Tick, Tick, Boom

Summary:

Eda always had a plan.

OR:

Luz’s thoughts as she’s carted towards the end.

Notes:

“The sound you are hearing is not a technical problem. It is not a musical cue. It is not a joke. It is the sound of one man’s mounting anxiety.”

– Jonathan Larson

Work Text:

Eda always had a plan.

Sure, she’d showboat about it. She’d wait until hope was lost and everyone was desperate for a solution, but she’d pull a smug little smirk and save the day. She always did.

But the longer she spent in the back of the cramped carriage, the more Luz realized that she already knew how this story was going to end.

Eda would be petrified, no doubt. Knowing Belos, he’d make Raine be the one to do it. He’d release the Collector, and then… Luz wasn’t really sure what came after ‘and then’, but she knew it’d end with screaming. And that would be the last she’d see of the Isles.

Goodbye, Hexside. Goodbye, Owl House.

Goodbye Eda, Hooty, King, Lillith.

Goodbye, Gus. Goodbye Willow.

Goodbye, bata

(Amity screaming.)

No.

(Amity crumpling as the life fades from her eyes.)

No.

(Amity never seeing the human realm, never reading the next Azura, never getting to hold Amity’s hand or hear her laugh again, no more dates, no more quiet nights beneath the stars, no “Hola batata”s, or “Te quiero”s.

She’d never hear Amity say “Hago”.)

A growl rises from the pit of Luz’s chest and escapes from her throat. Her rage festers like a fire that creeps in from the back of her skull, creeping through her bones until all she feels is the heat.

The carriage stops with a slight jolt, and the door unlocks with a gentle click. Light spills into the enclosed space.

It’s her cue.

She kicks open the door, screaming her head off, letting whoever is on the other side know one thing, one thing alone:

This is my home, too.
