Dancing Trees

Summary:

Jack’s face brightened and he held up his phone, revealing the website for a local Christmas light show. “100 acres of Christmas lights! And, look…” he pointed to the article picture “the trees dance to Christmas music! Can we go?”

Dean and Cas looked at each other and smiled. “Of course.” Cas said and Jack excitedly hugged them both.

Work Text:

“Castiel, Dean!” Jack called out urgently. He pushed open their door and ran inside, no knock or anything. Luckily for all three of their sanity they were just asleep. Were. Dean bolted up in bed from the surprise intrusion, gun cocked and aimed in record time. “Whoa, Dean it’s just me!”

Dean blinked the last of sleep away and squinted at Jack. “Dammit, Jack! Haven’t we told you not to do that?!”

“I’m sorry…” Jack hung his head in his normal childlike demeanor, and Dean sighed.

“It’s fine.” He said sliding the gun back under his pillow.

“What did you want to tell us?” Cas added.

The air was cool and crisp, and filled with chatter and the smell of popcorn. Cas knew Jack was going to ask for a bag the moment he spotted it so he had his wallet out and ready.

Jack gasped, eyes wide, as the stand came into view and the Angel held a 5$ bill to him before he could even get the question out.

He smiled as Jack excitedly handed the popcorn guy the money and took his bag and change, thanking him. “Enjoy the lights kid.” The man told him, and Cas chuckled. If he only knew that kid had just recently saved the whole universe and was the most powerful being in existence; maybe he would have gotten the popcorn for free.

“What’s so funny?” Dean asked, catching up to them, after parking the car.

“Nothing…” Cas smiled and hooked his arm around Dean’s as they made their way into the covered bridge blanketed in twinkling lights.

“Aww look at those!” Jack beamed, pointing to a moving display of polar bears sliding down a snowy hill. “And those!” He added as he moved his attention to some dancing penguins.

Dean and Cas quietly walked behind Jack, happy to just watch the excitement radiate off their son. They turned the last corner, which opened into a field where giant trees were dancing to Jingle Bells.

Jack watched in awe as the lights flickered and twirled along the poles that formed the trees.

Dean watched in awe at how the colorful lights danced in both Cas and Jack's eyes.
