Nacht Faust was begging to god. And he was crying and trembling and he wanted to die. In his arms was the dead body of his poor sweet innocent baby brother. That couldn’t be. Why Morgen? Why not him? Morgen didn’t do anything. He was a sweet soul who didn’t deserve to die this early. Nacht didn‘t notice someone breaking down the door and someone calling out his name. Everything was a haze.
„Nacht!! And Morgen.. what the hell happened here?!“ a very familiar voice reached his ears. Yami.. Yami?
„Y-Yami..Morgen… he is.. he is dead..“ Nacht chocked out.
Yami kneeled down in front of them. „He is not.. his mana is gone but..“ He put two fingers on Morgens wrist. „He has a very weak pulse.. we need to get him to Owen! Now!“
Nacht just looked at him.
„Damn Nacht.. snap out of it! Use your shadow magic and get Morgen to Owen. Now!!“
Nacht heard him. He nodded and quickly put his hand on Yamis shoulder and disappeared into a shadow, Morgen still in his arms. They quickly arrived at Owens, who looked at them.. with huge shock in his eyes. He ran to them and took Morgen out of Nachts arms very quickly.
„I will try my best to heal him but I can’t promise anything. Please wait outside you two“ Owen said to them in his calm voice.
„But..“ Nacht stated, panic raising in him once again.
„Come Nacht.. let Owen work“ Yami said, putting his hand on Nachts back and guided him out.
They waited. Time felt like it stood still.
Yami and him talked about what happened and to his surprise Yami wasn’t mad at him.
Finally, Owen came out.
„I healed him but he didn’t wake up. His condition is stable but I can’t say if he will ever wake up. I did my best“ he spoke and Nacht felt like as if someone punched him in the stomach with their whole strength. His brother never waking up again?
„Thank you, doctor Owen.“ Yami said but Nachts head was spinning. He felt like as if he would pass out at any moment.
„Hey, don’t pass out on me“ Yami spoke to him.
Nacht took a deep breath. „I am trying not to“ his throat was dry.
„He will wake up, okay? Believe in Morgen. He is strong. He can do this“
„But.. what if he will never forgive me? What if he will hate me?“ Nacht wanted to cry again but he managed to hold back.
Yami laughed.
„Morgen hating you?! Do you know who you are talking about? He is the nicest guy ever and he loves you, Nacht. And if I’m not mad at you he won’t be either“
„But..“ Nacht started but Yami raised his hand to silence him. Maybe he was right after all, but the shadow mage still had his doubts. The guilt laying heavy on his shoulders.
When his knees gave out, Yami was there to catch him. And in that moment, Nacht fell in love with the other man.
„It’s going to be okay, Nacht. He will be okay. Morgen will wake up at some point, I am sure of it.“ Yami tried to calm Nacht, slowly sitting him down on the floor. „Should I get Owen to get you checked?“
„No, I am fine. Don’t worry about me“
„If you say so.. you just collapsed on me but you were always stubborn“ Nacht could clearly hear the worry in Yamis voice. Bastard.
„I didn’t collapse on you.“ Nacht argued back. „My knees only gave out“
„Tch. But okay if you think that isn’t collapsing then I can’t help you“
„How long do you think will he be asleep?“ Nacht asked.
„I dunno, Nacht. Not even Owen can answer that question. We can only wait“ Yami sighed.
„Why are you taking this so easy?! Morgen is your friend but you seem like as if it doesn’t affect you“
Yami stared at him as if he has gone insane. „You think that doesn’t affect me? It does, Nacht. It does affect me a lot but I just don’t show it. One of us has to at least to pretend to be strong. I am not taking this easily, Nacht. Not at all“ Yamis voice cracked slightly at the end and Nachts heart sank in his stomach.
He never meant to hurt Yami this way.
„Lets get out of here, Kay?“ Yami suggested. „You can crash at mine for awhile, I am sure the old geezer won’t mind“
Nacht only nodded in agreement. He didn’t know how he deserved that much kindness. They quickly arrived at the Grey Deer base, thanks to Nachts shadow magic.
„Lay down. I am gonna tell Julius that you are here. I will be back in a second, okay?“ Yami said.
