Work Text:

Keith took a deep breath as he pulled into Lance's driveway. There had been too much happening during the war for anything to happen between them, but as soon as they'd landed on Earth, Lance had tackled Keith to the ground. "It's over." he'd said into Keith's shoulder. "It's over, Keith." Keith had laughed, overwhelmed with happiness. He'd never thought he could feel like that. And then Lance was kissing him.

And now Keith was in his drive way to pick him up for their first official date. Keith felt like high school all over again.

As much as he wanted to walk up to the door with a bouquet of flowers, Lance had asked him to just wait for him outside, so Keith got off his motorcycle and waited.

Soon, Lance stumbled out the door as if shoved and turned to the doorway. Keith couldn't see, but he was sure that there was someone there when Lance yelled, "Yeah, bye to you too," stifling his laughter.

Keith couldn't help but smile at Lance. Someone shut the door and he could see a few faces in the window. For the sake of Lance's sanity he pretended he didn't see them.

"Hey." he said as Lance walked up to him, realizing Keith had seen all of that.

"Hi, er- sorry about that," he blushed. Keith wanted to take Lance's face into his hands and kiss him until they were both breathless- but instead of that, he straddled the motorcycle and gestured for Lance to get on as well.

Lance tentatively stepped over the vehicle and gingerly sat down, remaining a good few inches away from Keith.

Keith held in his laughter, knowing that was going to change once they got on the road. "Hold on," he smirked.

Arms wrapped around his waist gently as he started up the motorcycle. Clearly Lance wasn't expecting how loud it was because he immediately flinched and tightened his grip on Keith.

"Where do you want to go?" Keith asked.

"Anywhere."

Keith pulled the motorcycle out of the driveway and Lance's arms tightened further and Keith wondered if it was safe to drive while he was so hypersensitive to everywhere their bodies were touching, Lance's head leaning against his shoulder and every breath he could feel on the back of his neck. He drove to the first place he could think of.

"We're here. You okay?" Keith asked. Sometime over the course of the ride Lance had fully buried his face in Keith's neck, and he hadn't moved since.

"Mmhmm. Don't like motorcycles." he muttered, shakily getting off the vehicle. "Wait, where are we?" he asked.

"I went here a lot when I was younger. Whenever I wanted to be alone, really." Keith explained.

"And you're... you're okay with taking me here?" Lance asked.

"Yeah, of course." He smiled, "It was years ago. It's not a big deal."

Keith had taken him to the park down the road from his apartment. After he had stolen a hover bike when he was younger, he was able to come down here whenever he wanted since he had no one to look after him and tell him not to. There was a small teepee that had rock climbing grips on the outside, but on the inside it was dark save the light that came in through small, scattered holes in the walls. He used to go there when he didn't want to be found. But Lance didn't need to know that.

There was a coffee shop a few blocks down as well, so he was planning to take Lance there when he inevitably complained about being cold.

"Want to walk around?" Keith asked.

"Sure."

They started walking around a winding trail that circled the park and cut through it occasionally, shadowed by trees that had since lost all their leaves.

It only now occurred to Keith that he'd never been on a date before. What were you even supposed to do on these? He knew the bare minimum, which was overdramatized romances he'd read, not that he'd ever ADMIT that he'd read them. And what he'd gathered from them is that you pick your date up from their house with flowers, take them on a romantic car ride to your destination, and then you drop them off at their house and you kiss. That's it.

"Hey, look!" Lance said excitedly. It pulled Keith out of his train of thought.

"What?" he looked up at him.

"It's snowing."

And it was. Tiny flakes drifted down from the sky growing bigger with each passing second.

"It's the first snow of the year!"

The excited look on Lance's face was so beautiful, Keith wanted to just watch him forever. 'Don't we have forever...?' Keith thought.

Before he was entirely out of his head, Lance slipped his fingers through Keith's, holding on tightly. He lost his breath for a second, staring at their entwined fingers. Is this what normal people do? He couldn't say he was complaining.

When he looked up, Lance was shivering. "You're cold." Keith said.

"I'll be fine."

"There's somewhere else I wanted to take you anyways." he said, "Come on."

They walked back to the motorcycle hand in hand as the snowflakes grew larger and the wind picked up. "Is it safe to drive in this?" Lance asked.

"It'll be fine, I've driven through worse." Keith assured him, "This is nothing. But you can hold onto me if you're scared." he shot the other boy a smirk before taking his jacket off and handing it to him, "Here, you'll get colder on the drive."

"Wha- I can't steal your jacket!" Lance spluttered, "Then you'll be extra cold!"

"I run hot anyways," Keith shrugged. "Here." he took the jacket back from Lance and wrapped it around the boy's shoulders. There was a faint blush dusting Lance's cheeks, but it seemed to blend in with how red his face already was from the cold. It really wasn't a big deal. Keith had been wearing a hoodie under his jacket anyways.

"Thank you." Lance murmured.

"No problem." Keith grinned before mounting the bike. "You might want to hold on."

Lance got on behind him and wrapped his arms around his waist. "Ready?" Keith asked.

"Ready."

The snow whipped around them as they made their way through the town. Cars were seldom seen on the road as most people were either at work or wanted to spend the cozy, snowy night at home.

Keith pulled up outside the local cafe, stepping off of the bike and bowing slightly, offering his hand to Lance as if he were a fairytale prince.

"Oh my God," Lance muttered, smirking and taking his hand, "and you call me dramatic."

"I'm only dramatic for you."

Keith seemed to be challenging himself to see how many times he could make Lance speechless. He was excelling at it so far.

He opened the door and held it for the other boy, "After you." he said, the corners of his mouth turning up slightly as he tried not to show his amusement.

"I'm going to get you back for this, Kogane."

"I'm counting on it."

Keith got a black coffee and Lance got a hot chocolate. They also got a chocolate cupcake that they'd messily cut in half with a plastic fork, laughing as they threw crumbs at each other.

Soon it was already time for Keith to take Lance home and he was surprised that he'd gone from wondering how to fill the time they had to the time flying by faster than he could count.

They got to Lance's house and it was better than any book Keith had ever read when Lance got off the motorcycle, maintained eye contact with Keith for a moment before leaning down and pressing their lips together. They stayed like that for a moment, kissing, until Lance pulled away and whispered, "Goodnight, Keith." Before running up to his house and glancing back for a second before shutting the door behind him.

'We do have forever, I think...' Keith thought to himself as he pulled out of the driveway again, thinking about the fact that Lance was still wearing his jacket.
