Chapter Text
No one really knows who brought it up, they were too drunk to be aware of much. Someone said it and in an instant, everyone except Rooster, who had gotten tired of everyone and was sleeping on the couch snoring as only he could, were sitting in a circle in the living room of the Miramar housing unit assigned to Coyote, very close together, and as concentrated and serious as they could while they could barely sit still and leaned on each other.
The point is someone mentioned it and they couldn't stop thinking about it, in two weeks they would all be deployed all over the world and even though they would do their best to keep in touch and visit, Maverick will be left alone, living in that hangar in half of the desert with his plane and his old motorcycles.
That just couldn't happen, their Mavdad took care of them and they would take care of him too. And what better way to do that than to make sure he always has someone to keep him company when they couldn't?
It was clear that they had to get their pilot dad a date.
So they started planning as they opened another round of beer.
At that very moment, oblivious to everything, Maverick is huddled under the covers on his bed, video chatting with his loving husband and wearing one of his worn shirts, the one with a hole in the neck and so worn that it keeps the smell of Iceman untouched, no matter how much they wash that thing.