Nacht did as he was told, the exhaustion heavy in his bones. His mind slipped back to Morgen. He still asked himself why Morgen? Morgen is a better person than he was. Than everyone else was. He was bright. He used to hate how bright Morgen was but now he would do anything to bask in Morgens brightness. To see his smile.
„Stop overthinking. Morgen wouldn’t want that you overthink that so much“ he startled as he heard Yamis voice speak to him.
„What else am I supposed to do, Yami? I got my little brother in so much danger, he nearly died. Now he is in a coma and he might never wake up again. He doesn’t deserve this. He deserves kindness, warmth and all the good things in the world. Not a shitty and selfish big brother like me who got him in danger just because of my greed to possess power“ he babbled out without even meaning to.
Yami sighed. „Listen.. I get your point but right now believe in Morgen, okay? Believe that he will wake up. Oh and by the way, Julius is fine with you staying here, you hang around here constantly anyway“
Nacht only nodded. He saw Yami laying next to him and Nacht raised an eyebrow. „What? I only have one bed. Do you wanna sleep on the floor?“
„No. But don’t cuddle me. I will make you fly with my shadows.“
„Yikes. Okay bastard. Calm down“ Yami said, rolling his eyes.
They both got undressed and crawled under Yamis blanket. Nacht resisted the urge to cuddle up to Yami. He really wanted to but he wouldn’t.
„Do it, mister Nacht. We know you want it“ he heard his devil Gimodelo speak in his mind. Murmurs of agreement from his other 3 devils. Damn them. Before he could stop himself, Nacht flushed against Yamis chest in a fluid motion. It felt right. It felt like as if he belonged there.
Yami didn‘t say anything. He just wrapped his muscular arms around Nachts petite figure. And even though no word was spoken between them, nobody said anything, everything said more than a thousand words: Be there for me. Hold me and don’t let go. I love you.
But everything just went unsaid. They fell asleep just like that. Seeking and finding comfort in the other boys embrace.
The moon shone bright on the night sky when the door to Morgens room opened and a figure slipped into the room. It was quiet. William Vangeance walked with slow steps torwards the bed Morgen was laying in. In the next moment, he put a hand on Morgens cheek and tears started to drip down his own cheeks. Morgen.. his Morgen. He looked like as if he was just peacefully sleeping. But William knew he wasn’t just sleeping.
„Hey Morgen..“ he spoke, his voice barley a whisper, the hand on Morgens cheek started to tremble. „You have to wake up, okay? You can’t just leave me here, all alone. I need you, Morgen“ Williams voice was breaking. He and Morgen just recently started dating, their love was fresh and still blooming but William knew that this man had his heart. His hand left Morgens cheek to take Morgens hand in his own. His boyfriend looked so fragile, delicate like a flower. William took in a sharp breath. Seeing Morgen like that broke his heart, he wished Morgen would wake up and kiss him and the world would be alright again. His world will be alright again. But he knew that wasn’t the case anytime soon, if even ever so all he could is watch his boyfriend sleep and it hurt so much. Too much. William placed a kiss on Morgens forehead and in the next moment he put his ear on Morgens heart, listening to it. It was beating steady in Morgens chest. With the steady sounds of Morgens heartbeat in his ear, his eyes fell shut and he fell asleep.
Months flew by in the blink of an eye and Morgen didn’t wake up. Nacht visited him everyday.
He walked to Morgens bed. „Hey little brother.. come back soon, okay? I need you. Hell, we all need you back. I even promise to become a Magic Knight and to help the people in this kingdom like you wanted me to do. Alongside with you and Yami. I am so sorry that I was so selfish. That I only ever used my magic for my own benefits. That I never helped people with it. You are a better person than me and you will always be but I promise you to try and to become better. Oh and.. „ Nacht took a deep breath „I realized that I am in love with Yami. Like you always said I was but I never admitted it even though you were right. Please.. don’t leave me all alone. I will never forgive me for that but if you never wake up again.. what even is the point then?“ Tears streamed down Nachts cheeks. He was still hanging around at the grey deer and Julius even offered him to join but Nachts declined the order. He just felt like it wasn’t the right squad for him. He still needed to find a place to belong but it wasn’t the grey deer for him.
