The Pool Date

Summary:

Kim and Ondine are scheduled to have a pool date, but one of them doesn't quite understand what that means.

Work Text:

Oh no.

Oh no, no, no, no, no.

Kim had done it again!

He hadn't mean to!

It was just that Ondine had asked him to meet her at the pool for a swim date and he had thought she meant an actual pool date where they would, you know, swim! But he hadn’t realized that she meant that they’d be having a date by the pool, not in it. So he had worn his swim trunks and hat and had immediately jumped into the pool upon arriving, soaking Ondine in her beautiful dress and the picnic she had prepared and set up all by herself.

Kim felt so bad.

She had assured him that it was okay and that she should’ve been more specific before walking off to the restroom to dry off.

He had assumed all was well… until she didn’t come back. By the time he’d gone to check on him, Ondine was gone and he could hear screams coming from outside the gym. When he got outside, he was shocked to see a thirty foot version of Ondine crying as she sat in the middle of the street, big teardrops falling from her eyes. What was scary was that whenever a drop hit the ground, it exploded into a huge wave of water. Those waves were quickly building up and causing the streets to flood over.

People were screaming and escaping into nearby buildings and Kim could see others on the rooftops already, hoping to find high ground away from the akuma.

Oh crap.

Kim knew he had caused this. He had not meant to but it was all his fault!

Crap! Why did he have to be so stupid?! Anyone else would have understood the meaning behind the texts and would have concluded it would be a normal date! But not him! He just had to be a silly fish that only thought with his gills! Now his girlfriend was crying and all of Paris was in danger!

He had to fix it.

“Ondine!” Kim shouted as he ran toward his giant girlfriend. “Ondine! I’m here! I’m sorry!”

Despite him shouting as loud as he could, she couldn’t seem to hear him. Instead, her tears trailed down her cheeks faster, creating bigger and faster waves.

“Ondine!” He tried again. Just as it looked like she’d heard him, Kim was hit in the face by a massive wave. It knocked the air from his lungs and, even being the awesome swimmer that he was, it was hard for him to get his bearings as he suddenly found himself floundering underwater.

For a few moments, he was worried that he was a goner and he took a few moments to chuckle inwardly about the irony before panic set in and he started to push against the water. He felt as if he was going nowhere even as the water moved around him. His arms were tiring and he was starting to feel light headed. With the way his lungs were screaming for air and his heart was thumping wildly, he knew there wasn’t much left in his tank.

He was going to drown.

But he couldn’t drown here… he couldn’t! He had to go apologize to Ondine!

However, his arms stopped moving and he felt himself sinking beneath the waves… until a flash of black and green flew across his vision and he felt arms wrapping around him.

“I got you, Kim. Now breathe.” A voice said and Kim felt something cold and metallic pressed against his mouth. Much needed air filled his lungs and he felt his body cry out in relief.

Forcing his eyes open, Kim was so happy to see Chat Noir, better known as Aqua Noir in this power up, smiling at him. “I-”

Chat shook his head. “Don’t speak. We’re still underwater and you need to focus on getting some air in your body… and probably resting.”

Kim nodded and let his body slump against the hero’s.

The water rushed around them as Aqua Chat maneuvered through the flooded streets. Kim absently wondered where they were going and why they didn’t immediately go to Ondine to fix his mistake.

They finally shot out of the water and landed on the roof of the Montparnasse Tower, high above the waves.

Kim blinked a couple of times and was amazed by the sheer amount of destruction that had been caused. However, there was also this sort of beauty in seeing the drowned city. The way the sun shone bright on water so clear one could see far into its depths.

It wasn’t until he heard a soft sob echoing from the distance that he remembered why the city was drowning and how it was all his fault.

Turning, he spotted Aquabug and Aqua Noir chatting and game planning. It seemed she had already called for her lucky charm and was waving a dictionary in the air.

“What the heck am I supposed to do with this?!” She emphasized, smacking it with her hand.

“I don’t know. I wish it would’ve been a thesaurus instead, then we could’ve found some alternative ways to figure this out.”

Ladybug rolled her eyes. “That was the worst one yet.” She groaned before smirking. “Maybe we can look up the word funny for you.”

Chat put a hand over his heart. “You wound me, Milady. Maybe we just don’t speak the same language because I’m very funny.”

Kim smiled at the interaction before something clicked in his head.

‘Maybe we don’t speak the same language’

That was it!

“Ladybug! I know what to do!” He shouted, startling the heroes that had most likely forgotten he was there.

“Kim? Are you sure? It’s-” Chat started but Ladybug shook her head.

“I think he might know. I get the feeling he’s part of the solution.” Ladybug said before walking over to him and handing him the dictionary. “Let’s try your idea out.”

Ten minutes later, Chat dropped Kim off on a rooftop close to the crying akuma. Kim was near enough that he could touch her and it seemed that she didn’t even realized he was there.

“Ondine.” He whispered and then spoke a little louder when she didn’t respond. “Ondine! I’m sorry!”

Slowly, she looked up at him. “K-Kim? Wh-What?”

“I’m sorry about our date! I didn’t realize you meant an actual date-date and not a swim date! I’m so sorry I ruined it, but I know how to fix it!”

Her head tilted and the tears slowed. “Fix it?”

“Here!” He held out the amended dictionary and her big fingers grabbed it and pulled it to her face.

“Kim’s Dictionary?” She questioned.

“Yeah! It’s for you to fill out for me! Sometimes I speak a totally different language than everyone else but with that it’ll help me to not be a total idiot!”

The tears stopped completely and a small smile graced her face. “Oh Kim!”

Before anything else could happen, Kim saw Chat dive into the water out of the corner of his eye. A second later, purple bubbles surrounded Ondine and she dropped into the water. Kim was worried, but a purple butterfly flew into the air only to be caught by Ladybug.

“Miraculous Ladybug!”

Ladybugs swept through the air and Kim found himself back on the ground next to Ondine, who he immediately pulled into his arms.

“I’m so sorry!”  He whispered into her ear. “I’m gonna make all of this up to you! Right now! We’ll both go home, change into something nice, and then I’ll take you out on a nice date. A date that has nothing to do with water, okay?”

Smiling widely, she nodded. “Okay, I’d like that!”

Watching the two lovebirds run off, Chat Noir and Ladybug smiled at each other before bumping fists.

“Pound it!”
