Viggo was growing weary of this battle with the Dragon Riders so he advises his men to quit battling them and turns his full attention to Hiccup. The Riders have been irritating Viggo for a week now. They normally don’t get to Viggo with such ease yet this week they’ve been pushing the wrong buttons. He wanted to catch their attention and make them focus on something else for a while. Unfortunately that meant making Hiccup the centre of attention. Viggo slowly made his way to Hiccup but still kept his distance.
“Should I tell them or do you want to?” Viggo asks Hiccup, looking at him right in the eyes. Viggo always likes getting under Hiccup’s skin. Hiccup just looked at him without blinking or saying a word. They have been fighting for only a few minutes and neither of the Dragon Riders or the Hunters were getting anywhere. Hiccup was confused for a few moments before it clicked. Viggo liked watching the cogs turn in Hiccup’s head seeing the realisation appear in his eyes.
“Don’t say another word” Hiccup finally says. Viggo could see that Hiccup wasn’t panicking over the situation but he could tell that he was uncomfortable which made him feel a little uneasy. He hoped he wouldn’t be too mad at him after today.
“Tell us what” Astrid asked, letting her guard down to focus on Hiccup and Viggo’s conversation. The others also stopped what they were doing and all turned to look at Hiccup and Viggo. Viggo knew Hiccup would tell the teens everything. Every injury to every word would be reported to those Riders. He could tell this interaction bewildered them.
“Nothing, just ignore him” Hiccup says, voice calm, still not taking his eyes off of Viggo. He noticed that Hiccup spent a lot of time looking into his eyes but right now he was begging Viggo not to say another word.
“Maybe we can show them instead.” Viggo walked closer to him and he could hear the Dragon Riders telling Hiccup to run but he didn't move. Viggo stopped a breath away from Hiccup and stood still waiting for his next move. He gently lifted his chin with his hand so he was looking directly up at Viggo.
“Please don’t. Not in front of them.” Hiccup said not really pleading with him. Viggo knew Hiccup didn’t care if his Riders knew but now definitely wasn’t the time Hiccup was thinking of. Viggo whispered against his lips,
“Where’s the fun in that” and he kissed Hiccup softly. Viggo could hear the Riders telling him to get off but he feels Hiccup completely melt under his touch. He feels Hiccup hands go to his chest trying to pull him closer. Viggo pulls away with a smirk and Hiccup just glares at him as he comes back to reality. Hiccup lets go of Viggo and walks away. During this encounter, the Hunters had grabbed the Riders to keep them from attacking Viggo. They were struggling and yelling but Hiccup just ignored it. Before Hiccup became out of earshot he speaks,
“Are the dragons where they normally are?”
“Yes my dear. Same time as usual?” Hiccup answered by looking at him with a blank stare and nodded before turning away. He heard his Hunters release the Riders and walked away to where Viggo kept the dragons while they were fighting. None of the hunters tried to stop him as he unlocked all the cages. The riders were confused as to why they were let go so easily but didn’t argue. They followed behind their leader and collected their dragons from the cells. Once they were all on their dragons, they took off to Dragon’s Edge. Viggo watched them disappear and turned around to go back to his quarters.
As they were flying back to the edge Hiccup ignored all the riders and their questions. He didn’t want to deal with them right now. This was why he prolonged this conversation for so long. He didn’t want the multiple questions and the judgement. They landed and Hiccup walked to his hut to calm himself. Viggo had just revealed to his Riders that they were more than just enemies. He didn’t know if he wanted to confront Viggo about it now or not. He’ll decide later since he has to deal with his friends first.
After a few moments of pacing and trying to wrap his head around what just happened, he walked to the Club House and sat down to eat his food. He continued to ignore the others, letting them bring up the topic again. The dinner was full of loud chewing and intense stares. Hiccup can’t remember the last time he’d seen his friends this angry or confused.
“What the hell Hiccup?” Of course Astrid would be the first to yell at him. He looked up at her, raising one eyebrow, not fully acknowledging her outburst. He went back to his food and waited for a proper question.
“How long has this been going on for?” Fishlegs finally voiced. Hiccup would rather talk to Fishlegs about these kinds of things since he doesn’t judge and will actually talk about any issues appropriately.
“Couple of months,” Hiccup answered. He could hear the disapproving noises but kept his head down.
“Are we going to talk about this at all?” Snotlout asked, looking between the Riders and Hiccup.
“There’s not a lot to talk about” Hiccup didn’t want to give them details about what he and Viggo do when everyone is asleep. He wished Viggo would have told him his plan to tell the Riders. They had talked about it but didn’t specify a time. He felt like he had betrayed them more than ever. Yes he was cozying up with the enemy and didn’t tell anyone but this felt worse because he has zero control right now.
