A quirk's quirk

Summary:

Watching the videos from Deika city and the crushing of the Meta Liberation Army, Izuku realised something potentially disastrous about the correlation between the new aspect of Toga's quirk, and his own.

Work Text:

Izuku sat and watched the screen with eagle eyes.

The footage from Deika city had just been accessed and sent to UA for inspection and to help show the kids what exactly they were dealing with. To help them understand and prepare for what awaits them when they graduate. A horrid view of death, destructions and NDAs.

It had gone from bad to worse to diabolical, and the more he watched it, the worse the sinking feeling in his stomach had gotten. Every time he did, he had several pages of notes on different things he noticed. Twice doubles and his sudden ability to create doubles of himself. Shigaraki's ability to dust things in a certain radius. Dabi and his resemblance to several certain people. All the quirks and abilities that have been trained and were incredible of the Liberation Army.

The commission had gotten so desperate for help and analysis that they had sent the files of the footage to the top hero schools for the support and hero students to help with. So far, only Izuku had looked past the images of hell and destruction and managed to get anything helpful down. Had had years of practice for analysis while under pressure. The rest of the class, bar one over competitive blond, had called it on the last viewing - it had been a long day of watching this, and some people didn't have the mental strength to keep on at it again and again.

Izuku just wondered at what damage his father had done to his student to make him work this hard, to make him break himself down that much just to win at his goals. Before looking at himself, and what All for One had done to him, and had kept quiet about this small and sorrowful piece of shared childhood trauma.

Glancing over to Kacchan's desk, the only other person even the little bit interested in analysing the video, Izuku watched him write for a few moments. Izuku stared at the increasingly angry blind, remembering the times in the last couple of weeks, revelling in the fact that Kacchan had sat down and asked him to teach him how to analyse. He wasn't very good practice at it, not like Izuku was. Didn't have the word vomit gene that allowed Izuku such spiralling and wide-reaching pages of notes. His style was more succinct, shorter, with less detail but much easier to manage and read.

"DEKU! STOP FUCKING STARING AT ME." Kacchan shouted. Izuku should have anticipated it, he was staring after all.

"Uh, sorry Kacchan! I'm just amazed at how quickly you took the analysis up! I'm uh going to watch the screen now."

And as Izuku turned to watch the screen, the one which held the fight which Toga Himiko was losing very badly in. Especially after the distraction of Twice. He winced at the sudden visage of his friend taking up the screen. A wide-eyed and crazed look in Ochako's eyes, that he found both distasteful and untrustworthy. It was far from his best friend, and far from anything he had seen from the normally fairly well-adjusted, albeit very insane, teen.

Looking closer at the screen, this was a part of the video that he had not quite watched often. He had preferred to watch Twice's desperate fight or the woman who could create bombs out of objects.

Often peaking out the corner of his eyes when that part came up always ended up with Izuku having to swallow down giggles at Kacchan's face. Carpet bomb woman was securely on Kacchan's howitzer impact list.

Not this time.

This time he noticed the soft pink glow out of Toga's fingerprints, and the floating bodies - something he had taken as a meta's users quirk. Or even from the carpet bomb women herself.

Not from Toga.

This - this was incredible, this was terrible. If Toga could theoretically use the quirk of a person that she had taken the visage of, if she could theoretically use every aspect of that quirk, and every drawback then that was bad very bad. It fully settled into his bones that this might in fact be something to worry about, at the very often seen green tinge come up on Ochako's fake face.

"Kacchan, Sensei, does Togo have any of my blood." Izuku asked hands trembling in his lap, his pen forgotten on the page, watching the carnage Toga reap. "I really need to know if she has any of my blood."

"What was that Problem child?" Aizawa asked, pausing the video. "Did you have a question?"

"Toga just used Ochako's quirk." Izuku said plainly, "and then she threw up. I asked if she has any of my blood."

Aizawa was looking at him as if he had grown another head and was speaking Spanish to him, and Katsuki was looking at him as if he were now number one on the howitzer impact list. Aizawa sighed, and went to play the video again, "I think that you would know better about that Midoriya, but to my memory then yes, I do remember you saying that you think she does. Can we get back to this, we are finally getting somewhere and the commission is getting anxious about information."

"I need to go." Izuku said swiping his notes and pens into his bag and hurrying past Kacchan. "Kacchan, if she could theoretically use quirks of the people she turns into, the I don't have to PASS you any more knowledge. ONE of which she would be able to do FOR herself would be able to use ALL quirks. I just really need to go."

"Hey, problem children don't talk in code like I am not in the room. Midoriya get back into your seat." Aizawa said standing up, and as he reached the door just behind Izuku his phone started ringing the ratatouille theme tune, which Izuku knew was Nedzu's contact numbers phone tone. Rushing off he was relieved that the message had gone to someone, and from the look in Kacchan's eyes he was working it out.

He needed to hurry to get to All Might, they had to know if All for One already had One for All. If Toga could use all parts of the quirk she was given then it would not be a jump to assume, that the merged and passable quirk of One for All was something she could pass on. If she already had, then his father's capture and imprisonment in Tartarus - a place full of dangerous and powerful quirks - was all a sham. The power of All for One and One for All was too strong to be held in that prison.

If that was the case, he would have to once again, put to question the use of the quirk erasing bullet from the Shi Hassakai. But for now, all he needed to do was tell All Might. It is most likely that she hadn't even realised she had that ability, but as Izuku ran the halls of UA, that desperate hope felt far too desperate to hold any stock in.

Father was clever like that.

Notes:

luckily no this had not been explored by All for One, he was considering creating opportunities for this to come out from Toga before his imprisonment, but he never got the time. So One for All was safe and not doubled. He was also hesitant to take a - what in his mind might be - a cheapened version of the quirk. Considering that in theory this would be both from and not from the first user. Also he was proud if not annoyed that Izuku had gotten the quirk.

Like quirks he liked fighting to stay in the family.
