Chapter Text

“It’s funny how your team is made up of a green life, a yellow life, and a red life, and the green life is the only one who’s killed someone,” Scar commented. “Why is Pearl more hostile than you, Ren?”

”There’s dark magic at the centre of this world,” Ren simply responded. “Pearl is connected to it, allowing her to kill things even while green. And me? I’m planning on killing someone very soon. I just had to get you disconnected from Grian first. Wouldn’t want a potential ally dying in the process.”

”So you’re gonna kill Grian?” Scar asked. Ren nodded. “Hey, this is kind of random, but I’m gonna head out for a while,” Martyn interrupted. “I have a plan that involves the Deep Dark.” “Oooh, can I come with you? There’s something down there that I’ve been meaning to do,” Scar replied. Martyn shrugged. “If you want… but just as a fair warning, my plan is pretty dangerous.”

”I can deal with danger,” Scar boasted. “In fact, some people even call me Scar “danger” GoodTimes.” “I don’t think your ability to deal with danger is the reason people call you that,” Pearl giggled. “Hey-!! Wait, no, you have a point,” Scar notes. “I’m still coming, though.”

And so Scar and Martyn climbed down the perilous ladder leading down from Pearl’s house. “Good luck!” Ren shouted down to them. “Don’t die!” Pearl added. “We won’t!” Scar replied.

That, unfortunately, was not the truth.

“There’s something I don’t understand,” Scott said, sitting down in his house, next to Cleo. “And what would that be?” Cleo asked. “When Pearl killed me, she stabbed straight through my diamond chestplate with an unenchanted diamond sword named ???. I’ve talked with a couple people, and apparently, she doesn’t have an anvil and she made that sword herself,” Scott explained.

”Did anything unusual happen before she killed you?” Cleo questioned. “I mean, she has giant demonic wings now, but like… she’s a demon. Of course she does. Oh! And it took me longer to respawn than it should’ve,” Scott answered.

”Hmm… this isn’t good,” Cleo commented. “Martyn came by to visit me yesterday as well. He has a demon tail now, did you know that?” “Their whole group is made up of demons, I think. Did you know they recruited Scar too? He’s a dangerous enemy to have. When he turns red, we need to watch our backs,” Scott replied.

”Even before then, too. You saw what he did to the ranch. Our houses could be next. They’re very flammable, you know,” Cleo said. “You’re right. We should probably work on building up defens-” before Scott could finish his sentence, he heard a knock on the door. He and Cleo shot a quick glance at each other, then at the door, and Cleo got up to answer it.

To both of their relief, it was Grian. “Oh, hey Grian. We thought you were someone else,” Cleo laughed awkwardly. “Yeah, I saw what Pearl did to Scott the other day. I mean, I didn’t see it, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I have a proposition for you and Scott. How would you two like to join the Red Velvet Alliance?” Grian offered. “Currently it’s just BigB and I, but we’re looking to expand.”

”What’s in it for us?” Cleo asked, crossing her arms. “Access to all the tnt in the world,” Grian answered. “And revenge on your ex-soulbounds.” “And all the cookies you could ever ask for!” BigB added, walking up to the door. “Woah, Grian, you’ve got a red life on your side? I thought you were against teaming with them,” Cleo said.

”I was, until a certain group of demons decided to break the rules. I thought, ‘hey, why not give them a taste of their own medicine?’ and recruited BigB for the Red Velvet Alliance,” Grian explained. “We were already secret soulmates, too,” BigB added.

”Give me a moment to discuss matters with my soulmate,” Cleo responded, before closing the door on Grian and walking back to Scott. “Should we do it?” she asked. “Grian could be a powerful ally considering his tnt monopoly. I heard that he’s got all the sand within the border locked away in an ender chest somewhere.” “Revenge on Pearl would be nice…” Scott contemplated. “I say we do it. What harm could it do?”

Cleo walked back up to the door and opened it with a smile. “Sorry about that, we’ve decided to accept your offer.” “Seriously? Ugh, with you two out of the picture we’ll have to turn to Timmy and Tango or something,” Grian complained. “Grian-” Cleo was once again cut off by Grian. “I can’t believe they turned it down, BigB! I mean, they were our first choice and anything else would just feel disappointing!”

”GRIAN! We said we ACCEPT your offer, dummy,” Cleo interrupted. “Oh.” Grian turned bright red out of embarrassment and laughed awkwardly. “Well, that’s embarrassing. But also that’s great! Here, let’s shake on it.”

Grian extended his hand, and Cleo extended hers to meet it. They shook hands and smiled at each other. “Oh, and one more thing,” Grian said as he walked away. “Scar might hate you now because he abandoned me for the demons okay bye!”

Scott and Cleo sighed. “Why do we always get tangled up in this stuff?”

Down in the ancient city, Martyn and Scar had their own problems to deal with. “You know, Grian didn’t allow me down here when we were bound,” Scar whispered. “So this is my first time.” “Oh, that’s unfortunate. Just remember to keep quiet,” Martyn whispered back.

Unfortunately, Scar didn’t seem to hear him, because as soon as he saw the enchanting table he yelled, “there it is!” “Shhh!” Martyn shushed. “I’m just gonna go over there, ‘kay?” Scar said, sneaking off towards the enchanting table. Martyn facepalmed, and continued to tiptoe towards the nearest skulk shrieker.

Right as Martyn was about to reach the shrieker, Scar yelled, “Martyn, there’s a hole here!” Martyn immediately froze, and the shrieker let out its piercing cry. The vision of both people began to go dark at the edges, and Martyn very loudly shushed Scar.

As soon as the darkness receded, Martyn quietly walked over to Scar and looked down into the hole he was talking about. “It doesn’t look like it has a bottom,” Scar whispered. “That’s impossible. Nothing can break bedrock,” Martyn whispered back. Scar smiled at Martyn. “I’m gonna test it.” “What?!” Martyn whispered harshly. “Why?” “Just watch,” Scar replied, holding a water bucket in his hand before jumping into the hole.

After about 30 seconds, a message appeared on Martyn’s communicator.

GoodTimesWithScar fell out of the world.

What? Martyn thought to himself. “How-” He stared down into the hole again, covered it with wool, and went back to what he was doing.

As Martyn once again approached the shrieker, he carefully stepped on it, and it shrieked. He did this three more times, but nothing happened. The warden didn’t spawn. Which didn’t make any sense.

The conditions were perfect for the warden to crawl up out of the ground and attack him. But it didn’t. What was going on?
