Mom

Summary:

Even though Wolf didn't want to admit it, she missed her former wolf-family. She never wanted it to end like it did, but at least she has a new family who can help her pick up the pieces.

Notes:

Some fluff cause I need it and we need more fics of Wolf and Song 😄

Work Text:

It all felt so real, though Wof was aware that it was just a dream. Or rather, some sort of a memory.

A little five year old girl sat on the lap of her mama. A wolf. The girl was held tightly by her in a warm hug. She loved those moments. She always felt so loved. The young girl took a deep breath, feeling her mama's scent. It always made her feel safe when she wasn't feeling good.

Only a few minutes before, she girl had been crying from scraping her knee when she play fighted with her brothers who had just come to accept her as a member of the pack. A furry hand with claws had managed to draw blood on her knee, and the girl had burst out into crying.

She had been comforted by her mama, and now she was calm and happy again. The little girl rested her head on her mama's shoulder before she closed her eyes for a few seconds, a smile on her lips.

But when she opened her eyes and looked back up at the mother wolf, she was met with a hungry grin and evil eyes that stared at her. The little girl squirmed for a bit, feeling fear seep though her body.

"M-mama? What are you doing?" the child asked in panic as she felt her mama's claws press into her skin, drawing blood that stained her white shirt.

"I've got you right where I want you. It's time for you to die." the wolf growled, barring her teeth before she attacked and the whole world went black.

~~~
Wolf jerked up from her soft bed with a gasp. She was wet in sweat and she felt tears pouring down from her eyes. Repeating the scenes from her dream had the ten year old girl let out a sob, trying to wipe away the tears though they didn't want to stop flowing.
She let out another sob and curled up into a fetal position to cry into her pajama covered knees. She didn't usually cry by a nightmare. She might get shaken up, but she would usually ignore it and just stay up for the rest of the night to remind herself that she wasn't back there. With them...
But this time, she WANTED to be back with them. She missed making flower bracelets with Margot, playfighting with her brothers, be taught how to survive without a house to protect you by papa and cuddle with mama.
But none of that was true, it was always fake and they never actually cared about her. She had just been a toy for them. A toy they could just throw away when the time was ready.
That fact had Wolf let out another loud sob as her tears doubled and started dripping down on her clothes. Her breathing picked up too and she felt herself hyperventilating. She hoped that she hadn't woken anyone up. She didn't want anyone else in her family to see her like this, but of course, that wasn't the case.
~~~

Song awole from her sleep by the sounds of sobbing in the room beside hers that she and Lio shared. The sobs came from Wolf's room and Song quickly grew worried. Getting up from her bed to check on the child, she opened the door and walked over to Wolf's room. Wolf was the one sobbing and Song frowned as she saw the way Wolf had curled up into a ball, arms wrapped around her knees.

When the door opened to reveal Song standing in the doorway, Wolf looked up with tears streaming down her face as her sobs shook her whole body from the force. Song rushed up to her daughter and wrapped her arms around the shaking child. The sobs leaving Wolf's mouth broke Song's heart and she wanted to nothing else but hold Wolf close in her arsm and take all of her fears and bad stuff away.

"Shhhh, it's okay, honey. Everything's okay, mom's here." Song whispered, running her soft hand through Wolf's thick hair softly to not hurt the young girl.

Wolf continued sobbing but let herself be held by her mom which gave her a sense of comfort. She just wanted her nightmares to go away, but they wouldn’t.

"Talk to me, Wolf. I'm here for you and I'm listening." Song continued to whisper, rocking the child softly back and forth in her arms.

"I- I miss m-mama..." Wolf sobbed and Song immediately realized who Wolf talked about.

She knew Wolf's backstory, and the young girl had revealed a few other stuff that she hadn't told Kipo or Benson back when they were on the surface. Song had been the first to hear about what Wolf had called her former family, and her former adoptive wolf-parents had been called mama and papa.

Song and Lio was either called by their names, or mom and dad when Wolf felt vulnerable or wanted something from them, like attention or love. Song knew how painful it must have been for Wolf to lose her former family just like that without getting an explanation as to why they didn't want her. It had left a whole in Wolf's heart and Song had done her best to repair it during their time together.

To see Wolf crying like this for her former mom gave Song the idea that the child must have had a nightmare about her. It was hard for a child to be separated from someone they love, and Wolf had only been five years old who never actually healed from the trauma. She had just now started therapy and talking with her family about it all, and Song knew that it would take time before Wolf could fully accept her past for what it was ans move on.

The wolf-pelt that was the last remaining thing from the wolf-mom had been thrown away and Wolf now had nothing to give her comfort when she remembered her time with the wolves. Song decided to actually become the mom Wolf needed and wanted.

"Oh, I know, baby. I know you miss her. Mom's here, I'll take care of you, alright?" Song cooed, pressing a kiss to Wolf's sweaty forehead which had Wolf trying to cuddle closer to her mom.

She just wanted comfort.

As Wolf sobbed into Song's shoulder while she held onto the older woman with all her might, Song hummed the What We Have Is You melody. Wolf's tears slowly stopped until she was just sniffling every now and then. Song pressed another kiss to Wolf's forehead and whispered 'everything is going to be okay, I've got you' a few times.

After a while of rocking, humming and cuddling, Wolf's eyes closed and Song guessed that the child had fallen asleep. Song stood up with Wolf in her arms and moved to lie her back down and ruck her in when Wolf let out a whine and clutched Song's pajama shirt in her eyes, not wanting to be put down. Song took a deep breath and held Wolf close to her one again.

Since Wolf obviously didn't want to be alone after her nightmare, Song decided to let her daughter sleep in her bed with Lio for the night. She didn't have the heart to leave Wolf by herself when she obviously was feeling scared and anxious. Wolf was laid between Song and Lio, cuddled close to the both of them. Song wrapped her up into her arms and placed a kiss to Wolf's cheek. Wolf turned around to meet Song's eyes and a tiny smile made itself known on Wolf's face.

"I love you, mom." Wolf whispered tiredly before her eyes closed and she let out a deep breath as she fell asleep, her whole body relaxing in Song's arms.

Song smiled as tears grew in her eyes. It was the first time Wolf had said those words and it had Song's heart melting. She loved to be the mom of the young girl and she would do anything she could to keep that child safe.