3 years passed and Morgen didn’t wake up. Yami was appointed as a squad captain and he threw something at Nacht.
„You are part of my squad now. I will chose you as my vice captain.“ Yami said.
Nacht saw the robe that Yami threw at him. It was black with a bull head on the front. Him? Vice captain? He wasn’t sure about that.
„Yami.. I.. I am not sure if I deserve that position. I want to be a magic knight but I don’t know if I even deserve to be one“
Yami sighed. „Look, you don’t have to accept my offer but no one else would fit this position better than you. Morgen would want that, too. If he were awake he would tell you to accept it“
Nacht sighed back. „Okay, I will accept your offer. I mean it gives me the freedom to accept the mission Julius gave me. I can work as a spy in Spade“
„I know“ Yami said. „He told me about it.“
„But I am not going to wear that ridiculous robe. I will have the bullhead on my grimoire porch, that should be enough“
„Okay. When will your mission start?“ Yami asked, raising an eyebrow.
„Tomorrow. I will leave early in the morning. Why are you a-„
But before Nacht could say another word, he felt lips on his lips. His eyes widened. Yami kissed him.
Yami wanted to pull away but Nacht just pulled him back in and returned the kiss. His hands wandering over Yamis toned body. A night wouldn’t hurt. Just a night.
Just giving in to his down selfish desires wouldn’t hurt for once.
Yamis hands landed on his ass and Yami pulled him even closer to him and Nacht felt Yamis very obvious bulge. Oh.
„I want you..“ Nacht breathed against Yamis neck.
„You will have me..“ Yami replied and in the next moment Nachts shirt was on the floor.
It was a night filled with passion and moans and loud breathing filled the room.
A few hours later, Nacht layed awake in Yamis bed. Yami fell asleep and Nacht questioned. Did Yami only see him as a quick fuck? He probably did. But Nacht was fine with that. It’s not that he didn’t want a relationship with Yami, at least not now when he will be gone to spy in Spade for god knows how long. He sighed as he watched the other man sleep. He had Yami promise him to call him immediately when Morgen wakes up. No matter what time, he will be in Clover in second if that happens.
If… Nacht hated that word.
Nacht didn‘t sleep that night and left before Yami woke up. He left very early. Now he was in spade and it was cold. Very cold. Compared to Clover where it was summer. Nacht sat on the bed of the small cottage he got for himself and which would be his home for a very long time now. A long sigh escaped his lips. He missed Morgen so much…
Years flew by in the blink of an eye. Nacht was still a spy in spade, Morgen didn‘t wake up. Nacht hoped he would but he didn’t. It was terrible. Nacht sighed and looked at the photo on his nightstand. A frame of him and Morgen as children. Both smiling and Morgen clinging to Nacht. Morgen was always clingy. He used to climb into Nachts bed after nightmares. Nacht was annoyed back then but he wished he could turn back time and cuddle Morgen till his baby brother fell asleep again. But he knew that wasn’t the case and all what was left was the hope that his brother will wake up one day and that he can hug him again. Nacht swore to himself that he will never let Morgen go again if he has the opportunity to hug his little brother again.
The door to Morgens room cracked open and a bulky figure walked in. „Hey“ Yami spoke and sat down next to Morgens bed. „I know you were always a sleepyhead but c‘mon, sleeping that long? You can’t be serious“ he sighed and took Morgens hand in his. „Will it help when I tell you that I am in love with your stupid brother? Yeah, I finally realized it. Took me long enough, I can hear you say that“ but of course, Morgen didn’t wake and Yami was greeted with silence. A single tear dropped down Yamis face. „When you knew what Vangeance did.. you would be so disappointed but knowing you, you would probably forgive him in a heartbeat. Babbling about giving people a second chance and all that. Because you are just like that.“ Yami sighed again. „Come back soon, okay? So Nacht has a reason to come back and I finally have one of my closest friends back.. we all need you back, Morgen.“ he squeezed Morgens hand gently. „I have my own squad now. I picked up kids that are outcasts and that have nowhere else to go. One of my newest idiots, Asta is his name.. he has no magic but that kid is amazing. You would absolutely love him because he just shines as bright as you do, just in a different way. Yeah, you two would definitely get along. I need you to meet him and the rest of my idiots soon, Morgen“ Yami let Morgens hand go. He really hoped that Morgen would wake up soon.