He didn’t mean for it to happen. He went out patrolling one night after receiving a letter and things just happened. Viggo didn’t try to kill him and he finally voiced his feelings toward the Dragon Rider. At first he was disgusted but slowly over time he thought about it and wanted to see what would happen. Apparently having his friends angry at him was what happened if he got involved with Viggo. Hiccup put his head in his hands and inhaled slowly.
“How often do you go to see him?” Ruffnut asked. Hiccup looked up at her and let out a soft sigh.
“Once a week or when I feel like it.” He replied back.
“When you feel like it? You go to him voluntarily!?” Astrid yelled. Once she was angry she was impossible to calm down, especially when the cause of her anger was sitting right in front of her.
“Yeah. If you don’t mind, I’m tired. It’s been a long day.” He wasn’t really, he just didn’t want to hear anymore questions and negativity. He would do anything right now to leave this room.
“Why, so you can go and see Viggo while we are all asleep. When do you go see him? We've never seen you leave.” Astrid interrogated. Why can’t she let this go?
“If I told you that then I wouldn't be able to go anymore because you’d try to stop me. I’m sure you’ll find out soon, just not this time. Now good night” Hiccup got up and left the riders in complete shock.
Viggo tried to stay away from the Hunters and his brother after their interaction with the Dragon Riders. They all knew about Hiccup and his relationship but with Ryker, he would tell him that he was being careless letting the Riders know about them. Viggo knew Ryker didn’t like Hiccup but would never go against Viggo in any way. Viggo sits at his desk once they set sail for another part of the archipelago. He opens one of the many books he has on his desk and skims through his notes while marking places on his map. Viggo knew Hiccup would need a few days to cool down and work out his next move so he kept himself busy. He looked over the map again to check the best place to go next when there was a knock at his door disrupting his thought process.
“Come,” Viggo said and his brother walked through the door. Viggo’s facial expression didn’t change but he really didn’t want to see his brother.
“Ryker, what is it?” Viggo asked, looking back down at the map but not paying attention to it.
Ryker answered “We need to talk about what happened today, ”he also did not want to talk about it.
“There’s nothing to talk about brother.” Viggo said, not paying attention to Ryker’s presence.
“You just revealed to the Dragon Riders that you are sleeping with their leader. How long do you think it’ll take before they come after us, you especially?” Ryker asked, soundly slightly concerned.
“I wouldn't worry about it Ryker. Hiccup has very good control over his friends and wouldn’t share any information with them and he also wouldn’t let them come after us. Even though he is loyal to them they are also loyal to him. They’d never betray him no matter how mad they are at him.” Ryker let out a disapproving huff and left Viggo to his work. Viggo sat down in his chair, rubbing his hands over his eyes and letting out a sigh. It’s been a long day and he is ready for it to be over.
Hiccup couldn’t sleep that night so he waited until all the noise cleared from the edge and woke Toothless. He looked up at Hiccup and let out a grumble because they only went out last night. Hiccup got on Toothless’ back and set off to find the Dragon Hunters ship. When Hiccup and Viggo started meeting up, Viggo told Hiccup all the places they anchored. Hiccup figured they would have moved after the attack so he went to the next they would go next. Toothless had gotten used to the Dragon Hunter that when they go to see him, he stays above deck and sleeps or watches the night life in the ocean. Hiccup could tell Toothless didn’t mind coming here since when they arrive he goes to his ‘spot’.
When they get to Viggo’s ship, Hiccup goes below deck while Toothless stays put. He passes some Hunters as he walks to Viggo’s door and knocks. Viggo opened it and Hiccup saw that he was surprised to see him in front of him, especially after what happened. Hiccup knew he should’ve waited a few days but he just felt drawn to Viggo’s presence.
“Hiccup, what are you doing here this late? You should be sleeping,”
“Couldn’t sleep. Too many thoughts going around in my head.” Viggo took Hiccup by his arm and gently dragged him inside the room.
“Why did you do that?” Hiccup asked Viggo, not looking at him yet. He didn’t want to have a fight but he did want answers.
“I’m sorry. I just got annoyed with the Riders attacking every ship they saw and I just needed them to focus on something else. You were the first thing I thought of. At least they know now, I’m sorry. I know this wasn’t the way you wanted them to find out.” Viggo said, placing a gentle hand on Hiccup’s shoulder. Hiccup lets himself be turned around and Viggo places a kiss on Hiccup’s lips and Hiccup accepts the kiss.
