Summary:

Clementine’s mental health was improving, but her progress is tainted by bullies and her father, who tries to reach out to her.

Plus, she couldn’t help but compare herself to every girl that she passed on the street.

They were everything she wanted to be but never would.

She’d rather be anyone else.

Chapter 1: I'm gonna miss it when it's over

Chapter Text

Summer was over.

No more sun kissed days or weeks just spent enjoying the fresh breeze.

Back to school advertisements for notebooks, backpacks, clothes, and whatever else you could possibly think of were plastered everywhere.

Clementine ran past each one, ignoring them, not wanting any reminders of tomorrow.

Tomorrow was the first day of school, and despite her desperate pleads to Wilbur for her to be homeschooled, he stood his ground and insisted she continued attending.

Ranboo had assured her he’d stay by her side, which was comforting as no one would mess with Ranboo. He was the tallest kid in school.

But that wasn’t it.

Clementine wouldn’t be able to take the stares of people as she walked down the hallway. People muttering to their friends behind locker doors.

Plus, legally her name was still Tommy. The request for a name change was slow and tedious, and the last thing Clementine needed was to be deadnamed and misgendered.

Besides that, life was going pretty well. She was seventeen now, practically an adult! Driving lessons were on the horizon (Wilbur had joked that if he wanted a free ticket to heaven he'd ride with her, with which she had responded with "bold of you to say you'll go to heaven." In an completely unrelated situation, Clementine got ice cream in her face.)

She firmly placed her hand on the doorknob and gave it a push. She was greeted by Techno, who was sitting lesiurely on the couch with a cup of coffee reading.... Sun Tzu's The Art of War? The fuck?

"Hey Tech." She said, toeing of her sandals. He grunted in response.

"Where's Wilbur?"

"He's with Sally." Techno answered, sipping from his mug.

"Ah." She bit her lip, her gaze turning to the ground.

Now, Clementine loved Sally and looked up to her like a sister, but she felt a slight twinge of jealousy. Sally had been taking up a lot of Wilbur's time, and the past month Clem hadn't spent as much time with her brother as she wanted too. She also suspected that they had a secret of some sort, Wilbur always seemed to be smiling at himself a lot now and being a bit more....protective of Sally? Clementine had wracked her brain for a possible explanation but none had occurred to her.

Techno raised his eyebrows.

"You're very expressive, you know that?"

Clementine gave her brother the middle finger as she walked upstairs to her room. Closing the door behind her, she seated herself on her chair that had wheels. She gave it a spin before halting it's movement and moving closer to her PC.

Opening discord, she messaged Tubbo.

I AM BIG WOMAN

Tubbo

TUBBO!

[Tubbo_ started a call]

Clementine ran her fingers through her hair, which now was reaching right below her shoulders.

"Tubs!"

Tubbo grinned.

"Hey Clem! How are you feeling about school tomorrow?"

"POGGERS! I will dominate every class."

Tubbo looked down at Clementine's hand, with which she was fiddling with the wristband that Tubbo gave her.

"Liar."

Clementine stared down at her red wristband.

"Ah fuck." I really need to stop doing that.

"It's okay to be nervous, you know."

"I don't get nervous, Tubs."

Tubbo rolled his eyes.

"Whatever. Do you have an outfit picked out?"

Clementine nodded pointing at the clothes hanging on her door knob.

"A white shirt and red dress, keeping up my brand."

"You're STILL gonna wear that baseball tee?"

"It's my entire brand, Tubs. Of course."

"Have you talked to the school about your transition and name change?"

"Wilbur did."

"Well than, you shouldn't have too much to worry about."

Clementine didn't mention that Sally and Wilbur were leaving for college tonight, which was quite a detriment to her last night of summer break.

"Hey, is something bothering you?"

"No." she made sure to not fiddle with her wristband this time. She snickered when she saw Tubbo's eyes immediately dart to her wrist and then scrunch up in disappointment.

"Clem."

Clementine looked up to see Tubbo staring at her expectantly.

She heaved a sigh before beginning.

"It's just- Wilbur and Sally are leaving tonight for college and I didn't spend as much time with Wilbur as I wished."

"Newsflash! Clementine admits to being clingy!" Tubbo said in a reporter like manner.

"SHUT UP!"

"Wilbur's gonna facetime you multiple times a day, isn't he? Visiting on the weekends too!"

"It's not the same. You know that."

Tubbo smiled sadly.

"Well, there's not much else to do. I'm sure you'll be fine."