„Damn it“ Nacht cursed under his breath. „Yami you idiot.. letting yourself be taken.“ Nacht knew that it was now his turn to return to Clover. There was no other way around. He sighed and he disappeared into one of his shadows, taking the necessary papers with him and he was in front of the hospital. He planned to visit Morgen but then he saw a boy running out. Nacht used his magic to stop him moving. He figured that was one of Yamis idiots, planning to save Yami. Or rather, just running straight into danger, without even thinking about it. How ignorant. He saw the boy break his magic with his sword. How interesting. Nacht figured that must be the anti magic kid Asta.
Nacht was right. That was Asta. Nacht couldn’t help but to take an immediate liking to the young boy. He was loud, reckless and not the smartest but he had a good and pure heart. He even promised Asta to teach him how to use him the power of his devil.
They were on a training break and Nacht gave a sandwich to Asta. „Eat up. You need all your strength. You haven’t beat me yet“
„But I will soon, vice captain Nacht, sir!“ Asta replied, stars blinking in his eyes. Then Asta looked at him and asked „Why are you so sad, vice Captain? Your ki is so sad all the time and I want to know why“
Nacht nearly choked on his own sandwich and he knew he will have to kill Yami with his own hands when he survives spade for teaching the boy how to use this damn ki ability.
Nacht sighed. „My brother is in a coma since 10 years and it is my fault“ he knew it was pointless lying to Asta.
„Oh?“ Asta tilted his head. „How is it your fault?“
Before Nacht could stop himself, he told Asta everything.
The smile Asta gave him was blinding. „I don’t think it’s your fault, vice Captain. At least not completely. Your brother got himself in danger because he jumped in. I think he should have asked others for help as well“
He sounded like Yami, Nacht found.
After 3 long days of training, Asta was able to use devil union and now there were here, fighting in Spade, right now against supreme devil Lucifero. Asta was the last one standing, he and Yami (who they were able to rescue) had their chest pierced and Nacht swore it was the worst physical pain he ever felt in his life.
Nacht didn‘t know why and how but they won and everyone survived. Nacht decided to life with the Black Bulls for good this time.
Bright blue eyes slowly opened. Morgens world was still blurry and he blinked hard and everything came into focus. He found himself in a hospital bed. Huh?
„Oh my god. You are awake“ a calm and gentle voice suddenly spoke.
Morgen identified the voice as doctor Owens.
He tried to speak but only a coughing fit came out.
„It’s alright. You don’t have to speak. All that matters is that you are awake.“ He helped Morgen to drink a glass of water.
Morgen tried to speak again. „H-how is my brother? How is Yami? How is everyone else? What about William?“
Owen sighed. „Typically you. Worrying about everyone else when you should worry about yourself. Morgen, you slept for 10 years. This is a very long time. But your brother and Yami are alive and well. William is as well.“
Morgens eyes widened. „10 years? But how..“ in that moment his memories came back. Oh. That is how. But then a smile appeared on his lips. „I am glad that my brother is okay. I wanna see everyone“
„You can. But I wanna check you first“ Owen said. Morgen nodded.
Morgen was on his way to the Black bulls base. Owen told him everything that happened in the time he was asleep. And it was a lot to take in but he was glad that everyone survived when the elf war was going on and that they survived the Spade fight. Morgen was happy. It was a bright and sunny day.
Nacht laid on the couch, his head in Yamis lap. „It’s too hot today“ he sighed. He and Yami got together after the Spade war, after they spoke about their shared night together before he got to Spade and after they finally admitted their feelings to each other.
„I know you are not a big fan of warm weather. You never were“ Yami spoke and stroked Nachts cheek whilst reading his newspaper. Nacht sighed and leaned into the gentle touch.
Suddenly, there was a gentle knock at the door. Nacht felt a very similar mana.. no, that couldn’t be.. or could it? Did he really wake up?
„You feel him too, huh?“ Yami said.
Nacht nodded and got up. „You lot, the person who arrived is very important to me. You better not scare him off with your ruckus“
They all just looked at him. Nacht sighed and opened the door and.. Morgen really stood there.
„M-Morgen..“ Nachts breath hitched.
