Work Text:
A week or so after the rest of the ‘Baku squad‘ got filled in on Kirishimas regression they were all launching in the redheads room.
A board game was occupying most of the space on the floor, while the friends were basically squished around it. It’s been around five hours since they started. The attention span of all the people in the room started to fade as they again and again stopped playing, starting to discuss random things that turned into full blown conversation. Only for one of them to suddenly remember the game and they went back to it.
The game was built like a Dungeons and dragons campaign for 10 year olds with pre written characters whose story you had to find out yourself in side missions. The world was created through different cards that would be added one by one when the guide book told you to.
Needless to say Denki found this game who-knows-where and had begged everyone to play with him. But it wasn’t so bad. It was kinda fun actually.
Kirishima hummed as he moved his turtle figurine to a new location, in hopes of getting more information on the weird memory wiping mist that had fallen over the expanding fictional world.
He was so caught up, he almost didn’t realize the lazy, soft feeling creeping up on his brain. Almost. The game flow got stopped once again as Mina and Bakugou started raising their voices in disbelief at the other persons opinions. This time the conversation was about sad movies and horror movies.
“How do you actually like being jump scared?!”
“How the fuck do you like sad movies without Happy End?!”
“I don’t know! Sad stuff just makes me happy!”
“Wait what?”, Sero looked at Mina.
“Actually, did you know that watching traumatic films boosts feelings of group bonding, as well as increasing pain tolerance by upping levels of feel-good, pain-killing chemicals produced in the brain? So it’s actually not that far fetched.”
“…Where the fuck did that come from Pikachu?”, Bakugou blinked perplexed but Denki just shrugged.
“I don’t like sad movies. They are so… sad. You know.”, he said while grabbing a hand full of potato chips and stuffing them into his mouth.
“Yeah, no shit Sherlock.”, the blond rolled his eyes.
“Uh! My favorite horror… well, ‘horror’ movie”, Sero made quotation marks with his hands “is actually Mary and Max!”
“That stop motion thing?”, Mina took a sip of her soda.
“It’s not a thing! It’s a masterpiece!”
“Ah, you mean that one.”
“You know it Bakugou?!”
“Yeah, but that’s not horror. It fits Pinkies sad shit way more. The ending was so fucked up.”
“Okay… now that you say it, I guess you could be right.”, Sero laughed while scratching the back of his head.
“I am right. I was fucking six when I watched it and it still lives in my head rent free.”
“SIX?! Are you joking?!”
“No. Watched it with fucking Deku back then.”
“Why?”, Sero’s voice was the embodiment of disbelief.
“Because his mom left us alone and in control of the tv and the streaming platform on it.”, now Katsu shrugged and Mina laughed loudly, choking halfway through. Denki slammed his hand onto her back in an attempt to help her but it didn’t do anything as she slowly and most of all dramatically laid down onto the floor she just sat on.
Sero slummed back into the bed frame he leaned on while whispering a “what the actual fuck” under his breath.
The redhead was only half following. Not really liking sad and or scary movies. His focus was on the blond next to him. His carer. Eiji yawned and pushed himself closer to the other. Putting his arms around the others waist.
Still too caught up in the conversation, the carer just lifted his arm, resting his hand on the others head to stroke the red hair. Otherwise he didn’t pay any attention to Eiji and the tired boy huffed a little.
It was already past midnight and they had barely started the second out of three chapters of the now once again forgotten game.
And yes, Eiji was tired and slipping. His eyes drooping and threatening to fall shut. He really wanted to get tucked in now. But he didn’t want to interrupt the conversation the others were having.
“Maybe I should watch it then.”, Mina pressed out after she was finally able to talk again.
“But stop-motion is pretty creepy.”
“I know! It’s why I called it a horror movie before!”, Sero chimed in before Mina continued.
“I was actually thinking about stuff like ‘when Marnie was there’ or ‘Hachiko’.”
“Hey hey hey! You just went from a four on the sad scale to a one hundred!”, Denks complained.
“A four?! Have you seen Marnie?!”
“Yes and I’m just saying! In comparison it just doesn’t hit as hard as Hachiko!”
“Okay okay, compared it’s not as hard but like on its own!”
“Then don’t pull them into one and the same sentence!”
“Oh shut up! What I meant was,”, she cleared her throat while glaring at the electric blond. “Hachiko completely broke me. It’s also my all time favorite but oh my god I can’t watch it without using a whole pack of tissues.”