Tubbo caught a glance at his clock.

"Ah, we should probably go to bed now. Both got school tomorrow."

"Oh. Night-"

"Night!"

[Tubbo_  ended the call]

Clementine slid her chair away from her desk, resting her arms behind her head.

"CLEM!"

She groaned.

"YES?"

"COME SAY BYE TO WILBUR AND SALLY!" Oh shit!

She sprung up, running down the stairs.

Wilbur opened his arms, Clementine crushing into them for a hug.

She heard Sally giggle and pat her head.

"Bye, Clem. Call everyday?"

"Yes."

As Sally loaded her luggage into the car, Techno and Wilbur went up to Clem.

"Remember, call me whenever you feel bad. Mmkay? Don't miss your therapy appointments, remember to take your meds-"

Clementine laughed, taking Wilbur's moving hands and holding them still.

"I'll be fine, Wilby."

"Did you just call me Wilby?"

Clementine turned red.

"No! NO I DIDN'T!"

"You haven't called me that since you turned nine!"

"SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP-"

As Clementine waved them away as they drove off, she felt Techno's firm hand on your shoulder.

"You should go to bed. School's tomorrow."

Clementine nodded, giving one last wistful look to the car driving away in the distance.

"Yeah. I will. Just...give me a sec."

Techno nodded and entered the house, leaving the door open a creak.

Clementine breathed in the fresh summer air that lingered of freedom one last time before following Techno.

She brushed her teeth, said good night, and then launched herself into bed, not bothering to change into pajamas.

She took one last deep sigh.

She'd be fine.

She didn't realize just how wrong that statement would be.

Chapter Text

RING! RING!

Clementine blinked, the filtered sunlight shining through her curtains resting on her eyes. She groaned, turning over.

Wait. Today was the first day of school.

Groaning, she turned to look at the time.

7:30 AM was what the clock said.

She sighed, annoyance evident in her tone.

School mornings sucked ass.

She stretched, the alarm continuing to blare before she furiously grabbed her phone and pressed stop.

She rubbed her eyes as she tried to make it to the bathroom, accidentally running into a wall.

Clementine washed her face, turning to gaze up at her reflection.

Her transition's effects were more apparent now, her rough edges softening into round circles. But she still felt the urge to hide her face so no one would mistake her for a boy.

When she finished, she returned to her bedroom and got dressed. As she slid the skirt over her legs and looked at herself in the mirror, she felt a warm feeling swarm in her chest.

BEEP!

Clementine turned to pick her phone up on her desk, swinging her backpack over her shoulder in the process.

Niki

Clem, Ranboo has a bad headache coming so he won't be coming.

Sorry :(

Clementine's eyes widened before she began typing an answer.

aw

tell him to drink water

Shaking her head, she slid her phone into her pocket (a skirt with pockets was the best), and trudged down the stairs.

On a plate was a peanut butter and nutella sandwich and a glass of milk beside a note.

She sat herself before reading it.

Ran out of cheese and cereal. went to get some

- Techno

She hummed, looking out the window to see birds flying north.

As she took the last bite of her breakfast and brushed her teeth, she tied her shoes on and locked the door behind her, beginning her stroll towards school.

When she arrived, Clementine felt people stares even as she walked past them. She swore she could hear her heart beating as she opened her locker, grabbing a few notebooks and scuffling to class.

It went smoothly, no mishaps. She heard some muttering behind her from a group of girls, which she was internally freaking out over, but other then that she was fine.

Lunch came around, and Clementine tried to swallow down the familiarity of being the sole person sitting alone.

The day was monotonous, she didn’t know why she expected something to happen to her.

Tubbo was right. She would be fine.

Feeling the need to go to the bathroom, she stood up to go. Just before her hands could grasp the doorknob to the girls bathroom, someone interrupted her.

"Don’t think you belong there."

Clementine froze, her fears and insecurites sprouting up again.

“The girls think you’re a new kid. I know you’re not. Your locker? That was Tommy’s locker. You’re just a boy with long hair wearing girl clothes.”

Clementine fought the urge to turn around and punt whoever this kid. Who did he think he was?

As long as he didn’t lay a hand on her, she wouldn’t do anything.

She continued opening the door, ignoring the boy’s mocking gasp and slamming it shut behind her.

She stomped her way too the bathroom. After leaving the stall and washing her hands, she gazed up at her reflection.

Boy.

The boy’s words echoed in her mind.

