Chapter Text
“Your power sucks, Clyde.” Light blue eyes glared at him as the dark haired boy slapped his arm to scare off a mosquito.
“It's not actually my fault!” Clyde pouted, “This is all just make believe! I can’t control bugs!”
“Toolshed’s right, what kind of power is controlling bugs?” Hateful eyes joined the blue as a pudgy boy sneered at Clyde.
“Better than being a fucking furry, fatboy.”
Clyde turned to his defender with a small smile as thanks, but the hooded boy wasn't looking at him. Clyde’s smile fell as Mysterion glared at all three of them, an air of disappointment around him.
“We aren't any closer to finding Professor Chaos, and listening to you guys bitch and whine is getting annoying.” He said in his fake gravely deep voice.
“Is the stick up your ass a part of your costume, Kinny?” The hateful boy turned on their friend with a vile smirk, eyes alight with joyous anger.
Mysterion ignored him as he reassigned roles.
“Clyde- I mean Mosquito- you'll come with me to check the east side of town by Tweek’s Coffee. You two,” he paused to glare at the two boys beside Clyde, “will check the west by Starks Pond. If you see anything text immediately.”
Toolshed nodded with repressed annoyance at his new partner, and the two ran off.
Clyde opened his mouth to thank Kenny, or at least apologize for the trouble, but he was cut off by Mysterion’s curt directions to head to the shop.
He nodded silently, walking away from the front of Cartman’s house with Kenny following, completely oblivious to the blonde watching from the window of the neighboring house.
—-
“I haven't seen anything, sorry,” Their twitchy friend gave them a helpless shrug, handing Clyde his order, a chocolate chip cookie. “I doubt Chaos would just stroll through here anyways.”
Mysterion nodded silently, then let his superhero persona fall along with his hood to grin at his friend. “How have you been, Tweek? I haven't seen you in forever.”
Tweek gave a small smile back, and a pang of- something- hit Clyde hard in the chest. Clyde only ever saw Mysterion, not this friendly, charming, slightly handsome Kenny. He seldom saw his smile directed at him, or even heard him laugh. Clyde really wanted to be closer friends with him, but getting time alone was rare, and when they did it was just awkward.
Like now, where Kenny was teasing his friend and knocking things over, while Clyde nervously stood there, unsure what he should be doing.
Tweek noticed, and in his very sweet and gentle way, told them kindly to get the fuck out of the shop. He gave Clyde a smile as they left, and he returned it gratefully.
“I, uh, got this for both of us.” Clyde held out the cookie for Kenny to take, who gave him a surprised look before breaking out into a broken grin, and Clyde’s heart maybe started beating faster, blushing lightly.
“Thanks, dude.” Kenny broke the cookie in half before handing Clyde the slightly bigger piece.
If food was the solution to making Kenny smile like that at him, Clyde was prepared to take him to any food place in the world- but not in a date sense, of course, Clyde was not interested in Kenny like that at all. Yeah. He wasn’t, like, gay or anything. He just really wanted to be a closer friend to Kenny. Clyde’s reassuring thoughts led him to wondering what kind of food Kenny really liked, which he asked a moment later.
“So are you a fan of cookies?” Clyde inwardly cringed at what a weird sounding question that must have been, but looked at Kenny for an answer regardless.
“Yep. Actually, call me basic but chocolate chip is the best kind of cookie there is.” Kenny replied, eating his treat like Clyde would snatch it from him at any given moment.
Clyde felt a burst of pride for unknowingly getting it right first try, grinning and taking a large bite from his snack.
“Next time I'll get you the largest chocolate chip cookie all for yourself,” he paused, reconsidering, “maybe two, one for Karen.”
Clyde had met Karen a few weeks prior, when she was running around in the snow without a jacket, and he had given her his after scolding her.
Kenny had fallen silent and was just looking at Clyde with genuine surprise as a soft smile grew on his face.
“It was you. The jacket.”
“Oh! Uhm… yeah, it was.” Clyde scratched the back of his head in embarrassment.
“I can give it back later.” Kenny said, fidgeting with his hood, as if to debate whether to put it on yet.
“Oh! No need! She can totally keep it, no worries.” Clyde said, looking away and waving his hand in a vague gesture of uncaring.
“Thank you.”
Clyde’s eyes immediately snapped back to stare at his friend, who's genuinely vulnerable tone had shocked him for a moment before he gave Kenny a light hearted smile.
“No problem, what are friends for?”
Kenny lifted his hood over his head, expression dropping to his usual slightly angry look.
“Let’s head to the U-STOR-IT and have a look around.” Mysterion suggested in his rough deep voice.
“Yeah…sure.” Clyde felt slightly sad at the change of personality, wishing again to see Kenny’s bright smile.