He let Viggo run his hands over his sides and his waist while he wrapped his arms around his neck to keep him close. Hiccup knew he was forgiving him too easily, he just didn’t want to fight Viggo for something they both agreed to. Viggo detached their lips and started trailing kisses down Hiccup’s neck finding the sweet spot between his neck and collarbone. He began sucking trying to leave a mark. This is how Hiccup forgets his stressful days. By coming to Viggo’s ship, sometimes unannounced and just letting Viggo take him apart.
Hiccup decided to stay a bit longer afterwards and watch Viggo work through his maps of the archipelago. He started dozing off when Viggo’s voice cut through the silence.
“Shouldn’t you be heading home? They are going to wonder where you are and start hunting you down.” Viggo says not lifting his head from his work.
“I know. I just don’t want to go yet.” Hiccup replied as he sat up to look at the drawing he drew in one of Viggo’s books. Hiccup often drew pictures of dragons in Viggo’s notebooks or wrote out information about specific species.
“Not that I don’t love your company my dear but the sun is about to rise and Astrid rises with the sun,” Hiccup looked outside. He was right, the sun is about to rise and he didn’t want them to question him anymore than they already are.
“Alright.” Hiccup got up from the bed and stretched out his muscles. He lays a hand on Viggo's shoulder and walks out and makes his way to Toothless. Toothless is sitting by the edge of the ship watching the sun. He turns at the noise behind him and Hiccup gets on his back and they leave to go back to the edge.
The edge is still quiet when they make their way to the Club House for food. Hiccup sits down and waits for the others to join him. Even though he’d rather stay away from them, he stays put. Fishlegs walks in and is slightly surprised to see Hiccup sitting there.
“Morning Hiccup. Sleep alright?” He asked as casually as he could.
“Could’ve been better but yeah.” he said not mentioning yesterday's event being the reason for his restlessness. They sat in comfortable silence or made small talk when the twins came in talking nonsense. They completely ignored the pair sitting at the table and carried on with their conversation. It wasn’t until Astrid and Snotlout joined the room that it started to get awkward. Hiccup ignored them all except Fishlegs who spoke to him like nothing happened yesterday.
“Are we seriously going to continue to ignore what happened? Hiccup is sleeping with Viggo Grimborn. Our enemy. A Dragon Hunter. And we don’t even know when he sneaks out. How can you guys just continue on with your day right now.” Astrid was furious right now.
Not only is Hiccup with Viggo but the others pretending nothing has changed. Hiccup did everything in his power to not roll his eyes at her.
“Astrid please we’ve spoken about it already can you let it go for a moment. I’m already tired.” He also wasn’t going to mention that he already snuck out to see Viggo.
Even though he’d love to see their faces when they realise that he can come and go as he pleases.
“Argh fine but we will visit this at a later date.”he walked away and Hiccup got up too so he could start his day but not before hearing Tuffnut’s voice yelling across the room.
“Wait! Is that a hickey?” Instead of answering, Hiccup continued walking out of the room with a small smirk on his face.
Hiccup could hear the Riders yelling at him but he just ignored their every word. He was going to kill Viggo the next time he saw him. Just because the Riders know now doesn’t mean he can become Viggo’s new art piece. Hiccup walked to his forge and began working on his next project.
The Riders continued to pester Hiccup about when he snuck out but he proceeded to not give them an answer. To mess with them he snuck out every night to go see Viggo. Some nights they had sex, other nights they enjoyed each other’s company and Hiccup watched Viggo work or he read one of Viggos many books.
On the fifth night, while Hiccup was reading one of Viggo’s books Viggo asks Hiccup,
“So you’re doing this to prove a point that you can sneak out every night without them knowing. Didn’t know you had that in you,” Viggo smirked.
Hiccup heard Viggo get up from his desk and walk over to where he was sitting with one of his books. Viggo took it from Hiccup and placed a gentle kiss on his lips before pulling away before giving him the book back. Viggo knew gentle kisses made Hiccup want more.
Viggo went back to his desk and he waited until Hiccup put the book down. Hiccup walked over to Viggo and swung his leg over Viggo’s so he was sitting on his lap. He wrapped his arms around Viggo’s neck while Viggo put his hands on Hiccup’s waist and pulled him in. Viggo goes over the marks he’s already left just to hear Hiccup moan. While Viggo was kissing down his collarbone he remembered that he needed to kill him for the other marks he left.
“Wait, I forgot I needed to yell at you,” Hiccup said. Viggo stopped kissing his neck to answer
“What about my dear?”
“The teens saw the marks you left on my neck the night I came to you after you told them about us. I forgot that I needed to kill you for that” Hiccup explained, not focusing on Viggo.
