“Why are we here again?” Shiho asked.
Shinichi glanced at his girlfriend. The two of them had just entered the grounds of Ekoda High School, where a school festival was being held. Shiho hadn’t exactly been excited about the event, but she’d accepted Shinichi’s proposal to go there for reasons Shinichi didn’t quite understand. They had been there for under ten minutes, and Shiho already seemed bored.
“Because Ran and the girls have a friend that goes here,” Shinichi stated uninterestedly. “Nakamori Aoko-san.”
Shiho raised an eyebrow. “Nakamori-keibu’s daughter, I’m assuming?”
Shinichi nodded. “Yeah.”
“Good for you,” Shiho said. “Now you can ask her all about your favorite thief and that handsome detective.”
Shinichi glowered at her. “You have feelings for Hakuba too, you know.”
“I know,” Shiho said pleasantly, a smirk on her face as she headed towards the designated meeting spot Ran had set. “But I’m not crushing on the thief. You are.”
Shinichi groaned and followed her. The two made their way through the crowd until finally, they stood at the meeting spot: a shady corner of the school. Ran, Sonoko, and Masumi were already there. Shinichi and Shiho slid in next to them. “Where are the others?”
Ran put her phone in her pocket with a sigh. “Hattori-kun and Kazuha-chan are running late, but they should be here in a few minutes,” she said. “Aoko-chan and her friends got dragged into finishing decorations for their classroom, but they should be here soon too.”
Sonoko shot a look at Masumi. “Sera-chan thinks that the Osaka couple are going to arrive first,” she said flatly, acid seeming to drip out of her voice. “I think that Aoko-chan is coming here first, though.”
“I don’t know about that,” Masumi said thoughtfully. “We’ll see.” She grinned. “But if I’m right, you owe me money.”
“Like you’d be right,” Sonoko muttered, looking down.
Ran chuckled a little before turning back to Shinichi and Shiho. “I hope you guys will have fun meeting Aoko-chan and her friends,” she said. “But I think you’ve already met one of them…”
Shinichi stared at her in surprise. “Huh? Who?”
But before she could answer, a cry of “Kudo!” interrupted them. Feeling slightly annoyed, Shinichi turned to see Heiji and Kazuha running at them, Heiji having been the one to have shouted. Heiji stopped in front of Shinichi, a grin on his face, while Kazuha ran past him to the girls. “How are ya doing?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Shinichi noticed Sonoko begrudgingly slip Masumi 100 dollars.
“I’m doing fine,” Shinichi responded. “What about you?”
“Doing great!” Heiji was still grinning. He turned to Shiho. “Ah, the big neechan! How ya doing?”
“Fine,” Shiho said curtly.
Heiji paused, glancing around, before leaning in. “I heard ya two were… ya know…”
“Dating?” Shinichi asked. “It’s not exactly a secret, Hattori.”
Heiji laughed nervously, pulling away. “I… I see.” He glanced at Kazuha with a fond smile, before that smile quickly became annoying once he looked back at Shinichi. “So I got together with Kazuha before ya got together with the big neechan!”
“You win,” Shinichi sighed.
“Hell yeah I did!”
As the two were talking, Shiho had turned away from them, and now she tapped Shinichi’s shoulder urgently. Shinichi whipped around to the direction Shiho was facing, and then he, too, froze in surprise.
A group of five people were making their way towards them. At the front stood a girl with messy hair, but she otherwise resembled Ran. Close to her were a girl with pigtails and a beautiful girl with long hair. But it was the boys in the group that really caught Shinichi’s attention.
One of them was clearly Hakuba Saguru, the detective he and Shiho had both been crushing on recently. And next to him was a boy with messy hair who resembled Kaitou Kid, the other man Shinichi had feelings for.
He swallowed. This is bad.
“Ran-chan, Sonoko-chan, Sera-chan!” The girl at the front called out, running over.
“Aoko-chan!” Ran called back, embracing the girl in a hug.
Aoko pulled back after a bit, a grin on her face. “Introduce us to your friends, will you?”
Ran nodded. “Of course! I’m Mouri Ran, these are Suzuki Sonoko, Sera Masumi, Toyama Kazuha, Hattori Heiji, Kudo Shinichi, and Miyano Shiho.”
“I’m Nakamori Aoko, and my friends are Momoi Keiko, Koizumi Akako, Hakuba Saguru, and Kuroba Kaito.”
“Nice to meet all of you!” Kazuha said, smiling, and everyone else followed her lead.
