Chapter Text
Clumsy would be one way to describe Juliette, she herself preferred the term; 'gravitationally challenged.' Not that it mattered all that much, as she had been dealt a hand of fait as she stumbled over her own feet straight into the back of the new girl. She hadn't had the chance, or bravery mustered up to approach her just yet. But with her iced coffee dripping down the back of the girl she couldn't escape what where rather poor first impressions.
"I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention and I stumbled..." she spoke hoping the quicker she said it the faster this interaction would go. Ignoring the fact that it would seem so much longer anyway as soon as the silence filled the air. it was in this moment of tension that Calliope finally turned. The look on her face was about as far away from the feared anger Juliette had expected. The foremost emotion that was painting her face was surprise, followed with worry almost instantly. From where Juliette was still partially on the floor after her fall she could see the jacket being taken off and got momentarily distracted by the sheer power she could see in her arms.
"You good?" Calliope asked as she reached a hand out to help the girl who would soon stain her jeans in the puddle of rapidly approaching coffee. Her jacket could take the momentary drenching, and if it couldn't it was a pretty shit raincoat. Making sure to take a hold of her arm as she pulled the girl up she tried to put a name to the face. They hadn't talked, she knew that much. But with her arriving only last Wednesday, that didn't say a whole lot. If not for the deer looking into headlights look on her face, she wasn't all that bad to look at form up close.
"I... sorry about the jacket," Juliette managed to say as she was pulled to her feet. She hadn't been wrong, the girl defiantly worked out as she had grabbed a hold of her arm. Making sure to let go as soon as it was appropriate she snapped her arm back down to the side of her body.
"It will be fine, just have to rinse it probably," Calliope told the girl as she started to look around for a bathroom sign. She hadn't been in this building of the school just yet and the rapid tour the vice-principal had given her had not featured bathroom stops. Looking back to the girl she found that Juliette was still standing where she had pulled her up. Catching just the last movements of her eyes back up to her own face. "Mind pointing me to a bathroom? I haven't been here just yet..." she let out as she stepped away from the coffee puddle, dragging Juliette with her.
"Oh, sure. it's just down there," Juliette pointed to the right. Trying her best not to flee the scene, but as much as her fight or flight was trying to take her out of there. The rather calm presence of Calliope managed to keep her nerves under control, she couldn't read her mind but for now it seemed that there was no hostility radiating form the girl.
"Thanks." Calliope said as she made her way down the hall. it wasn't the most awkward interaction she had had, but if the other party was this cute she could overlook the circumstances. Finding a sink she quickly ran the back of the jacket under the faucet, as she had tough the coffee came right off. Grabbing a handful of paper towels when it was dry to the touch she bound it around her waist. Barring being super unlucky there was no more danger of being dredged in another liquid inside the building. Checking her phone she could see that the class had already started. Hurrying over she wondered what the other girl was doing.
Seeing Calliope enter the classroom a couple minutes later Juliette's attention was brought back to the front of the room. They had been reading a Steinbeck novel and her heart wasn't super into it. Already sure of a passing grade she had excused herself form the effort of excelling at this exact topic. A Pretty girl on the other hand was something she was much more willing to pay attention too. Trying to hear what the teacher was saying she could make out that her lateness wasn't all that big a deal and that she could pick any free place left in the class. Glancing to her right she knew there had already been someone.
Calliope made her way towards the back of the classroom, It wasn't her intention on being late but the teacher had seemed to understand. The clumsy girl sitting in the fourth row she gave a slight smile before taking a seat in the second to last row. Grabbing her copy Of Mice and Men she turned it to the page noted on the whiteboard. The task at hand was a simple analysis on the themes in the chapter, grabbing a pen she started work on that as soon as she could get the cute girls face out of her head. Something that proved more difficult when she glanced over to see a pair of now familiar eyes look back at her own.
Seeing Calliope look back at her, Juliette looked away. Somewhere she expected to feel a degree of shame or something like it but it was more of a face warming feeling. Something was happening and while she could think about it herself she really really wasn't ready to face this in English lit. It was more something for Ben to explain back to her later, not now.
