Chapter Text
She awoke with a gasp, silverware falling onto the floor with a thunderous twang.
The startling sound helped her wake up somewhat faster but not fast enough for her to get her bearings together.
What happened? The last thing she could vaguely remember was that she closed a door on the girl in white and was afterwards chased by the Pretender, who somehow had managed to find her,and after she had run into a dead end that she was knocked unconscious.
She slowly pried her eyes open, groaning as the rays of light pierced into her eyes like a dagger's point and was greeted with a horrifying sight.
She sat at the end of a long table, dolls neatly and orderly sitting on each side of it,with the Pretender sitting on the other edge.
She was currently busy with smearing a '𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨' amount of rouge on her cheeks and watching herself in the tiny handheld mirror.
The raincoat clad girl shuffled in her seat before attempting to jump up and sprint off.
"Attempting" as the second she started moving the Pretender started speaking
"Oh finally you're awake" she said and with a 'clap!' closed her pocket mirror.
Her voice was snooty, oddly high in pitch and had an unusual amount of pronunciation on every syllable.
The other girl assumed it was to sound authoritative or scolding but failed miserably in both and instead sounded like a bad parody of someone, the kind you would do when you think your boss is not listening.
"You dropped your cutlery, usually that would've been unacceptable in a household like mine but since you were-" a deeply annoyed and over the top sigh escaped her "busy otherwise i will let this go unpunished"
She sat up and placed her elbows onto table, fingers entwined "But if i catch you goof-" she recoiled visibly as if struck "-messing up then there will be consequences'".
There it was again, her "authoritative" tone in the last syllable.
The braided girl cautiously looked around herself, spotting the glimmer of doorknob behind her,if she could only distract her captor long enough so she could r-
The voice of the Pretender ripped her out of her thoughts "I wouldn't do that if i were you" she bared her teeth and cautiously eyed the reflective blade of the table knife in front of her before deciding that there was something that didn't belong there,so she grabbed a napkin, held it in front of mouth and fumbled with her other hand inside her mouth before being seeming pleased with herself.
"Where were we? Oh yes we were talking about your escape attempt weren't we? Let us just entertain ourselves with the idea of 𝘺𝘰𝘶-" a disgusted undertone colored the word "-distracting 𝘮𝘦 where would you run off to? I would catch you in no time and would be forced to…how would one say? End you? It doesn't matter what it is called let us just say it outright" she placed her hands back down onto the table and pushed herself a bit forwards
"My patience with you is running thin and it would be a shame if something were to happen to you"
She grabbed the white glove of her left hand and slowly pulled on each finger before pulling it off in a rough manner and grabbing a spare napkin with her ungloved hand. She watched with strange glee as it almost instantly disintegrated into gray mist which hung in the air before she blew it into her captive's direction.
"Understood? Now let me make you an offer, you dine with me and if you behave nicely i 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 even let you go" she looked at the girl in front of her expectively which made her hair bob in all strange manners.
The one spoken to quickly contemplated the offer.
Knowing her it probably is going to be the other "dinner guests" or some other absurdity but if she would really keep her promise and maybe even present actual food then this might be not that bad after all so she quickly and simply nodded, much to the annoyance of her "host".
"I know i didn't ask you a question directly but it is polite that you 𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘦𝘥" she had placed her elbows onto the table again and intertwined her,now double gloved, fingers against each other but her posture did not carry the same calm as the gesture should convey.
The girl quickly quipped a "Yes i would love to" which still wasn't what her captor wanted to hear but atleast her posture relaxed and her hands went down again.
"Marvelous" she said in an overjoyed manner and a large smile fell over her heavily made-up face.
"Then let's begin shall we?" she smiled and pointed in front of her.
It only now registered to the braided girl that there was something lying on the plate in front of her,on the first glance it seemed to be a steak which was 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 cooked, but on the second glance revealed itself to be a piece of wood beautifully crafted and lovingly painted with almost uncanny realism and an eye to detail.
It looked so real as a matter of fact that the girl could almost 𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘭 the meat and noticed how drool was beginning to build in her mouth.
"Oh i insist that you atleast try the house vintage if you're not hungry,it is quite an exquisite drop as i have heard" the Pretender said in a faux posh tone which, considering how her usual tone of voice seemed to be faux posh anyway, only underlaid the surreality of the scene unfolding right now.
The girl shrugged and grabbed the glass of wine in front of her.
Faintly remembering a thing she read in a tale long ago she placed the rim underneath her nose, sniffed its contents and then took a large sip and almost gagged.
It tasted like grape juice but something was off,it had a strange sour note almost like a green apple running through it, one that made the inside of your mouth shudder and tongue roll itself inward like a newspaper.
"Delicious" she managed to cough out and managed to suppress the shudder that tried to shake her to the core.
She ignored the set phrase that came from her white haired host, not because she didn't care what she said,in a situation like this you should definitely listen to every word the other says, but because something or rather 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 happened.
