Work Text:
texts.
More often than not, there’s an unopened notification on Nene’s phone.
There’s rarely ever down time for her to open her messages by herself—the ever so demanding duty her line of work calls for makes catching a short break difficult.
Thus, her manager opens the important emails and texts from agents and casters, as Nene would take any opportunity to avoid a headache like that. It’s easy for Hiiro though, as she takes the green haired girl’s phone with a smile Nene can’t understand.
It never takes more than twenty minutes for her manager to finish answering all the business related inquiries. She thanks Hiiro like always, and the older girl saves the rundown of important things for the car ride home.
Despite the hard work being finished already, there’s always one more text left unopened.
She knows exactly what her manager has done—after all, it’s been months of the same routine—and Nene knows what to expect as she stares at the red bubble above the messaging app, yet her heart still beats a little faster every single time she’s done this in the past.
She’s not a high school girl anymore, Nene reminds herself as she tries to hide her reddening face from the other people in the dressing room. She really shouldn’t be all flustered from opening a text, but the sender makes it so hard for her to not get just a little shy.
With a quick press of a button, she opens the last unopened message. Trying to stop a smile from appearing on her face is a futile attempt, but Nene can’t even find it in her to be mad about it.
Tsukasa
Good luck on your play tonight 😚💚
after midnight.
There are busy nights, there are nights where she dreads staying any longer, and there are nights where Nene doesn’t get home until 2am.
Only when she unlocks the door to her apartment and steps inside does she allow herself to exhale. Today was tiring, but in a satisfying way. The cries from the audience for endless encores ring in her head, and she absolutely lives for it. A limit will be reached though, and Nene is just glad she’s home now.
“You’re home.” a voice mumbles in the darkness. Nene doesn’t flinch, as the familiar sound makes what home means to her.
The green haired girl simply takes off her slippers, and walks towards the couch where the figure is beginning to sit up from what presumably was a quick nap.
“Traffic was rough.” She blatantly lies as a small smile teases her lips.
Tsukasa snorts and pulls the girl into a short hug. Nene lightly drops her bags onto the couch next to the blond, and reciprocates the hug as best as she can. Before he lets go, she places a kiss on the top of his head.
“Alright, go shower. You stink.” Tsukasa says as he stands up and directs the girl away from the living room and towards their sleeping quarters.
This time, Nene is the one who snorts. Nonetheless, she follows Tsukasa’s direction and heads inside the bedroom to grab her pyjamas.
Her towel and soft clothes are already placed on the edge of the bed, and Nene feels a surge of pure love overwhelm her.
coffee.
“How does an iced-americano sound?” Nene asks while squinting at the cafe menu.
The other side of the receiver is so loud—bustling with people talking over people and things being put into place last minute—the green haired girl almost misses the response.
“Anything with enough shots to keep me awake for the next,” a pause, and Nene hears a paper being flipped twice, “Six hours.”
Nene couldn’t stop a chuckle from escaping her mouth, but immediately regrets it. She clears her throat as she raises her mask up her nose just a little further.
“Sounds like Rui’s got it out for you.” She responds. Again, she's thankful for the mask covering up her growing smile.
What follows is a staticy groan from her phone, “How was I supposed to know he was directing this show? Surely Rui is a common name right? I can’t believe my manager just forgot to tell me the director’s last name.”
Nene reaches the front counter, and orders two large iced-americano—all while she listens to the well-hearted complaints coming from Tsukasa.
“Tell Rui I said hi.” She hums, as she walks to the side to wait for her drinks.
“-and the catapult doesn’t even work properly!” Tsukasa finishes, taking a deep breath after talking nonstop. “Oh, yeah. Tell him yourself. I don’t want to see him again.” He grumbles childishly, and Nene has to stifle another giggle.
Maybe it’s the fact that she gets to see an old friend, or Tsukasa, or both. Either way, Nene can’t wait for her order to be finished.
quiet laziness.
Rarely are there days where neither of them are working.
There’s always more practice sessions or more show nights or more casting directors to meet. However, ‘rarely’ does not mean ‘never’.
So when Nene wakes up naturally to sunlight being poured into the room through the windows, she wishes for more moments like this.
Next to her, Tsukasa is still fast asleep. The morning glow reflecting off the blond’s hair makes the other look heavenly, and again, the girl wishes they could be still like this for longer.
Thankfully, today her wishes can be granted, as she gently throws her arm over Tsukasa’s body and presses her face into the blond’s chest. It’s warm, and familiar, and worth every bit of overtime work she’s done in the past week.
Her slight movement jostles the blond awake, but Tsukasa makes no effort to move from his position. Nene can’t see, but she can basically feel Tsukasa smile.
“Good morning.” Tsukasa mumbles, before pressing a small kiss to Nene’s forehead.
The girl responds by cuddling closer to Tsukasa. The slow pace of how the morning passes is nice, and Nene is left absorbing the moment as is.
“Do you want to do anything today?” the blond asks as he pulls Nene closer. Their legs tangle with each other, and Nene can’t think of a reply just yet.
A few seconds pass, and the girl’s bliss-filled brain finally catches up with the question she was asked.
“We can decide later.” she says, and hears a chuckle come out of Tsukasa’s mouth.
He’s more than okay with that, and she feels as if time slows down for the two of them.
backstage.
Nene paces back and forth, and back and forth, and it’s only until Tsukasa jumps in front of her does she stop.
“Nene,” the blond says, holding the girl’s face in his hands. Nene’s cheeks are gently squished together, and a small, endeared scowl appears on her face, “Calm down. You’re going to scare Emu.”
Nene sighs, and knows exactly what Tsukasa is talking about. The last thing she wants is for her nervous energy to be contagious.
“Sorry, sorry, I know.” She looks off behind Tsukasa’s shoulders, before leaning back into Tsukasa’s warm palms. “It’s just been forever since I performed on the Wonder stage,” she says, admitting her growing anxiety.
“And you’ll shine as you always do.” the blond replies reassuringly. It’s a bit hard to not believe him, as Tsukasa’s smile is as blindingly filled with love as ever.
Nene closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. When she opens them, Tsukasa is still there—his golden eyes sparkling with determination for Nene. She almost forgets that he’s literally going to be on stage with her.
“Okay.” she finally says. At this point, she can hear Emu and Rui walk out of the storage room talking amicably about how they’re going to light up the entirety of Phoenix Wonderland with Christmas lights.
“Okay.” Tsukasa responds, and Nene knows she’s more than ready for this.
When is she not when he’s around?
