Work Text:
Cub was building his dunk tank minigame for the charity event Scar was hosting when all of a sudden he heard a scream, loud enough to be heard over the TnT that had just exploded, as it had been for the past few hours while Tango was testing out his minigame.
He immediately dropped what he was doing and flew up to the platform, narrowly dodging a TnT as he landed.
“Tango!” he called out, looking around and spotting him curled up on the ground, clearly injured.
Cub rushed over, carefully keeping an eye out for flying Tnt. From what he knew of the minigame, there was a TnT cannon somewhere.
He crouched down next to Tango and gently grabbed his shoulder, prompting a flinch.
“Hey, man, can you hear me?” Cub asked, concerned.
Tango didn’t respond, and Cub didn't want to risk them getting hit by TnT, so he rolled Tango onto his back and hauled him up into his arms before moving as fast as he could to get off the platform, jumping and gliding to the ground, barely clearing the water.
“Tango?” he asked again once he’d landed and no longer had to worry about exploding.
This time he got a mumbled response that he couldn’t understand, but at least it was a response. He sat down on the ground, careful not to drop Tango, sitting him up and keeping him from falling back with an arm around his shoulders.
“You okay?”
“Hur’s,” he mumbled, and Cub looked at him closer and was able to see burns along the right half of his face, as well as his arm and side. He must’ve gotten caught off guard by some TnT and tried to turn away.
“I’ll bet,” he said, tightening his arm around the other’s shoulders and using his other hand to place and then dig through an ender chest.
He pulled out a healing potion and pulled the cork out with his teeth before holding it out in front of Tango and saying, “Here, drink this.”
Tango reached for it but seeing that his hand was shaking, Cub didn’t let go of the bottle, making sure he didn’t drop it before he managed to drink it.
Cub could see the relief on Tango’s face as soon as he began drinking, the potion acting quickly. It didn’t fully heal the burns, but they were much better and it numbed the pain quite a bit.
Tango leaned his head against Cub’s shoulder once he’d finished the potion, eyes closed.
“Thanks, Cub,” Tango said.
“Of course.”