“Does that mean you want me to stop?” Hiccup’s eyes shot up and he shook his head quickly
“What no! I mean… damn this didn’t work. I think this would have worked better when I first thought about it.” Hiccup said with a chuckle. Viggo just raised an eyebrow and ran his hands over Hiccup’s thighs moving towards his ass. Hiccup shuffled closer and brought his lips down to Viggo’s letting him do whatever he wanted with Hiccup.
On the seventh day of sneaking out Hiccup decided that he’d make it more obvious. If they wanted to see what he and Viggo do, so be it. He was sick of them asking and yelling at him so why not let them see. They already questioned the amount of hickeys that Viggo leaves which he told him to tone it down but does the Dragon Hunter listen. He added to them every night while going over the ones he had already left along his neck and collarbone.
Hiccup arrives at Viggo’s ship earlier and Viggo is even more surprised that he arrived this early.
“Not that I don’t love your surprises but this is a huge one. Why are you here so early won't the others follow you?”
“That’s the point. If they want to see what we do together then why not make sure they actually follow. So what do you want to do first?” That puts a huge smile on Viggos face and he grabs Hiccup by the back of the neck and pulls him in. Hiccup immediately wraps his arms around Viggo’s waist pulling his pelvis closer to his.
The Dragons Riders spot Viggos ship easily and they find Toothless napping on the deck not looking distressed. They land next to him and Toothless just opens his eyes but doesn’t move. The Riders leave their dragons above deck and go below. They make it to the only door there and listen. All they heard was silence.
They open the door and see something they never expected to see. Hiccup Haddock, heir of Berk, their leader, laying in bed. Naked. He was on his stomach, leg out to the side, blanket barely covering him. None of them moved. They just stood there watching the man next to him, Viggo Grimborn, Dragon Hunter, Chief of his tribe move to Hiccup’s small body pulling him closer to him. Hiccup turned himself around so his head was on Viggo’s chest. The Riders didn’t make a sound. They slowly moved backwards and closed the door behind them.
They went back to the deck and just stood there in silence not knowing what to say or do about what they just saw. Snotlout and the twins had the most neutral expression whereas Astrid looked like she was about to grab her axe and run back down there to kill. Fishlegs looked more shocked than angry about what he saw. He never cares about what his friends do as long as they are safe. But it’s still scary to see your best friend in bed with their enemy.
When Viggo heard the door open to his chambers, he didn’t move or open his eyes. He knew it was the Riders. They knew the Riders were going to follow but they didn’t know when they’d decide to make an appearance. Viggo heard the quiet gasps and he decided to move himself closer to Hiccup’s warm body. He felt Hiccup stir, rolling over and placing his head on his chest. He wrapped arm tighter around the small Rider, letting out a soft sigh. If he could do one thing for the rest of his life, it would be holding Hiccup Haddock close to him.
Listening to his soft breathing and feeling his warmth against his body. When Hiccup agreed to give this try he never anticipated it to be this perfect. He didn’t expect Hiccup to say yes after asking only once yet here they were. He hoped this mess with the Riders would clear up soon. He hated seeing Hiccup this unsettled. Viggo gave Hiccup a light kiss on the head before trying to get back to sleep.
Hiccup left Viggo’s ship just before sunrise and returned as the sun rose over the volcano of Dragons Edge. Hiccup landed and walked to the dragon training arena and found the others waiting for him. Hiccup looks at them waiting for them to tell him they followed him. When they didn’t say anything Hiccup broke the silence.
“You guys look like you saw something you wish you hadn’t,”
The Riders didn’t say anything so Hiccup turned around and was about to walk away when Astrid spoke up
“We saw you. With Viggo. In his bed.” Hiccup stopped walking and smirked to himself.
His Riders were so predictable. Hiccup turned around to face them with a calm look. He waited for her to elaborate but she didn’t say anything more. So he guessed it was his turn to speak although he didn’t have much to say on the matter.
“And…” the Riders looked at him in shock. He knew they were going to follow him. This was his plan.
He wanted them to see nothing was forced. That he wanted to be there but he guessed they wanted a proper explanation
“I knew you guys were going to follow me. I just didn’t know when. Viggo told me you guys arrived in the middle of the night.”
“What do you mean Viggo told you. He knew we were there?”
“Yeah of course he did. He’s a very light sleeper. Any noise wakes him.” The riders were lost for words. How did they not notice that Viggo was awake? That move he pulled made so much sense to them now but they still didn’t know what to say.
“Now if we’re done here. I’m still pretty tired. I had a long night.” Hiccup said with a smile and turned around then said, “Oh and by the way. If you haven’t noticed, Viggo hasn’t killed or captured a dragon in months.” Hiccup waited for them to say something else but they didn’t say a thing so he just turned and walked out leaving them to their thoughts.
