Spike the Fennec Fox

Summary:

Crowley likes the fennec foxes so Aziraphale gets him one.

Work Text:

Aziraphale had to leave the bookshop for a while to pick up an important book from his client. Surprisingly, when he came back he couldn't see Crowley anywhere near. He wasn't downstairs, however his jacket was hanging on the hanger. Yes, the demon had decided that he wouldn't be walking around the bookshop in his jacket. Either way, it worried Aziraphale a little so he went upstairs, still not hearing the demon.

"Crowley?" he asked.

"In the bedroom!" Crowley shouted back and the angel breathed in a sigh of relief.

Entering the room, he saw the ginger sprawled on the bed, his glasses on the bedside table as he was scrolling through his phone, looking very focused on something. Even when Aziraphale came up to him and gave him a kiss on his cheek, the demon didn't really react apart from murmuring something under his nose.

"What are you watching there, dear?" the angel asked, sitting next to Crowley, brushing his hair which immediately made the demon move on Aziraphale's lap.

He lifted his phone up so the blond could also see the screen. "What's that, angel?"

Aziraphale took a closer look and chuckled. "That is, I believe, a fennec fox, darling."

"A fox?" Crowley said with disbelief. "Foxes are ginger and they are bigger and they don't live on desserts, Aziraphale," he explained with confidence. He sat up and looked with seriousness at the angel, waiting for him to say anything.

"Well, that's a different type of a fox, Crowley," he smiled gently. "This one does live on the dessert and is blond in order not to overhear itself. Also its fur is more fluffier than the rest of the foxes."

At the mention of the fluffy fur, the angel could see a little sparkling in the demon's eyes. He looked back at the screen and subconsciously brushed a finger against the photo of the fox as if he wanted to pet it.

"Can we have one?" Crowley asked suddenly.

Aziraphale shook his head. "I'm afraid there are not such foxes in London, dear."

The demon stood up from the bed and was about to snap his fingers. "No problem, angel, I'll miracle one."

"No!" the blond stopped him making Crowley lift his eyebrow. "I don't think a fennec fox would like to actually live in our climate."

This comment made the demon a little sad since his smile faded and he just sat down on the bed, took his phone and scrolled further, admiring the photos of the animal. From time to time he grinned at the pictures which gave Aziraphale a good idea for the next day.

Crowley was annoyed. Another day he was left alone in the bookshop because Aziraphale had to run some errands. Of course, he could go out without the angel but it would be boring. He preferred his husband's company so he decided to wait for him. He sat down on the couch and did the one thing that had recently constantly had been cheering him up. Watching the fennec foxes. It was a shame that they couldn't have one as a pet. Crowley always wanted to have a pet. He was jealous of the Hellhound that the Antichrist got but had never confessed to that.

Suddenly, he heard the door hung above the door rang and he knew it was the angel who must have returned from his spontaneous trip.

"Crowley, could you come here for a second?" he shouted from the front door and the demon threw his phone on the coffee table, coming to Aziraphale. The angel was keeping his hands behind his back. He smiled widely when he saw Crowley.

"What are you hiding?" the demon asked, trying to look what was behind Aziraphale.

"Choose a hand, dear," he said, confusing Crowley who lifted his eyebrow. "Come on, Crowley."

The ginger tilted his head. "Um... left?"

The angel showed his left hand but it was empty.

"Oh..." Crowley looked down, not having expected to be tricked by the angel. "I will, um, go upstairs," he said but was quickly stopped.

"Crowley, I still have a second hand," Aziraphale said with his melodic voice.

He showed his right hand and the demon's eyes widened. The blond was holding a small, fluffy stuffed animal with big ears and a long tail. It looked like something between a dog and a fox. Crowley gently grabbed it and examined it carefully. Its 'fur's' colour would be described as sandy and the demon immediately knew he would love to pet it.

Aziraphale looked at the demon and noticed the familiar sparkling in his eyes and a smile forming on his lips.

"Do you like it, darling?" he asked softly.

Crowley looked up at the angel and nodded. "But why?"

"Well, yesterday you were quite disappointed that we can't have a real fennec fox in London so I wanted to make it up to you somehow," Aziraphale explained and blushed a little.

The demon ran in the angel's arms and hugged him tight. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" he kept saying and squeezing Aziraphale tight.

"I'm glad you like it, my dear," the blond patted the demon on his back. "I'll be back in a while, okay, love? I'll just put the books on the shelf." Aziraphale went to the bookshelves, leaving Crowley with his new friend.

The angel was humming some soft tune while he placing the books on their place. When he came back to the room, Crowley was sitting on the sofa, fiddling with the fox's tail. It took him a while when he noticed Aziraphale back with him.

"It's Spike, look!" the demon exclaimed and held the stuffed animal right in front of the angel's face. "So, so, cute, dada!" He claimed on the back of the sofa to get closer to Aziraphale and nearly fell down but the angel caught him just in time.