Shinichi felt his eyes drawn to Saguru and Kaito. Kaito’s gaze flicked towards him and they met for just a moment before Kaito looked away, a faint blush on his face. Saguru met Shinichi’s gaze evenly though, and pulled away from the group to come over to Shinichi and Shiho, a polite smile on his face. Huffing, Kaito joined Saguru.
“I’m surprised to see you here, Kudo-kun, Miyano-san,” Saguru started.
“Dumbass,” Kaito muttered.
“I’m surprised to see you too,” Shinichi admitted. He looked at Kaito. “Especially you.”
Kaito froze, then laughed nervously and said, “I don’t know you at all.”
“I believe we do know each other,” Shinichi countered.
“Are you referring to the fact that he’s Kid?” Saguru questioned. Kaito spluttered and made hand motions at him, and Saguru sighed. “I mean, the theory that he’s Kid?”
“I am,” Shinichi said. “You suspect him too?”
“I’m afraid I can’t answer that question,” Saguru said. “Especially since I know the answer. Kaito and I are dating, so he tells me everything.”
Shinichi froze. Looking at Shiho, who had been silent the whole conversation, he saw that same expression of shock on her face as well. However, she recovered first. “I’m pleased to hear it,” she said.
“Thank you.” Saguru smiled pleasantly.
“Do you guys want a tour?” Kaito asked, glancing at Shinichi and holding his gaze almost a second too long. “Saguru and I will gladly take you on one.”
Shinichi paused, glancing at Shiho. She nodded, so he turned back to them. “Sure.”
The four of them had separated from the larger group and gone on their tour, and now they were eating at a cafe some of the students had set up for the festival.
Despite the peaceful scene, Kaito still felt like he was panicking. He knew that Aoko’s friends were coming over and bringing some of their own friends as well, but he never expected Kudo Shinichi. Kudo Shinichi, who Kaito admittedly had feelings for, despite the fact that he was already dating Saguru. But it worked out, he supposed, since Saguru also had feelings for Shinichi and Shinichi’s girlfriend Shiho. Kaito himself didn’t have feelings for Shiho, being gay, but she was someone Kaito was interested in getting to know.
The question was, would the two of them be willing to join Saguru and Kaito’s relationship?
Kaito felt like the answer was no.
Did Shinichi like him back? Did Shinichi like Saguru back? Did Shiho like Saguru back? All these questions were running through Kaito’s head as the four of them ate and drank. Coffee for Kaito, Shinichi, and Shiho, and tea for Saguru. Kaito kept nervously glancing at Shinichi and Shiho, and soon, Saguru noticed. Leaning in towards Kaito’s ear, the British detective whispered, “Are you nervous about their presence?”
“Yeah,” Kaito admitted grudgingly.
“It’s your fault they’re here with us,” Saguru pointed out. “You invited them on this tour.”
“Maybe I’m regretting my decision,” Kaito muttered.
“What are you two whispering about?” Shiho’s voice broke through their thoughts, and they both turned to see her giving them an unimpressed look.
“Ah, nothing, really…” Saguru trailed off.
“I’m not really a fan of being talked about behind my back,” Shiho said, her eyes narrowed. “So if either Shinichi or I were the topic in your discussion, I advise that you spill it.”
Kaito swallowed nervously and looked at Saguru, who seemed to be struggling to find the right words to use in this situation. Glancing at the other side of the table, Kaito saw that Shinichi was staring at them too. This is bad…
“We… were… talking about you,” Saguru said slowly. Based on his facial expression, he seemed to be in pain. “But nothing bad about you,” he added quickly.
Kaito took a deep breath in and out, staring at the other two, then quickly said, “We’d like to date you guys.” When they all stared at him in shock, he added on, “Well, I’d like to date Kudo, and Saguru would like to date Kudo and Miyano-san, and I’m really not helping here, am I.”
All Shiho said was, “Oh? And you don’t want to date me?”
Kaito’s eyes widened. “I’m sorry! It’s just, I’m gay, so-”
A small smile appeared on Shiho’s face. “Don’t worry,” she said simply. “I’m just teasing. I don’t have feelings for you either. Besides, it’s quite obvious that you are homosexual.” She paused. “Or homoromantic. I have no idea whether you are asexual or not.”
Kaito stared at her, flustered, but Shinichi said, “What she means is, we’d like to date you too.” He smiled lightly. “Ah, well, this was unexpected…”
Saguru and Kaito glanced at each other, then smiled. “It really was,” Kaito admitted.
