Chapter Text
When trying to create a vaccine for a dangerous coming virus the scientist made a mistake and somehow they gave all their 50 testers “superpowers” (that they divided between mind, elements and physical) and, within the years, these people started trying to have a normal life, their kids reproducing and mutating their powers with them.
Now, the world is significantly different. We all know that a great power comes with a great responsibility and random people are not ready for that, especially if nearly half the population has them, being the majority who still do not.
There were good people, the ones that wanted to go on with their lifes like normal or even use their abilities for helping others.
And there were people that were not.
They weren’t good and they weren’t willing to help others, that only wanted to show they were better, have an easier life, and no one could tell them otherwise, even if they tried.
That’s why the world was a little bit more divided, controlled by superheroes offices instead of policies, politics shared with non-supers to an equal representation and comfort for the people.
The countries were divided into new districts of more manageable sizes and each one has its own superhero headquarters, all following the same laws agreed worldwide, ready to stop those who think they deserve more for having something that others do not, giving equity in the population.
And even if all the politics were working well, not corrupted and surprisingly working, heroes still have hard times. But that's the cool about it, isn't it?
Or at least that's what Tommy thinks. I mean, you can literally punch someone and people will come from everywhere to thank you.
And he learned all that he could about them.
Because Tommy wants to be a hero, just like any coherent person who possesses powers. His parents instilled that thought in him as a child.
Perhaps they preferred to stay out of danger, but they raised him with the mentality that the only way to assert his power, as a person or as a super, was to use it for good.
Dominance existed even before powers, slavery was present for many years in history, even before the society he knew today, but superheroes with powers that can make someone else's life a little better? That was something new, original in this world, and, like every novelty that a child discovers, it was cool, pog, if you may.
And he grew up wanting to be one.
He even managed to get a job in the super’s agency in his district, like, how many people can say that they managed to get this far? Very little, that's for sure, that's why there are so many vigilantes who, no matter how helpful they are, are dangerous because they think they're judges of the fate of others and that's why they're treated as villains.
But they don't matter, because Tommy is cooler than them! And Tommy sees them being stopped by his superiors from time to time and, god, Tommy can't wait to be as amazing as his superiors, to be sent on real missions where he can actually feel the thrill of being a superhero.