You’re just a boy with long hair wearing girl clothes.

A tear rolled down her face. She rubbed it off furiously, angry at herself for crying and feeling superfluous for crying over something she felt was so little. But then the sound of another bathroom stall opening rung through the air.

A girl with curly brown hair approached the sink beside Clem.

The girl quickly glimpsed at Clementine, who was still frantically sniffling and rubbing her eyes, trying to look normal so no one would notice her red eyes from crying.

"Bullies?”

Surprised, Clementine looked at the brunette girl. She was holding out a tissue in her hand.

Clementine took it, nodding before blowing her nose.

The girl sighed empathetically and turned to her reflection.

"Act confident and ignore them. If they become a huge bother, talk about it with your family.  They’re just idiots with nothing better to do. I’m Hannah, by the way.”

The girl outstretched her hand. Clem shook it.

"Anyway, lunch period is finishing up. We should get out of here.”

Clementine followed after Hannah. When she arrived at her locker, she could see out of the corner of her eye the boy who had insulted her earlier. She made a quiet promise to avoid and ignore him. She made her way to her final classes, and when the final period finished, out of habit stopped outside of Miss. Puffy’s office. After a minute, she snickered, remembering she didn’t need too anymore before turning around to the exit only to see-

Quackity?

He was staring at her as if he’d seen a ghost.

Wait- she hadn’t seen him since th night before- the incident. She ran up to him, surprising him.

"Big Q!”

"It’s- it’s you! You...you look different.” He gulped, observing her carefully as if he took his eyes off of her she'd disappear.

Clementine smiled, looking down at her feet.

"I’m. Uh. Trans. Trans Girl.”

Quackity paused, looking over her as he processed the new information.

"Wait- does that mean you’re gay?”

This time, Clementine paused.

"Holy shit. I am.”

Quackity laughed, and they both fell into comfortable conversation.

Quackity didn’t ask any invasive questions, but Clem could tell he was itching to knowwhat had happened that night.

Not now and not here.

"Hey Quackity!” a voice perked up from someone coming down the hallway.

Clem turned.

"Hannah?” she said in disbelief.

"Girl in the bathroom!”

Quackity looked back and forth between the two.

"You know each other?”

"I would say the same thing!”

Clem interrupted.

"Quackity was my tutor last year and I met Hannah in the bathroom today. How do you two know each other?”

"We’re siblings.” answered Hannah, resting her arm on Quackity's shoulder. He rolled his eyes.

"Adopted.”

Clem giggled.

"It’s a small world!”

And just like that, Clem’s semi bad day improved into a decent one.

Chapter 3: THIS ISN'T AN UPDATE I'M SO SORRY PLS DON'T KILL ME

Chapter Text

hey hey sorry for coming back after a month and not updating. Excuse? My grandparents came over from the US as a surprise, my aunt caught covid, my new baby sister (it’s so weird to be over a decade older I’m like her mom) and SCHOOL. God school is such a pain in the ass.

um. going to be honest here i have lost all inspiration for this fic and just physically cannot write for this fic anymore as i've sort of lost interest in dsmp.... so i am giving you readers two options :)

Option 1: I leave the fic as it is

Option 2: i get someone else to finish this fic with the outline

here's the poll

If you're a writer and interested in writing this fic for me, my discord is 𝚜𝚝𝚊𝚛 𝚘𝚏 𝚗𝚘𝚋𝚒𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚢#7852 :)

I'm currently REALLY into spiderman and working on three fanfics for it (plus one more dsmp fanfic that i believe is my magnum opus) so stick around for that maybe!!!

Chapter 4: NOT CHAPTER! Pls read still <3

Notes:

TW su*c*de mention.

Chapter Text

 Hi everyone!

I know you all voted for someone else to write this fic, but I’ve decided that it’s better for me to cancel the sequel. I’ve tried to come out with an outline for those who HAVE offered to write for me, but my brain has come up with zero ideas and I’ve finally come to accept that my brain has just simply let go of this AU and has said all it needs too.

Thank you to everyone who read, commented, bookmarked, and gave kudos to this is me trying. You guys gave me my first real hit fic. I’ve since moved on from the dsmp fandom, but you all have a special place in my heart. <3

If any of you have watched Heartstopper or Stranger Things, I have fics in progress for those RN!

I have a fic that’s a what if situation, like what if Clementine had succeeded in her suicide attempt.

I will leave this work up. Once again, love you all and will remember you as I move on to new prospects.
