Work Text:
“I hope you know we had everything
And you broke me and left these pieces”
Luka was a chill guy who loved things fully and wholeheartedly. However, there were four things he loved the most.
First, he loved helping people. Living on a ship his whole life had given him a community first outlook on life so he wanted to help those around him so that they’d be happy and prosper.
It was his purpose in life.
Second was music. Music was something that needed no translation. No matter the language the person spoke or the vast different identities they had, music could speak to anyone if they listened to it, even animals. If he could reach someone with the music he wrote or by music he heard in their heart, it was a good day.
Third was his family. He loved his mom and his sister. They were the most important women in his life. His mom was a single, hard working mother who never let anything get her down. She was also working and always encouraging them to follow their dreams! And Juleka was just the sweetest sister anyone could ever hope for.
Last was Marinette. From the moment he laid eyes on her, his heart decided that she was the one for him. Nothing his brain or music said could deter him.
So he put himself out there. He made sure she knew that he was there for her! Even though, in all honesty, he would be there for her without being in love with her. He made sure that she knew what he thought of her. He made sure she knew that she could always come and talk to him and that he would never judge or pressure her.
It seemed to have worked when Marinette kissed him one day after sharing some ice cream.
And things were perfect… until they weren’t.
Due to whatever stress was going on in her life, she broke up with him. She said that she needed to focus on herself and find out who she was before they could truly give it a shot. She wanted to give her all to him when it was time, not just this stressed mess.
But then… why was still fawning over Adrien?
Luka got it.
Adrien was her first love and it was hard to get past a first love- Luka knew this personally- but why couldn’t she have just told him the truth? Why did she say that she wanted to give her all to him, getting his hopes up, if all she wanted was to be with Adrien?
Instead of focusing on that, Luka calmed himself.
It didn’t matter. She was free to do what she wanted even if it hurt to know that she lied to him. It was a mistake and we all made mistakes and it shouldn’t be held against her. She didn’t have to be with him or reciprocate his feelings. He’d be happy to just see her happy and if that was with Adrien, then it was okay.
But why did he feel as if his heart had been shattered into a million little pieces?
Juleka was calm and she was quiet. It was hard getting a rise out of her because she knew that things happened for a reason and there was no reason to fight the tides of fate. It was something instilled in her from a young age. She was comfortable with sitting in the background watching as things happened around her and letting them happen.
However.
Most of that went out the window when anyone hurt her brother.
Luka was the kindest person on the planet. He was always helping others from old women struggling to carry groceries to beggars on the street to strangers having emotional crises along the Seine. He was there for anyone who needed someone in whatever way they needed him.
He was just so… good and the world didn’t deserve him!
Marinette didn’t deserve him.
Now Juleka loved Marinette. She loved getting to know her and being her friend because Marinette reminded her of Luka. She was always ready to help someone in need no matter what. She was kind and caring.
But.
But Marinette, like anyone, was flawed and that flaw was named Adrien.
When it came to love, he was all she saw, all she cared about. No one else held a flame that came close to burning as bright as his. That’s what Juleka believed at first until she saw Marinette and Luka together for the first time.
It was like watching two magnets come together.
She knew he was in love and she could see that Marinette was fascinated and torn. It was cute and worrisome all at the same time because Juleka knew the depths of Marinette’s feelings for Adrien and she did not want to see her big brother get hurt.
Which is exactly what she said to Marinette after she invited Luka to go ice skating.
“What? I’m not going to hurt him. This isn’t a date-date. This is just friends hanging out. Don’t worry, Juleka. I won’t hurt him.”
Despite knowing that she meant what she said, Juleka was still unsure about things. Her uncertainty only grew when the two began dating.
But it honestly seemed like Marinette only had eyes for her brother at that time. She was less clumsy around Adrien, their girl nights were actually girl nights where he wasn’t the subject, and their other friends weren’t always concocting ways to get the two together.
Juleka was finally able to relax and begin to hope that the happiness that was constantly showing on Luka’s face would last.
It didn’t.
One night, Juleka woke to the sounds of Luka crying into his pillow. Turning over, she quietly opened her eyes and saw him looking at the drawing she’d made of his Kitty Section outfit and she immediately realized what happened even without the specifics.
Marinette had broken his heart.
Luka didn’t say anything, which was annoying and exactly what he would do. He was about helping people but never asked for help when it came to himself, but seeing how Marinette’s behavior regressed back to how she’d been before it was clear to her.
If that hadn’t been enough, the sad, dull eyes Luka sported no matter where he went spoke volumes.
Marinette had broken her brother and now he was in pieces and she didn’t seem to care at all.
Juleka tried to remain calm and friendly. She really did. But upon seeing the way Marinette acted as if nothing had happened- gushing over Adrien and not even telling Juleka herself that they’d broken up- infuriated her so much.
It all reached its boiling point the day all their friends had excitedly giggled and whispered about how to get Marinette and Adrien together in some weird way that included the boat and hadn’t even stopped to think about how Luka would feel or how she would feel.
The rage boiled inside of her and she sat back on the bed, fighting the urge to blow up on them that very second.
None of them deserved Luka’s kindness.
None of them!
No one noticed the purple mask over Juleka’s face until it was too late.
The Invisible Revenger destroyed the world and made it into a place that did deserve him.
