Chapter Text

“Mr. Bonnet,” the man in question, your boss, jumped at your sudden presence. You’d worked for the Bonnet’s for years now and could see the couple's obvious lack of interest in one another. It seemed obvious that the man would take his leave this evening. Especially after how horribly received his gift was, “could I come with you?”

“You’re sure?” Mr. Bonnet stuttered, seemingly at a loss for words.

“Yeah,” you cleared your throat awkwardly, trying to keep your volume down, so as to not wake up the other members of the house. If you were being honest, you had been thinking of running away for months now. It's not that you didn’t enjoy working for the Bonnet’s. All things considered, Mr. and Mrs. Bonnet treated you like family and you loved looking after the children. “I just want more freedom and adventure from life.”

“I had no idea you felt that way,” Mr. Bonnet frowned and you shrug.

“Yes well,” you fiddled nervously with the strap of your leather bag, “It’s not exactly ladylike to want to run off, cut your hair and live as a pirate.”

“For the record,” Mr. Bonnet placed a hand on your head and ruffled your hair, “I think you’ll make a lovely pirate.”

And so, months later, that's how you found yourself on the crew of the Revenge. Your former boss turned captain had assembled a crew of what could only be described as misfits. You cut off your long hair and had abandoned the frilly skirts for loose pants. Honestly, you had never felt more like yourself. Though pirating was a sharp learning curve, the soft spoken Oluwande and mute Jim both took it upon themselves to teach you the basics. In turn, the three of you shared a room so that you could teach both Olu and Jim what little sign language you knew. If either Jim or Olu were suspicious of your background or of your definitely not masculine voice, they never said a thing.
