Skyfire smiled as he and Perceptor moved boxes into the new museum of organic life. It had taken a while to convince the city council that a museum of organic life and research would be a great addition to the city, but with Starscream’s help, they were able to get it built.
“I remember having a garden during the war,” Skyfire said softly as he placed a box of tulip bulbs next to a pile of dirt. “I was a little sad to let it all go when we came back to cybertron.”
“I read your research on different soil compositions,” Perceptor said as he placed a box of seeds next to the box of tulip bulbs. “Very interesting.”
“I hope we can get some of the sparklings in here,” Skyfire said, “get them excited to learn about organic plant life.”
“I would advise plastic coverings for everyone involved,” Perceptor said as he turned to leave for more boxes, “sparklings are extremely messy. I’ve heard Prowl talk about them.”
“Don’t listen to Prowl about the sparklings,” Skyfire said, “but plastic coverings would be good for them.” Skyfire turned to follow Perceptor, until the ground shook. The two scientists looked at each other when they heard an explosion.
“Wheeljack and Starscream are in the lab,” Perceptor said, “I’m going to call Ratchet.”
“Starscream was down there…” Skyfire whispered, before he started running.
“Skyfire! Where are you going?” Perceptor yelled. The shuttle ignored him and continued running. Starscream could be hurt; Skyfire needed to find his mate. Skyfire was making his way through the crowd of mechs leaving the building.
“Skyfire,” Optimus Prime said as he grabbed Skyfire’s arm; the shuttle tried to yank it free. “You can’t go inside until the building is cleared.”
“Starscream is in there!” Skyfire yelled, getting free of Optimus’ grip. “I have to go help him!”
“Ratchet is in there with a medical team, ” Megatron said, appearing in front of Skyfire and grabbing him by the wing. “You need to get back in case the building collapses.”
“I’m not going to leave him alone!” Skyfire yelled at the former warlord. “I have to get to him!” The shuttle tried once more to push past the two mechs. Megatron growled as he grabbed Skyfire by the wing and began to pull him away from the building. Skyfire yelped, and swung out at Megatron.
“Skyfire!” Optimus yelled, “Ratchet and the medical team will bring him up.”
“Let me go!” Skyfire yelled, landing a punch on Megatron causing the silver mech to let go of him, “I have to go save him!”
“Skyfire, please!” Optimus said as he grabbed the shuttle by the shoulders and continued to pull him away from the building, “You’ll be no help to Starscream if you run in there!” Skyfire continued to fight the prime; the words fell on deaf audials. As Skyfire continued to struggle, Ratchet and a team of medics came out holding two stretchers. As Ratchet transformed into his vehicle mode, Skyfire watched helplessly as they loaded Starscream into him. The last thing Skyfire saw of his mate was his unmoving wings and offlined optics.
Starscream huffed as he laid in his and Skyfire’s berth. His bandaged wings rested on a mountain of pillows. Wheeljack had set off an explosion in the lab, a bad one. He was walking out of the lab when it happened, and the blast sent him flying into one of the blast proof walls. It wasn’t his first crash landing, but he hoped it would be the last crash landing in the lab. It could have been a lot worse, according to Ratchet. The grouchy medic had taken him and Skyfire off duty at the labs until his wings healed up. Starscream knew that he could work through the pain, and told the medic he was fine to work. Ratchet was hearing none of it, and forced him into bed rest.
“Starscream?” Skyfire asked softly as he entered the room, Snowscream in his arms.
“Carrier!” Snowscream called out, wiggling to get out of his sire’s arms and over to Starscream. The seeker smiled as Skyfire walked closer, his arms stretched out as his mate handed him his sparkling. Snowscream stopped wiggling and reached out and touched Starscream’s wing.
“Be careful,” Starscream cooed, “carrier got into a little crash. They’re still a little sore.”
“Okay,” Snowscream said as he pulled his servo back.
“We’re going to stay home for a little bit,” Skyfire said as he sat on the berth, near Starscream’s peds. “Since Carrier’s not feeling good.”
“Movie day?” Snowscream asked, the biggest grin on his face.
“Yes, we can have a movie day,” Starscream said, a soft smile on his face as Snowscream looked back at him. The sparkling giggled and tried to get off the berth. Skyfire sighed and helped his sparkling down. Once steady on his peds, Snowscream ran off. Skyfire lingered, looking at Starscream with watery optics.
“I thought we were going to lose you,” Skyfire said softly. “I was so scared when I heard the explosion.”
“Is that why you punched Megatron?” Starscream asked.
“I wasn’t thinking,” Skyfire said, looking away from his mate. Starscream wanted to laugh at how shy Skyfire had become.
“I would have done the same thing,” Starscream said, “I don’t know what I would have done if you were in the explosion. I couldn’t lose you again.”
“And I couldn’t lose you,” Skyfire said, “I don’t know what I would do if I lost you.” Skyfire moved closer to Starscream and rested his helm on the seeker’s chest. In the quiet, the two fliers stayed still as if any movement would shatter the fragile peace that they had made.
“Movie!” Snowscream yelled as he dragged a blanket and stuffed dog behind him. Starscream couldn’t help but laugh.
“We have to have dinner first,” Skyfire said.
“Why don’t you two eat dinner here?” Starscream said softly.
“Are you sure?” Skyfire asked with confusion.
“Yes!” Snowscream yelled. Starscream nodded and Skyfire smiled.
“Can you keep Carrier company while I make dinner?” Skyfire asked as he lifted Snowscream onto the berth. Snowscream nodded and Starscream patted his sparkling’s helm. “I’ll be right back.” Starscream watched as Skyfire left the room, spark finally calm after a rough day.
