Art Gallery

Summary:

The art gallery is one they’ve frequented over the past eleven years. One of the locations, along with buses and concert halls and various other museums, that quickly became a regular meeting point for them to compare notes on their respective progress in regards to the Raising and Educating of Warlock.

This time, though, things are different.

Notes:

A double drabble for the prompt "Museum or Gallery."

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The art gallery is one they’ve frequented over the past eleven years. One of the locations, along with buses and concert halls and various other museums, that quickly became a regular meeting point for them to compare notes on their respective progress in regards to the Raising and Educating of Warlock.

How many times have the two of them sat in the little cafeteria just off the main gallery, fretting over the bedtime story taste of the child they thought was the Antichrist or celebrating his unwillingness to ride a tricycle? How many times have they brainstormed curriculum as they paced the aisles, or lamented Warlock’s inextinguishable aptitude for mathematics?

This time, though, things are different. This time, there’s no Antichrist to worry about. No assignments to discuss. No Arrangement to negotiate.

Only repartee to swap, modern art to puzzle over (“It doesn’t look much like you,” Aziraphale says doubtfully, squinting at the abstract exhibition rather inexplicably titled The Serpent and the Apple), and quality time to share.

This time, they can admit, to themselves and each other and with full truth, that they are at the art gallery together for no other reason than because they want to be.
