Summary
The Great War claimed many victims and after three years there is finally an armistice and peace returns. Former Army Medical Assistant Mori Ougai is fascinated by the horror of war and is disappointed by the retreat, downright angry that the soldiers at the front have left the battlefield like cowardly dogs. His observation leads him to a crucial question: is it possible to alter the brain's lymbic system and create will-less, malleable puppets?
Continueing his research and looking for test subjects, he meets a suicidal boy desperately searching for a reason to live. But soon the innocent boy turns out to be his biggest challenge yet.
