Under My Umbrella

Summary:

After getting off on the wrong foot, Adrien wants to apologise to his new classmate, Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

Notes:

This is kinda shit, so I'm sorry. Anyway, this is also cross-posted on Wattpad, username: Rainbowology.

Work Text:

The rain poured down. Students filed out of the school clutching umbrellas, huddled together to protect themselves from the rain. No one was walking Marinette Dupain-Cheng's way, she couldn't share an umbrella with anyone. She stood at the school entrance clutching her school bag staring out at the rain, while the last of the students wandered out of the school. She supposed she could wait until the rain stopped. Maybe she should call her parents to tell them that she might take a bit longer? Is the library still open?

"Hey," Marinette spun around to see Adrien Agreste standing just behind her holding a black umbrella that probably cost more than her whole outfit plus her bed, "Marinette, right?"

She nodded but didn't say anything. He was a rich brat, just like Chloé. He was undeserving of her politeness. She stared pointedly into the distance, out at the rain and cars shooting by. She noticed Adrien's car parked right in front of the school steps.

"I'm sorry about earlier." Adrien started, looking out at the cars too, "This is the first time I've ever been to a real school before, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Believe me when I say this, I really was trying to get that gum off your seat. Chloé's been my best friend since we were kids, and I love her, but she can be a bit much sometimes."

He laughs a little. Marinette stays silent. Chloé? A bit much? Hah.

"Anyway, I just wanted to apologise,"

He walked forward, into the rain and towards his car. He stopped and looked back. The light from the car headlights reflected in her blue eyes, making them almost glow.

"Do... Do you need an umbrella?" He asked.

Marinette stared at him as if he grew three extra heads. She couldn't understand why someone who was willingly friends with Chloé was talking to her so nicely.

"Um, no... no, I'm fine, thanks," She muttered, looking down at the ground.

"Are you sure? It's raining pretty heavily, it's probably not going to ease up for a few hours." Adrien said, looking concerned, "Take it as my apology gift,"

He flashed her a model smile. Marinette couldn't help but smile a little back. Maybe he wasn't that bad.

Adrien held out his umbrella to the girl in front of him. She smiled and reached out her hand. Her smile was breathtaking. Their hands touched as she took the umbrella and a thunderclap was heard. They looked at each other and laughed. Adrien didn't know why, but they laughed.

"Thank you, Adrien," Marinette smiled. His heart skipped a beat.

"No problem," He replied, "See you tomorrow?"

She nodded.

"Take care,"

"You too,"

That night, Adrien lay awake while Plagg, his new 'kwami', whizzed around his head. He lay awake partially due to the fact Plagg was flying around and partially because a certain raven-haired classmate of his was stuck in his mind. Her eyes, her smile. He was glad he had made a friend today, no, two friends, and he was glad he had met Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
