Summary
Applejack couldn’t stop smoothing out her blazer on the walk to the Christmas party Rarity was hosting at the boutique. It wasn’t as if she’d been informed at the last minute, hell she’d been looking forward to it weeks before exam week had even started, but as she put up a hand to thank the car letting her cross the street, she noticed just how sweaty her palms were. Granny and Apple Bloom had insisted she bring a bottle of apple cider as a “housewarming gift,” as she’d missed the opening party the month prior, and approaching the building she saw in her dreams and over FaceTime calls, she was suddenly glad for the heavy grounding bottle under her arm. The blonde caught herself adjusting the neck of her outer layer again, subconsciously doing so, and groaned aloud into the night, running a hand through her newly cut hair instead while the other kept the bottle from making pleasant acquaintance with the concrete. Even that didn’t scratch the itching need to fidget. She felt too dressed up for the Christmas party, and yet she couldn’t help but feel nowhere near nice enough to see her soon-to-be-official, if all goes well, girlfriend for the first time since August.

Summary
It was on her way to lunch that someone grabbed her arm and started to drag her through the halls. Alarmed at first, she went to pull away, but she was hit with a familiar smell, Rarity, a sweet vanilla perfume she’d been buying since she was 11, and she instantly relaxed, letting herself be tugged. They weaved through the crowds of people rushing to get to the cafeteria, eventually turning a corner into a deserted bathroom that made the footfall outside sound like miles away, as if hearing music from another room. It was only then, really, that Applejack had any time to look at her friend, to really take her in for longer than a second. Her hair was frizzy, with flyaways falling out of every corner of her bun and into her face, lacking any of her usual jewelry. She wore an oversized Nirvana shirt draped over her body, hiding the curves she preferred to show off, her lips chapped and lacking their usual shade, eyes seeming bigger than they were without her mascara or eyeliner outlining them - Applejack had never seen anyone so beautiful. Rarity looked like she’d just rolled out of bed, and she had never wanted something as much as she wanted to tell her how gorgeous she was.

Juliet couldn’t fathom how gently her knight touched her when he was given the chance.
She knew he wasn’t weak, not in the slightest, and yet he held back with her. She had spied on him training with other knights in the courtyard as he won against every opponent, sparks flying from their blades as they clashed. He was the roughest out there, wolf-like endurance - it made her head spin to watch him work. It was the only time she got to see him without his helmet, see him win, and then throw his head back and smile wide as he rested his blade on his shoulder in triumph. He always wore his helmet around Juliet, a sign of his dedication, a sign of his respect for her, but by the gods there had been times recently where she wanted to take it off of him herself and look at him up close - look at him the way only the sun had been allowed to. She’d heard the rumors through thin walls, whispers that Sir Kingsley had never taken a lover. Whispers wondering why such a renowned name had never shown interest in any of the maids like the other men his age. Juliet wanted to ask, wanted to get him alone, she wanted the answer. The strong, handsome, and unattainable man she called hers - she wanted to know him and all his secrets.

Sometimes they acted out of pride, of desperation, for ulterior motives, acting on orders, or a myriad of assorted other motivations, but after a few broken bones it was quite easy to deduce their intentions. No matter who, they were all the same.

She gazed at the stars, longing tucked into the edges of her dull ruby irises, not even looking his way when he asked. She hummed, though, a quiet thing, a quiet acknowledgement. The brunet took her lead, turning his own gaze to the stars, trying to find them beyond the glow of the city.
It made it easier to ask, neither of them looking at the other, knowing she had no intent to look his way.