„Hello, nii - san. I am back“ Morgen smiled.
Nacht took a deep, shaky breath. „You are back..“ he replied.
„Yes Nacht. I am back. Can I come in?“ Morgen asked.
„Uh-um sure..“ Nacht stepped aside to let Morgen in.
„Hello everyone! My name is Morgen. I am Nachts twin brother!“ Morgen waved.
Yami stood up and walked to Morgen, a huge smile on his face. „It was about time that you wake up, sleeping beauty“ then he pulled Morgen into a bone crashing hug. „Welcome back, Morgen“
Morgen wrapped his arms around Yamis neck. „Thank you, Yami.“ Yami let go of Morgen and in the next moment, Morgen felt how he was pulled into another hug and he knew immediately that it was Nacht. „I am so glad that you are back, Morgen. I am so sorry. I am so so sorry that I put you into so much danger“ Nacht was crying and sobbing into Morgens neck. Morgen patted Nachts back. „It’s okay, nii - san. I am here now. I am back. I am okay“
„Is vice captain crying?“ a voice was heard.
„He is. I never thought that I would ever witness that“
Whispers and murmurs were heard.
„Shut up..“ Nacht said and rubbed his eyes. „You don’t understand.“
He tried to calm down as fast as possible. „My brother was in a coma for a very long time. 10 years to be except and the possibility of him waking up was very low“
Asta walked towards Morgen. „Oh, so you are Vice Captains Nacht brother? That’s awesome!!!“ Stars blinked in Astas eyes again.
„Yes, I am. And you are?“ Morgen looked at the boy whilst still having his arm around his brother.
„I am Asta!“
„Nice to meet you, Asta! Nice to meet everyone here!“ Morgen looked around.
„Introduce yourself, idiots“ Yami said.
So, they all did that.
Once, that was was said and done, they all gathered around the table and Charmy started to place food in it.
„Dig in, la“ she said, placing a huge amount of food in front of Morgen.
„Thank you, it smells very good!“ Morgen thanked her and took a bite. „Oh, it tastes awesome!“
„Thank you, la!“ Charmy said happily.
Morgen looked around and he saw how Yami squeezed Nachts hand. It was short and very gentle but the smile Yami also gave Nacht and the smile Nacht gave him in return, said more than words.
„Nii - san, Yami, you two are finally together?“ he asked.
Nacht looked up at him. „Yes, we are. We got together recently. I know it took us too long“
„It definitely took you long enough but I am very happy to see that. I have to see William later. I hope he is doing well“ Morgens voice sounded a little concerned.
„Well, technically he is fine but he got through a lot of bullshit recently, so seeing you will definitely cheer him up“ Yami said with a smile.
„I hope so“
Morgen finished his food. „Hmm, that was delicious. It has been way too long since I ate something. And I have never ate something that good“
Charmy beamed. „I love him, I love him, can we keep him?“
Vanessa squeezed her cheek against Morgens cheek. „I agree. I wanna keep him too“
„Um thank you“ Morgen said a little embarrassed.
She let go of him. „you are just so nice and sweet. Your brother is mean“
Nacht looked at her. „I am not mean. I am just honest“
„You made Grey cry. That is a grave crime“
„But I apologized“ Nacht sighed.
„You sure have an interesting bunch of people here, Yami“ Morgen giggled. „I like it here, they are all so lively“
„Thank you. I handpicked most of them.“
„I knew I was right when I said that you have a good eye for people. They all seem very powerful“ Morgen looked around again and yelped a little when a fireball barley missed him.
„Catch me if you can, Magnaaa“ Luck said, laughing and dodging Magnas fireballs.
In the next moment they were pinned down by Nachts shadow hands. „Stop it, you two“ he said and sighed again.
„Awww you are no fun, vice Captain“ Luck said. „Fight meeeee“
„No“
„Aw. Can I fight him?“ Luck looked at Morgen.
„I would like to but I think I need to train a little before. I haven’t used my magic in so long and I think I got a little rusty“ Morgen said.
„Okay but when you trained enough, you have to fight me!“
„I will“ Morgen smiled.
Morgen spent a few hours at the Black Bulls and he found himself liking them, espically Asta. This kid was truly amazing.