"Woah, easy there, buddy," the blonde chuckled and ruffled the demon's hair.

"Can we go on walk, dada? Spike wanna see park!" Tony said and made puppy eyes.

Aziraphale smiled at the boy and nodded. "Then let's show Spike the park, buddy."

Immediately after that, Tony rushed to the door and was about to get in the Bentley, still holding the fox in his hand.

"Hey, hey, hey, where are you going, Tony?" Aziraphale asked and chuckled.

"We take Bentley, dada," the boy said as it was the simplest thing in the whole wide world. "Bentley is fast."

The angel knew it wouldn't be safe to let the boy drive so he decided to show him something.

"Alright, you should start the engine then, buddy," Aziraphale said, waiting for the boy to do it.

Tony put his hand up and snapped his fingers with a proud smile. But the car didn't move even a little. It didn't make any sound which made the demon feel sad. His lower lip trembled and the angel knew he was close to crying. That's why, he quickly came to him and wrapped his arms around the boy's thin body. Soon, he felt that Tony did the same, clinging to the angel.

"Shh, it's okay, buddy, we can always take a walk, right?" he suggested softly, rubbing the demon's back.

Tony sniffed. "Why Bentley not move, dada?" he muttered in the angel's shoulder.

"Oh, Tony, because you're too little to drive a car, buddy," Aziraphale said and moved the demon so that he was looking straight at him. "But I promise you, once you're big again, you'll get me a trip, okay?" Tony sniffed once more and nodded, calmer right now.

He hugged Spike to his chest after wiping a small tear from his cheek. "We show Spike the park?"

"Of course," Aziraphale smiled genuinely and grabbed gently Tony's hand, starting walking.

It was a sunny day and for a while the angel was afraid that his demon might get too hot from the temperature but he soon realized how ridiculous that thought was and that he just got overprotective over Tony. They were walking the St. James Park and this time Aziraphale must have admitted that it felt different. His every walk there with Crowley was full of intimacy but now with Tony, he felt the boy's carefree while he was talking to the stuffed animal, showing him the immediate surrounding.

"Look, Spike!" the demon exclaimed happily pointing at the lake. "Here's where me and dada feed the um... what birds are these dada?" Tony looked at the angel.

"These are ducks, buddy," Aziraphale answered and kept an eye on the stuffed fox since it was dangerously close to fell into the water. "Be careful with Spike, okay? I don't think he likes to swim, Tony."

Suddenly, the boy immediately pulls the fox close to his chest and puts him inside the inner pocket of his jacket. "You right, dada," Tony nodded, giving a small kiss on Spike's head.

They walked to the bench they'd been sitting on for years now and decided to make a break. Tony took out the fox and was playing with it, bouncing him on his thighs. He made the fox do various flips, spins and jump and with each stunt the boy giggled. Azraphale tried to focus on the boy but he couldn't not notice the people passing them by and giving Tony looks. Fortunately, the demon didn't see anything and kept playing.

"Dada, look!" he said and threw the fox in the air, catching him seconds later.

"I don't think foxes fly, Tony," Aziraphale chuckled.

"He's a super fox!" the demon exclaimed and yawned, leaning against the angel's shoulder.

Aziraphale kisses the boy's temple. "Is my boy sleepy?" he asked and Tony shook his head. "Okay, he's definitely stubborn," the angel chuckled. "How about I miracle us back to the bookshop so you won't have to tire yourself more?"

"Plwease." Tony rubbed his eyes and hugged Spike.

The blond looked around and with a single snap both of them appeared in their living room. The boy was already lying on the couch and Aziraphale was quite surprised how did he manage to walk in his clothes being so wiggly right now. Crowley's clothes were quite tight so he would assume that Tony would be annoyed by them. However, it wasn't evening yet so the angel didn't want to change Tony in his pyjamas so he left him in his clothes since he wasn't really complaining. He grabbed the tartan blanket and threw it over the demon who was cuddling his fox.

"Sleep well, buddy, I'm right here if you need me," Aziraphale whispered before kissing the boy's forehead. He then stayed for a while, reading his book in an armchair to make sure the demon was sleeping. When he knew Tony was alright, he cleaned the bookshop a little, taking a look at the boy from time to time.

The demon woke up after an hour with a loud yawn and a very unnatural for humans stretch. He looked around and saw Aziraphale looking for something on one of the shelf.

"How long have I been sleeping for?" the ginger asked, making the angel turn around with a smile.

"Only an hour, dear," he answered, brushing the demon's hair and making him purr. "How are you feeling?"

"Rested, thank you, angel," Crowley smiled. "Remember you owe me taking you for a trip," he chuckled and Aziraphale rolled his eyes.

"You cheeky serpent."
