Pearl climbed back up the ladder into her house, a content grin on her face. She had done what she’d always wanted to do and didn’t die doing it. “Wow, Pearl, you actually did it,” Martyn said. “How do you feel now?” “I feel amazing!” Pearl exclaimed. “Okay, that’s great and all, but why did you name your sword ‘question mark question mark question mark’?” Ren asked.
”What-? I didn’t…” Pearl pulled out her communicator and checked the older messages. Sure enough,
Smajor1995 was slain by PearlescentMoon using [???]
was right there. “It was just a regular diamond sword I made, I never named it… hell, I never even made an anvil! What-?” Pearl began to study her sword. “I mean, it is kinda weird that I managed to stab straight through his diamond chestplate in one try, but…”
”There’s black magic afoot,” Ren declared. “That’s the only reason something like this could’ve happened.”
”We’re all demons, Ren. Of course there’s black magic afoot,” Pearl deadpanned. “Anyway, you have any ideas on how to get revenge on Grian in a way that won’t make him blow my house up?”
”Actually, yes,” Ren replied. “This might be a little crazy, but… what if we told Scar? About what Grian’s been doing, I mean. Convince him to join us.” “That isn’t a bad idea,” Martyn commented. “We could use someone like him on our team.”
”He’s the one who taught me about the powdered snow and helped me torture Scott. I agree, we should take him in. If he wants to, that is,” Pearl agreed. “So, it’s settled then. It’s revenge time!” Ren cheered.
As soon as the demon trio found Scar, he cheerfully waved at them. “Hi there, guys! Would you like to step inside my (newly renovated) Jellie-panda sanctuary? You see, we’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to the lives of these beautiful creatures, and-” “Maybe later, Scar,” Martyn replied. “We have something we need to make you aware of.”
Scar blinked in confusion. “So you aren’t here for the Jellie-pandas?” “No, we’re here for you,” Martyn repeated. “Oh! Okay, come, sit down, tell me what you need to, love the wings by the way, can you fly with those? Not important. Just lemme know what it is you want me to know.” Scar sat down, expectantly waiting on the answer, a cheery smile on his face, and the three demons began to regret deciding to tell him.
But Scar deserved to know. “I don’t know if I can fly with these, actually,” Pearl replied, stalling. “Stop stalling,” Ren hissed. “That’s not what we’re here to tell him.” “Okay, okay! Why do I have to do it? It was your idea!” Pearl harshly whispered back. “You… have a point,” Ren admitted.
“Listen, Scar, I know this might be hard to process, but-” Ren proceeded to be cut off by Scar. “Oh, hey! Grian’s back! Hey Grian!”
Ren immediately froze up. “What do we do?!” he whispered harshly. “I don’t know! We didn’t plan for this!” Martyn whispered back. “I think it might work out in our favour. Look,” Pearl whispered, pointing at Grian.
Grian just so happened to have brought BigB to basically the gates to the base, and said goodbye to him with a… secret handshake? Wow, these guys were not being subtle at all.
“What was that?” Scar asked, approaching Grian. “SCAR!” Grian yelled in surprise. “I- wh- don’t- WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?!” “I was out in the Jellie-panda sanctuary with Ren and Martyn and Pearl,” Scar responded. “But you didn’t answer my question.”
”Uhh- that was nothing!” Grian insisted. “Oh? So a red name can just walk you home now and do a secret handshake with you and it’ll be ‘nothing’? I know you may think I’m some oblivious guy who can’t see the signs, but it’s clear to me now,” Scar’s voice faltered a bit near the end of that statement. “You never cared about me, did you? You’re just keeping me safe to keep yourself alive.”
”No! I’m not, I just- Scar, you can’t leave with them!” Grian pleaded, running after his soulmate. “They’re bringers of death! I’m your soulmate, Scar, you can’t-”
But it was too late. Scar had already begun to leave with the three demons. Grian fell to his knees, devastated. “What have I done?”
Ren walked up to Grian, who looked like he was about to cry. “You take my soulmate… I take yours,” he simply said. “Just be glad I didn’t take your life instead.”
”Apologies for quoting Scar, but… once I turn red, Ren? You’re on my list,” Grian responded, a heartbroken tone in his voice. “Bold of you to assume I’ll even make it that far. I’m already red, Grian,” Ren replied, before running off towards the other members of the Broken Hearts Club.
”Is this what Pearl felt like?” Grian whispered to himself, voice faltering.
Up in Pearl’s house…
”Nice place you have here,” Scar commented. “Aww, thanks! Built it all by myself, no help from any soulmates,” Pearl replied. “So… all of you have been broken up with?” Scar asked. “Yeah. We’re the Broken Hearts club. But we don’t have soulmates anymore,” Martyn explained.
Scar nodded, before placing a pile of powdered snow on the ground. “Mind if I chill in there for a bit?” “Not at all,” Pearl responded. “Nice pun, too.”
Scar smiled at the demoness. “I try.” He then hopped into the pile of powdered snow and began shivering.
About half an hour later of on-and-off powdered snow action, Martyn began to grow concerned. “Scar, you’re turning blue,” he said. “Really? That explains a lot,” Scar replied, shivering in the snow-pile. “You do know that there’s a better way to do this, right?” Ren asked.
”Yeah, cactus, but we don’t have any,” Scar answered. “No. Drink this.” Ren handed a bottle of reddish-pink liquid to Scar, who drank it. “Now get out of the snow,” Ren instructed. Scar did, and was sent into a mass amount of pain. He was eventually knocked down to one half heart of health, and then regained it all.
”Wow, that really was effective! What was in it?” Scar asked. “That was just a regular potion of health, actually. It broke your bond with Grian. You’re free now, just like we are,” Pearl replied.
”Thanks, you guys. For everything.” Scar smiled at the three demons. “I feel a lot better now.”