They all had their quirks and they were all unique but he could tell that they were all good people.
„Do you like my people?“ Yami asked him at some point.
„I do! They all have their quirks but they are all good people.“ Morgen leaned against the sofa. „I am so glad to be back and to witness all of this. You chose well, Yami“
„Thank you. Ya know, without you telling me that I could be a squad captain one day because I have a good eye for people and the power to bring them together, I wouldn’t even have tried to become a captain.“ Yami took a drag of his cigarette. „Nacht refused to join us for so many years though because of his spy mission. I know that he wanted out of clover so he isn’t reminded of what happened to you“ a sigh left his lips.
„Thought so. But I am glad that he is with you now. I can tell that he is happy here but I know he would never admit it.“ a grin spread across Morgens face.
„Oh, he would never. But he still has to adjust. He needs to learn not to constantly insult them. It has gotten better. The only one he isn’t insulting constantly is Asta. He loves that kid“
„Yeah, I figured that out. So, you and nii - san got together and you are all parenting these kids? Aww, thats so sweet of you!“ Morgen saw the obvious blush on Yamis face.
„Shut up. We are not the parents of these idiots.. okay, maybe we are but some of them are close to our ages so we are probably more like brother or uncle figures to them. But thats fine too“ Yami smiled fondly.
A little while later Morgen got up. „I would love to stay but I have to go see William now. But I will be back, I promise!“
Nacht also got up and hugged Morgen. „Please come back soon. Don’t leave me again..“
Morgen felt the heavy aniexty from Nacht. „I will be back, nii - san. I promise. I am fine, okay?“
Nacht nodded and slowly let go. „See you soon“ Nacht whispered and kissed Morgen on the cheek.
After everyone said goodbye to him, he left and made his way to the Golden Dawn base. He was so excited to have William back in his arms again soon. It has been way too long. He stood before the door where a blonde guy with an undercut was standing guard.
„Who are you?!“ he asked and was about to get his grimoire out.
„I am Morgen Faust. I promise I won’t do any harm. I just wanna see your captain“ Morgen replied in his gentle and calm voice.
The boy looked at him, his suspicious look obvious. „Hmm okay. But if I notice something off, I will not hesitate to hurt you“
„Alright. But I promise that nothing will happen.“
After he was told where Williams bedroom is, he walked up the stairs. He arrived at Williams bedroom door and knocked gently.
„Please come in“ he heard Williams gentle voice.
Morgen stepped in. „Hello William“
„M-Morgen…“ Williams eyes widened in shock.
„Hey..I am back“ Morgen walked up to William and wrapped his arms around him.
„Oh my god, I am so happy that you are back.. finally.. I thought you‘d never wake up“ William wrapped his arms around Morgen, the couple holding each other close.
Morgen chuckled. „Well, as you can see I am here now. And I won’t be leaving anytime soon.“ he smiled down at the smaller man.
„Morgen.. I-I have done a sin.. I betrayed the whole kingdom..“ William suddenly said and looked down. „I can understand if you don’t me anymore“
„I know what you did. I have been told. But William.. I wouldn’t have come here in the first place, if I wouldn’t want you anymore. Yeah, what you did was bad and I am for sure disappointed in you but.. my brother has also done a sin, even more than once because he used forbidden magic and summoned devils and I forgave him as well. If I can forgive him, then I can do the same with you“ Morgen put his hand on Williams cheek.
The other man didn’t reply with words but with a kiss instead. Morgen smiled and returned the kiss.
Yami and Nacht layed in Yamis bed together, Nachts head on Yamis chest and he sighed happily.
„I can’t believe that he is back. It still feels like a dream. But I am so happy. I could hug him again“
„I told you all the time that he will come back. It took time but I was sure that he will wake up. Seems like as if I was right, like always“ Yami grinned.
„Shut up, you moron. But yeah, in that case, you were right. I hate to admit that though“ Nacht didn’t look at Yami.
Yami only let out a laugh. „I love you, Nacht.“
Nacht almost shuddered because Yamis voice sounded so soft and gentle.
„I love you too, you stupid brute“ but Nacht smiled and his voice sounded as equally as soft.
With that smile on his lips he fell asleep, happier than he ever was before.
