Steve sighed tiredly, staring at the building where the Hellfire Club meeting was supposed to be ending that night. He looked at his watch and confirmed that he had arrived at the right time to pick up the kids. The kids and Eddie, of course.
He couldn't hold back a smile when he remembered that the metalhead was finally his boyfriend, after weeks of long glances and a super scary sexuality crisis on his part. And let's not forget that they had to go through this while trying to prove Eddie’s innocence and helping him back to living a kinda of normal life after knowing the upside down world. This second part being Steve's specialty. Those were hard times, but now Steve was finally ok with being bi, and Eddie was sleeping like a champ, only having nightmares some days a week. But hey, at least they’re together.
In the end, it was worth it. Although they were extremely different, Eddie completed him in a way no one did before. Finally his search for his special someone was over, even if that someone was totally different from what he never imagined. Yes, Steve was happy.
Steve got up from leaning on the side of his car when he saw the lights going out and heard Dustin's voice, always the loudest one, in what seemed to be an extremely important discussion with Mike. Lucas walked right behind them, just shaking his head, defeated. Steve searched for his boyfriend, and found him locking the door of the building, and as soon as he was done, running to catch up with the younger boys.
The four eventually arrived in the car at the same time. They stopped arguing for one second, just to say hi to Steve and get in the car. Steve rolled his eyes, but soon felt something in his hand. He saw that Eddie was discreetly holding his finger while holding his backpack with his other hand.
“Hi" he said smiling at Steve
“Hi" Steve replied, unable to hold his smile too, and quietly held his boyfriend's hand.
"Hey" they heard Lucas calling them and let go of their hands immediately. The boys already knew about them, but it was an unconscious reflex. “When you finish being all in love in there, can you get in the car? I don't know how long I can handle them arguing.”
Eddie moved away from Steve, blushing, and opened the passenger door “I've dealt with them all night, it's your turn, Harrington”
“I've been dealing with them for years, now that they have another dad, I'm officially on vacation, Munson” Steve replied, finally starting the car so they could go home.
Dustin leaned forward and put his head between the two car seats "Eddie, tell this loser that the sword I used today doesn't use magic points!"
“Yes it does, you enchanted it, I remember!"
"So, had fun today, kids?" Steve asked, trying to end the discussion.
“We are not children!" The three shouted at the same time, which made Eddie laugh and Steve roll his eyes even harder.
“Eddie, for God's sake, use your DM power and end this discussion!" Now it was Lucas's head that appeared between the seats.
"DM?" Steve asked, confused.
“Dungeon Master? How can you date one of the best DM that ever existed and don't know what that means?" Dustin asked, angry.
Eddie rolled his eyes, and looked at the boys in the back seat. "First of all ... one of the best? THE best that ever existed and ever will exist, thank you very much." The boys whispered 'always modest' to each other, but Eddie didn't even notice. “Secondly” he looked at Steve and then back at the three “I understand this is not part of Steve's world, he has no obligation to know, okay?”
"Okay" the three kids agreed.
The car was silent finally, only the cassette songs that Eddie insisted on leaving in the car’s radio ("you need to improve your musical knowledge, babe") playing softly in the background. Steve realized that Eddie was still smiling, but it wasn't the same intensity as before. He seemed almost… upset.
The peace and quiet was over quickly.
“I just think Steve could try a little harder to know your world too.” Dustin spoke, crossing his arms.
"Henderson ..." Eddie started, but felt Steve's hand on his leg.
"No, he's right." Steve said.
"Is he?" Eddie, Lucas and Mike spoke at the same time, while Dustin said "Am I?"
Steve continued with his hand on Eddie's leg, gently caressing it with a finger "I know how important this is to you, Eddie" he looked quickly at his boyfriend, winked at him and looked back at the road "I'm going to make an effort to get more interested in this game of yours."
Eddie holded hand on his leg "Steve, there's no need, it's okay"
Steve took Eddie's hand to his mouth, kissing it and hearing a “so cute” from one of the boys. "Yes, I want to know more about your world"
Now, it was Mike's head to appear between the seats "So if Eddie invites you, would you play D&D with us?"
"Yeah, I think I would" Steve replied, honestly.
The other four occupants of the car were absolutely silent for what felt like minutes, than they started screaming like crazy.
“I said he would say yes! I knew it!!" Dustin shouted, hugging the other two by his side.
"It's amazing how weak Steve is when Eddie is around." Lucas laughed, which made Dustin say "Look who's talking", and an “ouch” after getting punched in the shoulder.
“What can I say? I'm irresistible." Eddie flipped his hair over his shoulder and gave Steve a wink.
Steve took advantage of the fact that they were already in front of Dustin's house and stopped the car abruptly, making the passengers hold back so they didn't hit their heads.
He dropped Eddie's hand, who pulled it back quickly, and turned his head to everyone. "Did you all team up against me?" He said, pointing his finger at each one, one at a time.
"We just wanted what's good for you! We're sure you will love to play with us!" Mike said, shielding himself behind Dustin.
“We knew the only way you would accept it was using Eddie, and he agreed to help us!" Lucas continued, pointing to Eddie, who was whistling and looking out the window, pretending he wasn't listening. Steve was having his revenge someday.
Dustin hold Steve’s face between his hands “Steve, listen to me. Finally you will see your DM boyfriend in action!" Dustin came bravely closer and whispered, "I bet you'll find it super sexy when he bosses you around" and he even dared to finish imitating a lion's roar.
“Henderson!" "Oh God" Steve and Eddie spoke at the same time,blushing .
"You three, out, now! Go!" Steve shouted.
"See you at the club, Steve!" Mike said, while Lucas and Dustin were making a kissing noises. The three of them ran out of the car, laughing even more when Steve threatened to throw a shoe at them.
Finally they alone in the car. Steve sighed and said "I’ll go if Robin goes too"
"She would go anyway. She was part of the plan B, in case you said no" Eddie said smiling. Steve tryed to complain, but Eedie came closer to his boyfriend "Apparently, I have more power over you that I imagined.” He put his hands on Steve's shoulders “Good to know” he finished, whispering.
Steve relaxed and also moved closer. “Dungeon Master, hm? Dustin is right, it's kinda sexy”
Steve closed the distance between them, kissing Eddie softly, who intertwined his arms around his neck and opened his mouth to deepen the kiss. Steve nibbled his boyfriend's lower lip when they heard
“Eeewww, not in front of the kids!" "My eyes are wounded" "It's like seeing my parents kissing"
They reluctantly parted and Eddie flipped the bird at them.
"Now they want to be kids," Steve grunted.
Eddie laughed. "But isn't it great that we have their support?"
“I don't know, is it?" Steve went back to his seat, getting ready to drive again.
"Hey" Eddie put his hand on Steve's leg and got closer again, kissing his cheek. "When we get home, let's do something I reaaaally can't wait to do."
Steve turned his face and gave Eddie a peck "Can I know what it is?" He gave another, longer kiss.
Eddie smiled and moved away. "Let's read all my D&D books together!"
"Wait ... what?"
"You'll love it! It will be so fun! Tell me, what's your opinion about cats?"
Steve was already regretting everything. But seeing how happy his boyfriend was, after everything he went through, talking nonstop about races and rules, and whatever else he was talking about… he will be a nerd for a day, for him. Eddie deserved it. Yeah ... Steve definitely was happy
