Adventures in Love

Summary:

Logan waited so long that Roman thought he had given up. “Well then,” he said at last in a monotone. “I suppose I will just have to  get rid of this surprise.”
Roman huffed and rolled over, dragging the pillow over his head. He was not that easy to entice.
“What a pity,” Logan commented after a pause. “I calculated it would improve your mood by three hundred and forty-two percent. Ah well. It cannot be helped, I suppose.”
Roman groaned to himself and dragged himself off the bed and across the room.
“Well. Here I go. Off to dispose of the surprise I made for you. Goodbye. What a sad and unavoidable waste.”
Roman opened the door. “What surprise?”

-
Or: Roman is having a bad day. Logan has a proposal to make it better.

For crossiantgay on Tumblr! Prompt: "Logince + Adventure."

Description from Tumblr: This is canonverse. Idk what exactly the thing that upset Roman before the fic starts is, but in my head it was probably something upsetting happening to Thomas that related to Roman’s role. Like the bruised ego gag from My Negative Thinking, kind of.

Work Text:

“Roman?” Logan’s voice called as he knocked on the door.

Roman hugged his pillow closer to his tear-streaked face and didn’t answer.

“I know you’re in there,” Logan said. “Even if I hadn’t seen you slam the door behind yourself, you have been crying very loudly for some time.”

Roman bit back the retort that rose to his lips. He was wallowing, thank you very much. How dare his boyfriend try to interrupt it?

“Ah, there you are.” Logan looked greatly satisfied with himself. “I was starting to get worried, I estimated that you would not be able to hold back your curiosity for more than forty-five seconds. You lasted a whole fifty-two, very impressive.”

“You being good at math isn’t a surprise, Logan,” Roman said, wiping his eyes and tugging his sash straight.

Logan chuckled. “Perhaps not.” He leaned over and brushed Roman’s hair out of his eyes for him, smoothing it into place before Roman could reach up and do it himself. His hand lingered on Roman’s cheek. “But that is not the surprise I have for you.”

“What is it, then?” Roman asked, curious enough now to drag out the puppy dog eyes and pleading tone.

Logan smiled and tapped the tip of his nose. “You are adorable when you do that.”

“Yes, I know, that’s the point. So that you’ll give me what I want. Which is my surprise.” Roman pouted overdramatically.

“Very well.” Logan reached over and picked up something that had been leaning against the wall, which he handed to Roman.

“This… is my katana?” Roman said after a moment of confused staring.

“Yes.” Logan took a breath and straightened his shoulders. “I would like to extend to you the invitation to take me on an adventure in the Imagination.”

Roman blinked. He played back Logan’s words to himself to make sure he hadn’t misunderstood. “Really?”

“Yes, Roman. Really.”

“…You don’t like those,” Roman said, mind fumbling.

“But you do. And you are important to me,” Logan said.

“Oh,” Roman said, feeling abruptly like crying again. He fought with the lump in his throat for a moment. “That’s—that’s really, really sweet, Lo.”

“I want you to be happy,” Logan said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “I do not like it when things upset you like this.”

Roman immediately lost the battle with his tears, and they spilled anew down his cheeks, albeit this time for a far more pleasant reason than his breakdown of a few minutes ago.

“Oh—” Logan reached for him, concern flaring across his features. “Oh, dear—”

Roman dropped the katana and tipped forward into Logan’s arms, hugging him tightly around his ribs and burying his face in his neck. “I love you,” he choked out. “So much.”

“Oh,” Logan said, sounding relieved, as he stroked Roman’s hair with one hand and rubbed soothing circles on his back with the other. “Good. I love you very much as well.” He pressed a kiss to the top of Roman’s head. “I take it you like the adventure idea, then?”

Roman nodded into his neck, sniffling, but his tears were starting to dry up already as possibilities swirled through his head. “Can we have costumes?”

“Yes. Whatever you’d like.”

Yes,” Roman cheered under his breath. “Magic?”

“If it will heighten your enjoyment of the outing, yes.”

“Can we fight a dragon?”

“I had assumed that would be a given,” Logan said with a chuckle. He hooked a finger under Roman’s chin and lifted his face, reaching to wipe away the remnants of his tears. “Are you ready, or do you need more time?”

Roman straightened his shoulders. “I just need to do one thing first.”

“What’s that?” Logan asked.

Roman grinned and leaned in. He was rewarded with surprise, then comprehension, then delight flashing across Logan’s face before his eyes fell closed. Roman kissed his boyfriend, right smack on the mouth, warm and tender and delicious as Logan kissed back.

“That,” Roman said as they parted, knowing full well that he was wearing a smug grin and having no intention to change it. “Now I’m ready.” He picked up his katana from the floor.

“Hm, acceptable,” Logan said, but he was smiling and his cheeks were flushed light pink and his eyes kept flitting back to Roman’s lips, so Roman leaned back in and kissed him one more time for good measure.

“Adventure?” he asked, double checking that Logan was ready too.

Logan nodded, taking Roman’s hand and letting Roman tug him towards the door to the Imagination. “Adventure.”
