Sam was positively in tears as he held the blanket he had been sleeping with back at the library to his cheek with Liittlefoot under said blanket and with his casted hand wrapped around Dean’s jacket. “N-n-no De De! No go!” Sammy cried and tried to hold onto De as he put him in ‘pala. He didn’t want to go in ‘pala. His brother tried to unhook his hand from his jacket but Sammy wasn’t about to let him go. No Sir! He cried so hard that he coughed when Dean slid out of the brown leather jacket and handed it to him.

“Sammy, hey Sammy,” Dean dropped his tone so Sammy had to take a breath to hear him. “Hold onto my jacket for me okay. I’m a bit warm.” Dean gave a smile as silent tears streamed down his baby boy’s face as his poor little man nodded. He wasn’t as lucky as he thought he was because as soon as he shut the back door, with the driver door open, Sammy started crying and screaming, using his feet to his advantage as he banged them against the back on the long bench front seat. His feet had little room to gain enough power to do any damage to the front bench but that didn’t mean Dean approved of it.

“Sammy, stop it!” Dean didn’t yell by any means but Sammy still flinched and looked at him with wide eyes like Dean had threatened him with 50 spankings with the brush. Dean sighed and started over. “Sammy there is no need to hurt ‘pala ok. Be nice, I know you’re scared. Cas,” Dean looked at Cas as he hopped in the passenger side, “Cas and I are right here kiddo. We’re not going anyway.”

Sammy took a deep shaky breath and nodded. “O-ok. But still don’t want to go De-de.”

“I know bud, I know.”

Tom and Kara Jeffries were at the parlor when the impala pulled up.
The baby was much calmer than when they had left and wasn’t screaming anymore, though tears were still streaming down his red snotty face. From what Kara could see of his face. He was hiding in his big brother’s arm and had the blanket from earlier back at the library. She was happy that he had taken to the crocheted baby blue blanket. She liked to crochet when Tom was out on hunts. There was never a shortage of work that needed to be done, but sue her, Kara worried about her husband and boys when they were on hunts even though Tom was supposed to be retired. So she worried and crocheted.

Dean carried Sammy into the tattoo parlor and sat down right in the tattoo chair with Sammy on his lap. The parlor looked closed from the outside but one of the sections of chairs was lit up with everything they needed to start, except for the needles which were under a seritle cloth, thanks to the tattoo artist.
Said tattoo artist was a small red haired woman with two sleeves of tattoos that Dean could just make out a couple protective sigils among other tattoos that looked like a board game that Dean used to play with Sammy when they were younger.
“Hi Sam,” the woman sat down next to the brothers in her own chair. “My name is Heather and I’m here to help you get a cool looking tattoo,” she introduced herself with a smile as if a bigger man sitting on the lap of his brother was an everyday occurrence for her. “It’ll be painless but only if you do one special thing.”
Sam, who had stayed silent this entire time, peeked at Heather with a small pout. “What?” he whispered quietly.
“You have to hold your special friend,” she gestured to the little dinosaur, “really tight and then he helps with the pain. It’s like he takes it for you.”
“I don’t want to hurt Littlefoot!” Sam sat up with a glare.
Heather looked surprised. “Oh I know! But you can help Littlefoot too. You can comfort each other and you look like the right to comfort your best friend.”
Sam nodded as Dean watched in awe. Heather had gotten Sammy out of his shell talking about his comfort item.
“Ok, you ready to start,” Heather asked gently. Sam leaned back into Dean’s chest with a scared look. “Hold your friend really tight,” she said gently as she pushed start with her foot and the machine started.
Sammy held Littlefoot super tight as the first poke came and it didn’t help at all. He screamed! It hurt worse than the bad things that happened to him in hell.

Dean doesn’t say this often or at all actually, but today he wanted to cry for his little boy. His boy had let out an ear piercing scream at the first poke and didn’t stop till the last one was done. Dean and Cas had to hold Sammy down as Heather finished the tattoo as soon as possible. It was a protection spell and couldn’t be taken lightly. The lines had to be just so and every line had to be interlocked and strong, no overlaps. No squiggly lines. No imperfections. And that’s hard to do with a screaming toddler on your lap that is 6’4” and 150lbs. (Dean really needed to get Sammy back to a healthy weight)
They didn’t take a break, they didn’t want to chance it.

And by the end of it, 45 minutes later, Sammy was silent.

Completely silent.

He had shut down. No screaming, no crying, just trembling.

Dean sat up slowly and everyone took a deep breath. The worst was over. Sammy had his tattoo, he was safe. Hopefully.

TWELVE DAYS LATER

Sam was so comfy and wrapped up in his blanket on one of the many couches in the Jeffries library. And it was his blanket, Kara had said so!

It was a soft blue blanket that looked like the sky. Especially if Littlefoot walks across his knees that look like mountains.

But not right now, Sam shook his head to clear his head as he opened the next book in the Jeffries library. He really needed to stop daydreaming and work on finding a spell to stop Rowena from using her spells on them. He had gotten a freaking tattoo for this witch. He was OVER IT. He was also really over this little kid thing. Yup. He totally was as he snuggled deeper into his blanket and deeper into the couch he was sitting on.

With a yawn hidden behind his casted hand, he turned the page and leaned--Wait, he flipped back to the previous page.

It couldn’t be....

It couldn’t be

“DEAN!”

“What is it Sammy?”

Sam whipped his head to the right to see his brother and Cas sitting a couple feet away at the table, looking at him with concern. He hadn’t meant to yell with them sitting so close, but he found it.

He found the spell to stop Rowena.

Sam stood up and rushed over and slammed the open book on the table. “I-I found it De. Granted it’s in Latin and I think I need to brush up on it, but I think I can do it. A-And remember Mason said they found they had found her up near St. Clair’s shores but it was a dead end. Well I think it’s because they didn’t know their latin as good as me,” Sam rambled on so fast he had to pause to take a quick breath and that’s when Dean stopped him.

“Take a breath kiddo and relax okay, Which one?” Dean smiled at Sam and then looked down at the dusty book as he slid it closer. And just like Sammy had said it was in Latin and unlike Sam had said, Dean really couldn’t understand it except for a small word here or there. “What can you make out of it Cas?” He slid the book to the ex-angel.

Cas looked at it for seemed like an eternity to the boys but was only a few moments. Cas finished looking at it and then looked at Dean. “Little one’s right, this-it could work.” He looked silently at Dean for a moment than at Sam. “You did it.”

Sam looked at him in disbelief as if Cas was lying. As if Cas had found it instead of him. “Really,” he looks at Dean just to make sure and sees a smile on his brother’s face. It makes Sam feel proud that he actually did something good for once. Something that didn’t deserve spankings. It made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

“Sam,” Dean’s deep voice drew Sam back to the present.

“I did it,” Sam said with confidence now. He smiled bright and wide at both Dean and Cas with a puff in his chest. “Come on, we can stop this!”

Sam was halfway to the door before Dean caught him around the waist and pulled him to a stop. “Whoa there Sammy, relax kiddo. We don’t know where she is, so let's wait and see if Mason can find her.” Dean explained as he hoisted a wiggle Sam on his hip and pulled out his phone from his back pocket. He unconsciously bounced and shushed Sam as he dialed Kara’s number.

“Hey Deano, is something wrong with the baby,” Kara asked as soon as she heard the whimpers.

“Nothing. Sam found the spell.” Dean stood in silence with Kara for a moment as it sunk in.

“Now what?” Kara asks, breaking the silence.

“We hunt the bitch down.”
