Work Text:

After Ollie got sick, the crew knew it was inevitable, everyone would catch it at least once. But, thank the gods, it's just the flu, so it wouldn't be that bad, right? Just a fever and some chills, nothing to worry about. Well, that's what Jay thought at least, just a measly cold, more of a bother than anything really. Oh, how wrong she was.

As Jay slowly woke up, her head was pounding, it felt like someone hit her over the head with several chairs and then a hammer. She groaned, turning to lie on her back as nausea invaded her senses. Great, it was her turn. She silently cursed whatever god was out there and put a hand to her head. Yep, definite fever, great, just great. She knew she was sick, she knew she had what Chip and Ollie most likely had, so she knew she should probably have stayed put.

She blames what she does next on the fever. As she shakily sat up and wiped the sleep from her eyes, her head spun and she winced, ok slower next time, got it. Everything ached, it was like she just ran a marathon, as she struggled to stay sitting upright. She needed to get to the bathroom where she could get some medicine to hopefully break this fever faster than Chip and Ollie had. It seems like she caught it pretty early on, as she wasn’t completely bedridden just yet, as she found she was able to stand with the help of the wall and the rest of her surroundings.

As she slowly made her way to the bathroom, being as quiet as possible to try not to wake the others, she got a sudden bout of dizziness. Losing her grip on the wall, she swayed on her feet and with a loud thud, fell onto the hardwood floor, ow. So much for not waking up her crew, because when she opened her eyes Chip and Gill were hovering over her, panicking.

“CHIP WHAT DO WE DO-” Gill was frantically looking Jay over for any injuries as the redhead tried to swat his hand away. “I DON'T KNOW I DON'T KNOW! UH- WATER! YEAH, YEAH GET HER WATER” Chip replied, obviously freaked out at Jay's sudden passing out. She was almost falling back asleep when all of a sudden she felt freezing cold water being dumped all over her and cried out in surprise. “NO GILL I MENT DRINKING WATER” Jay stared at the two in utter disbelief, there's no way two people could be so bad at taking care of someone else. And then she remembered who these two people were, and realized she really should've seen it coming.

Gill immediately dried her off using shape water, putting the water back into his barrel. “My deepest apologies Jay, there was a- miscommunication!” Chip facepalmed and Jay just gave him a thumbs up, too tired to do much else. “Where were you going anyway?” Jay gave the brunette a flat look, as to say ‘where do you think I was going', which Chip completely missed and she groaned again. “Bathroom. Medicine. Fever.” She spoke briskly and to the point, her throat was killing her. The two finally seemed to understand, and as Gill helped her to her feet, she saw Chip coming back with the medicine bottle.

The boys led Jay back to the sleeping quarters, where they had her lie down and tried to figure out the medicine. “I think it says. Uh. 2-cups?” Chip squinted at the bottle, “No that can't be right- two tablespoons! There, that's probably it” He nodded to himself as Jay watched in horror, they were going to overdose her on cough syrup. She was going to die here. But, she guesses she trusts these bozos enough to not kill her and takes the medicine when Chip offers it to her. She really needed to get rid of this fever and headache. As soon as she was allowed to lie down again, she was out like a light. Gill and Chip went back and forth on whether they should wake her up to make sure she wasn't dying but ultimately decided to leave her be, and go back to bed themselves.

When Jay woke up for the second time, her headache was better, thank the gods, but it was still there, curse the gods, but she was able to sit upright without wanting to kneel over and die, which she’d take as a win. She looked over at the barrel and other cot in the room and found her friends were gone. Or so she thought, as she turned to the right, she saw the both of them fast asleep on two barrels, leaning on each other. She smiles at the rare sight of peacefulness between the two, no screaming or talk of fights and destiny or money, just- calm.

That moment was instantly broken the second Chip woke up, groggy and disoriented. “Mmm-whatcha smiling about” He then realized what or rather who his head was resting on and glared at her. Jay simply gave him a smug smile. “Awww look at that, Chip has a soft side!” Chip had a retort on the tip of his tongue but was cut off by a harsh cough from Jay. In an instant, he sat upright and hovered over her, unsure of how to help. This, in turn, woke Gillion, as the sleeping tritons pillow moved from under him.

“Relax Chip, it's just a cold '' Jay waved him off, coughing into her elbow. “Ok so maybe it is just a cold, but it's a uh. A shitty cold, yeah, and that means we have to like- take care of you” He quickly backtracks, “So you don't like die or something obviously” She rolled her eyes, a smile on her face as she nodded, “Uh huh, and totally not because you care or anythi-” She was interrupted by a pillow to the face as Chip sat there innocently. “Chip that wasn't very-” Gill was also cut off by a pillow to the face.

Before they knew it, it had turned into a makeshift pillow fight, Gill retaliating by picking Chip up and throwing him onto the bed next to Jay and grabbing both pillows. Jay laughed as Chip scrambled to get away, Gill dominating both of them easily, with Jay being sick and therefore weaker and Chip being well-Chip, Gill came out on top. By the time everyone had settled down, they were all in a dogpile on top of each other, pillows thrown haphazardly around the room, but none of them seemed to care too much, least of all Jay who was once again sound asleep.

Chip was on Jay's right, and Gill was on her left, all of their limbs entangled in the others, covers strewn over the three. Gill's tail was wrapped around one of Jay's legs, his arms wrapped around one of hers, while Jay was in the middle, right leg over both of chips and both her arms being held captive by her co captains. Lastly, Chip had an arm hooked around Jay and his head rested on her shoulder, he looked over and found both his crewmates sleeping. Despite it being almost 9 in the afternoon, he sighed to himself, and eventually fell asleep too, head resting on Jay's shoulder.
