Notes:

Prompt: Ok but you just mentioned Eskel, and I am a sucker for Aro Eskel with his best friend Triss pining away over Yennefer, pretty please <3

Work Text:

Eskel had just set foot in the main dining room when he saw Triss sitting in the corner, her eyes locked on an oblivious Yennefer, who was conversing with Vesemir. Triss was fiddling with the hem of her sleeve and biting her lip. She looked like she was deep in thought.

Eskel and Triss had been friends for a long time, and they talked about most things, sharing their innermost secrets. Eskel knew that Triss admired the raven haired sorceress, and had been secretly pining away after her for the longest time, but he wasn’t sure what had caused this latest worry. He sat down beside her and asked what the problem was.

She sighed, before putting her head in her hands. “She likes gruff stoic men, full of muscle. What would she see in me anyway?”

“Now none of that if you please. You know things didn’t work out between Yen and my brother, and I think they’re both happier apart. Besides, you are an awesome healer, you are so gentle and caring. You have the kindest heart. You’re her friend, so she already likes you. What could go wrong?”

“Oh? Everything!”

“Just talk to her.”

“No! I couldn’t!”

“Fine, then I’ll talk to her.” Eskel started to get up slowly, when Triss shot her hand out, clutching at his arm.

“No! You can’t”

“Why not? Surely it’s better than you sitting here yearning for her love. At least that way you’ll know where you stand with her.”

“Eskel, what if it ruins our friendship? I don’t think I could bear to lose that. She means everything to me, and I don’t want to make things awkward between us.”

“Okay, but what if she feels the same way too? You could at least give her that chance?”

“You make it sound so simple.”

“I guess, for me it is. You clearly like her, and she is your friend. If she doesn’t feel the same way, then she’ll let you know, and knowing you, you’ll respect her answer. Remember when you asked me out? I explained to you that I am aro and don’t feel the same way, and you were really nice about it. We’re still friends right?”

“Of course we are! You were the perfect gentleman to me back then, even explaining what aro meant when I asked you. You made me feel like I wasn't a complete idiot for trying to hit on someone who wasn’t interested in dating at all. I can’t believe I didn’t even notice before then. I thought maybe you were lonely, but I see now that you are happy as you are. I love being your friend.”

“Good, I’m glad to hear it. You were the first person I actually told about it. I was so worried how others would react, especially my brothers. You were so kind, and helped me see that I’m not some freak for not wanting a relationship in that way. And for what it’s worth, it was very flattering to be asked out by you. I think you’re quite the catch, and Yen or anyone else would be lucky to have you as their partner in life.”

“Eskel darling, you’re so sweet.”

“Yes, well, enough of that. Go over to her already, or I really will!”

“Fine, fine. I’m going. How do I look?”

“Very pretty, as you’re well aware. Now go!”
