Chapter 1: Hornet

Chapter Text

Bumblebee and Blurr stood shocked as they looked at their fully decorated living room with presents under a fully decorated tree. They had been so busy with work that they barely had time to decorate. But now as they stood in their doorway, their home was turned into a picturesque christmas card living room. All Blurr and Bee could do was gawk at the room around them.

“Flowers!” Hornet yelled, wiggling and pointing at a large poinsettia.

“Yes flowers,” Bumblebee said, lifting the sparkling out of Blurr’s arms and settled Hornet into his own, “let’s see if there’s anymore around here.” Blurr watched as Bee and Hornet walked into their home. He was still in shock about the decorations. He and Bee were going to decorate, but by the time they got home with Hornet, they were too tired to decorate. Out of the corner of his optic, one of the poinsettias had a tag around the base.

These flowers are poisonous, I know Hornet knows better than to bite flowers, but I just wanted to warn you. - Ultra Magnus

Blurr smiled, good old Ultra Magnus was always prepared. He was coming over on Christmas day for dinner.

“Presents!” Hornet yelled, pulling Blurr out of his thoughts. He ran to the living room, and saw the little sparkling smiling at a flower decorated tree with perfectly wrapped presents under the tree.

“I wonder who did all of this,” Bumblebee said softly, placing Hornet on the floor so the sparkling could get a closer look at the tree.

“It was Mags,” Blurr said, “he left a note on the poinsettias.”

“That was sweet,” Bumblebee said, “we need to get him something nice.”

“I know the perfect thing,” Blurr said, smiling at his mate.

Ultra Magnus sighed as he rang the doorbell to Blurr and Bumblebee’s home. The couple had told him many times that he could come in, but it never felt polite just to barge in. The old mech smiled as he heard the little pitter patter of tiny peds and loud squeals. He remembered when Blurr and Rodimus were that age. They were so cute, and Magnus smiled at the memory of tiny Blurr trying to run as fast as he could into the couch. The old mech had been able to save the first picture Blurr ever made for him. It was now framed and sitting on his desk in a special indestructible frame.

“It’s nice to see you, Ultra Magnus,” Bumblebee said as he opened the door, “come in.”

“Thank you, Bumblebee,” Ultra Magnus said, walking inside. Hornet let out a squeak and ran into the living room.

“She’s excited,” Bumblebee said, “the last present under the tree is for you.”

“You didn’t have-” Ultra Magnus said before getting cut off.

“Yes we did,” Bumblebee said, “you're family” The minibot put his servo on the back of the older mech and guided him towards the living room and the large recliner that the couple had bought specifically for Ultra Magnus when he visited. Hornet called it a nap chair, and Magnus couldn’t blame her. It was such a comfortable chair and more often than not he ended up taking a nap over at their house.

“Present!” Hornet yelled as Ultra Maguns sat in his recliner. Like she wanted him to open it before he fell asleep.

“Yes it is a present, good job!” Ultra Magnus said as Hornet toddled over, the present in her servos, almost too heavy for her to carry. Lowering his servo, the sparkling placed the gift into the larger servo. “Thank you, Hornet.” The little sparkling let out a squeak in response. Bumblebee sat on the couch adjacent to the chair, next to Blurr who looked half asleep. He must have gotten up too early, Ultra Magnus smiled. Blurr always needed a nap if he got up too early.

“Honey, Ultra Magnus is here,” Bumblebee said softly, patting Blurr’s shoulder. With a jolt the blue speedster shot up.

“I’m awake!” Blurr yelled and then looked over at the older mech, “Ihopeyouwerentwaitingtoolong!”

“I just got here,” Ultra Magnus said, “sorry for waking you.”

“No, no I wanted to see you open your gift,” Blurr said. Ultra Magnus smiled at the blue bot before turning to the wrapped gift. Carefully taking off the bows and placing them on the table next to the recliner. Carefully the old bot tore off the wrapping paper. Inside was a new planner for the coming year, a color changing light pen, and a drawing of him sleeping in the recliner, drawn by Hornet.

“This is-” Ultra Magnus started to say, but words failed him.

“we’re glad you like them,” Bumblebee said, smiling at the older mech.

“I also brought you all some gifts,” Ultra Magnus said as he pulled out a wrapped gift and an envelope. Hornet squealed in delight as the package was placed in front of her. Blurr could only tilt his helm in confusion as he was handed the envelope. Hornet squealed as she tore off the colorful paper, revealing a large book. All about earth flora and fauna.

“Flowers!” Hornet squealed, “dank you!”

“You're welcome, little one,” Ultra Magnus said. Hornet picked up the book in her little servos and pushed it towards the old mech, “I’ll read it to you in a moment, let’s see what your creators got.” Ultra magnus said with a smile, picking the sparkling and book up and placing them on the arm rest of the recliner. The little sparkling looked at her carriers with big optics, wondering what they got. Blurr smiled at his adoptive carrier and opened the envelope. Inside were four tickets to a nice resort for humans and cybertronians back on earth, as well as an itinerary for events planned during their time.

“Carrier,” Blurr said softly, “this is- we can’t- I-”

“I already filed the paperwork for the days off,” Ultra Magnus said, “you guys have been working so hard, I wanted to give you something that you can spend with your sparkling. This is from experience, but this time goes fast. I remember a time when you were this small, always running around and bumping into things. I had our whole apartment covered in foam so you didn’t hurt yourself.” Ultra Magnus smiled at the story.

“Carrier,” Blurr whined, embarrassed at the story. Bumblebee laughed under his breath, before turning asking.

“Are you coming with us? I know we would love to have you come.”

“Of course,” the older mech said, “I’m not missing Hornet’s first nature walk.”

“Flowers?” The little sparkling asked.

“Yes they’ll be flowers on the walk,” Ultra Magnus said, “lots and lots of them.” The little sparkling squealed in excitement.

“Thank you,” Bumblebee said, “this means so much- I haven’t been to Earth in so long.”

“It will be nice to go back,” Blurr said softly, leaning back into the couch, cuddling next to his mate, “nice to see the planet when we’re not at war.”
