Work Text:
Tobio has a lot of strange dreams. One of them are eyes staring at him while he squirms uncomfortably in the darkness. He can’t really pinpoint what it meant to him, but he used to hear Miwa interpret dreams like that before. Unfortunately, he has already forgotten what she told him and that leaves him confused on what he should do about his dreams.
“Yamayama-kun, you should ask Yamaguchi!” yells Hinata.
“Ask me what?”
Tobio turns his head around and Yamaguchi looks at him expectantly, an eyebrow raised.
“Kageyama had this weird dream about…”
Tobio watches silently as Hinata tells Yamaguchi about his dream, correcting a few pieces of details that the middle blocker gets wrong as he animatedly explains the events. Yamaguchi nods as he listens intently, glancing at Tobio knowingly like he already knew what the dream meant even if Hinata isn’t finished talking yet.
A moment of silence ensues when Hinata stops talking. Then –
“I think you should confess to your crush and ask him out on a date, Kageyama,” says Yamaguchi nonchalantly.
Taken aback, Tobio almost stumbles from his position and scowls. “Why should I?” he asks challengingly.
“Your dream meant that it’s time for you to reveal your feelings to the person looking at you in your dream. Since you can’t remember the face, and I’m assuming that your crush isn’t some figment of your imagination, it’ll be best if you can just ask them out.”
Wait, what? Does Yamaguchi want him to ask his crush out? Who?
“I don’t have a crush,” admits Tobio.
Yamaguchi raises an eyebrow curiously. “Are you sure? Don’t you really remember even just one feature of the person in your dream?”
“Well, the person’s tall, and has yellow eyes, which is weird but it’s really yellow.”
“Oh.” Yamaguchi’s smile turns even stranger. “I see. So, you have a crush on Tsukki.”
“I don’t!” Tobio scrunches his nose at the thought. “Why would I?”
Hinata suddenly bounces excitedly. “Hey, maybe Yamaguchi has a point! I mean, you and Bastardshima are always talking at training, a miracle to even happen. And he always looks at you, I notice that! Plus, you always dote on him, and I notice that too. Now that I think about it, you’re kinda cute together.”
Tobio shakes his head. “No, I –”
“And you said the person in your dream is tall and has yellow eyes. Well, Tsukki has golden eyes. He’s tall too,” points Yamaguchi out.
Tobio cocks his head to the side questioningly, still slightly bewildered. “I…like…Tsukishima?”
“Yeah! Probably!”
Yamaguchi nods understandingly. “It’s hard to accept, but maybe that’s the truth. I really think you should ask him out.”
“Ask who out?” a voice says behind them.
Tobio turns around and sees Tsukishima eyeing them suspiciously. He takes a glance at both Hinata and Yamaguchi before gulping and looking at Tsukishima determinedly. “We should date!” he declares, grasping at Tsukishima’s wrist and waiting for his answer.
Tsukishima stills, his face turning red. “What?”
“You should date me,” repeats Tobio, gazing expectantly at him.
Tsukishima gapes at him. “What the fuck?”

A few hours later, Hinata approaches Yamaguchi, tapping his shoulder with his face scrunched in confusion.
“Does Kageyama’s dream really mean that way? My friend said dreams like that mean that Kageyama is stressed and needs to relax.”
Yamaguchi snorts. “Hell no. I just thought someone needs to get Tsukki’s head out of the clouds before he self-destructs and gives up on his crush. And the opportunity presented itself, so I just took it.”
“Oh.” Hinata widens his eyes. “No way. Bastardshima has a crush on him?”
“Duh,” replies Yamaguchi, sighing in relief. “I’m just glad I can get his emotionally constipated pining under control. But don’t tell Kageyama.”
Hinata nods in understanding. “Sure, I won’t. I’m pretty sure he likes him too anyway.”
To everyone’s surprise (except Hinata and Yamaguchi), Tsukishima and Kageyama walk hand-in-hand as they step inside the gym with glazed looks on their faces. Yamaguchi gives Hinata a thumbs up behind his back, ignoring the nasty glare Tsukishima sent his way.
