Summary
Papyrus hadn't been worried! ...Well. Maybe he had been, just a bit.
It'd been a while since anyone had heard from the human, so he called to check on them. But when a conversation revealed just how young they were, he realized things had to change. They were all on their own down here. And... They had nowhere to go.
Well! If there was no one else to take care of the baby bones, Papyrus would just have to do it himself!
—
Sans was trying to get through life and ignore the apathy that had settled over him for Papyrus’s sake. It was just so hard to care about anything when he knew none of it mattered. But when Papyrus had him bring the anomaly home like a lost puppy, things stopped adding up.
How could such a sweet kid be responsible for the relentless time loops?
—
Frisk was used to being on their own, and they were pretty good at taking care of themself. But—Well. ...Dying hurt. They just wanted to get back to the surface! With Undyne in the way, they were hopeless.
So when a phone call from Papyrus somehow ended with an offer for them to crash at his house, Frisk could only be relieved for the break.
They could afford to rest for a while, right?

Summary
Mumbo couldn’t remember the last time he’d eaten.
There was a stale croissant on his desk, still in its cafe-branded paper bag. Grian had dropped it off this morning—Yesterday morning, Mumbo corrected himself, glancing at the clock—and he’d brushed it to the side of his desk, swept up in the last-day panic. For the past week, he’d been tunnel-visioned; everything in the world a distant blur, closing in around his thesis submission deadline.
11:59pm on Friday. It was currently 1am on Saturday.
Burnt-out university student Mumbo has a panic attack after missing his thesis deadline. Fortunately, Scar is there to take care of his best friend.

Summary
No, he thinks, that can’t be right, I’m hearing things, but the ground heaves again and when the dust settles the traitorous sound could not be clearer. He can’t quite make out the words. He needs to get out of the vault. He needs to— Why? Why Mumbo? What on earth is he doing with Scar, of all people, Mumbo who ran against him and not so long ago that the loss doesn’t still taste faintly bitter, Mumbo who is Grian’s own best friend—
(And wasn’t Scar, not so long ago, whispers something poisonous in Grian’s mind, that the loss doesn’t still sting?)
No. No. This is not a line of thought he has time to entertain. He needs to focus. But the thing is— it wasn’t supposed to be this way, right? How was Grian meant to know? It was only ever meant to be a joke, and they were both meant to be in on it. How was he to know, when he’d sown the first spores, how deep and how far the roots of this thing would spread?
He’d never wanted to see what Scar would do with power, is the thing. He’d just wanted them both to go home.
It was only ever meant to be a joke. No one is laughing anymore. No, Grian’s terrified.Bookmarked by nameless_frog

Summary
If Impulse and Bdubs were a match made in heaven, then Grian and Scar were a match made in hell. Misery, pain, unhappiness, all of these things sum up what them being soulbound brings to the table. They are the worst possible people to be put together, and they just make each other worse.
Or: A walk through Scar and Grian's toxic life, their struggling coexistence, and the strange mixture of resentment and comradery they share for each other.
Or or: it takes two to toxic, and I use actual scenes from scar's double life episodes to demonstrate
(I don't even need to make up scenes to generate angst, Scar and Grian are literally making the fanfics themselves. They gave me so much content to work with.)
Desert Duo. Written from Scar's POV.
Can be read as Platonic or Romantic but written as Platonic.Bookmarked by nameless_frog