“Who wouldn’t?!”
Slowly the conversation got slower and Eiji saw his chance.
“Katsu?”, he tightened his hug and pressed his face into the others side as he whined his carers nickname.
Katsu turned to the regressed boy, instantly cutting down the conversation about way too scary and sad stuff for a small child.
“Hey, Eiji. You tired?”, Eiji nodded. The blond huffed out a laugh and Eiji heard Mina coo. Carefully the redhead got lifted up until he could wrap his arms around Katsus neck and his legs around the waist.
“We should stop.”
“Yeah, I’m too tired anyway.”, Mina stretched her arms and the other two nodded.
“We weren’t even playing anymore.”
“But… can we continue next weekend or something?”
“Sure, don’t worry! Sero, make pictures so we know where we were!”
“Hey! Don’t order me around… okay wait.”
Eiji whined a little. He didn’t want this to end but he also really wanted to finally sleep.
“Katsuu.”
“Yeah, it’s okay little one.”, Katsu bounced him a little. Or at least as well as him possible. The others were already packing everything when Mina suddenly spoke up.
“By the way, I was wondering! How come he calls you Katsu? Like that’s kind of… I don’t know, I just want to be let in on the joke!”
“What joke?”, the blond grunted.
“Well, what’s the reason he calls you like a, you know, a dish? How did that happen?”
“… a what?”
“…Kacchan… you… did that-", Denks’ words got caught in his throat as he started laughing wildly. Sero also laughed while looking at the pictures to took to make sure they weren’t blurred.
“You… did that never click for you?!”, Mina also desperately held in her laughter. Eiji felt his carer tighten but the regressor didn’t really care. As long as he gets to sleep sooner rather than later.
“You know, like the Katsudon you made for the whole dorm like two days ago or the-"
“Shut up!”, Katsu groaned as he buried his face in Eijis shoulder. The blonds own shoulders were slightly trembling.
“Shit. Fucking hell.”, Eiji didn’t know if that was suppressed laughter or anger but he did know that cursing was bad!
“Katsuuu! No cursing!”, the others all burst out into a laughing fit. Eiji blinked. What was going on?
“Katsu?”, the laughter got louder and Eiji pouted. Now even Katsu was laughing a little!
“It’s got nothing to do with you Eiji… I- I just-“, the blond closed his eyes for a short second and Denks took over.
“Eiji your oh so perfect carer just didn’t see something really obvious and funny.”
“Shut it! You also didn’t see anything wrong all this time! Don’t fuuu- don’t pretend you were in on it!”
Denks averted his eyes as he blushed a little. Then he also groaned.
“Can you blame me?! I lost weeks worth of jokes because I was blind! No, months worth! That is the most hilarious thing to ever happen that doesn’t even involve quirks and I didn’t see it and you control freak also didn’t hear it!”
“Oh my god.”, Mina choked out as he was once again laying on the floor, desperately fighting to get air into her lungs again.
“Shut up! Get out!”
“But Katsuuu!”, Sero said through laughter of his own and Mina got all the air punched out of her again.
“I’m serious. Get. Out.”
“Oh shit, the meat is getting serious!”, Denks giggled as he grabbed his game and jumped up.
“Yeah… yeah… better… now… meat… fried meat…”, Mina pressed out in breathless huffs as she struggled to get up. Sero grabbed her stretched out hand and pulled her up. Eventually Katsu and Eiji were alone in the room.
The carer sighed as he struggled to stand up with the added weight that didn’t have any intention of letting go of him. Finally he made it to the others bed and managed to free himself as he handed Eiji his stuffed animal Snow and pulled the blanked up to his nose.
Katsus face was a little red as he cleared his throat and started “Hey, Eiji?”, the redhead hummed in response as he cuddled into his mattress and blanket.
“Would it be possible for you to…”, he stopped before starting over “How about getting new nicknames for each other? Wouldn’t that be fun?”, Eiji blinked.
What was Katsu talking about? He shook his head.
“Why not little one?”
“Katsu is Katsu!”
“Ah. I see.”, the carer pressed his lips into fine lines and closed his eyes again.
“Why?”
“Well… it’s nothing.”, the other sighed. “That was clearly my fault… let’s talk about that later…”
“Otayyy.”, Eiji mumbled into Snow as his eyes fell shut.
What a weird question.
