Chapter Text

Kathryn was nursing a headache and a hangover from last night. Decan popped his head into the office and found Kathryn on the couch with a bucket nearby.

“Admiral?” Decan whispered, afraid to hurt the woman on the couch.

“Mhmm?” Kathryn groaned knowing she shouldn’t be like this in front of her assistant let alone anyone.

“Admiral Hayes is here to see you with Admiral T’Lara. Would you like to see them?”

“Not particularly at the moment Decan. Give me 5 minutes to clean up and at least steel myself against this migraine.”

“Alright, I’ll check in again.”

Kathryn nodded with her face on the couch and heard Decan leave the room. She somehow heaved herself up to go to the refresher, when she got there she heaved the contents of her stomach into the sink. She then ran the water to clean the sink but also splash her face and to wash her mouth. She smoothed down her hair. Made sure her uniform was presentable. Went to her replicator just as Decan came inside again and ordered a double strong black coffee.

“Are you ready for them now Admiral?”

“Yes.” Kathryn took a sip of coffee and the headache was dulling a little bit. “Send them in, Decan.”

Decan nodded his affirmative and left the office and a couple of seconds later Admiral Hayes and Admiral T’Lara walked in.

“Good Morning Admirals.”

“Good Morning Admiral Janeway.” T’Lara said in her stoic voice.

“Would you like anything? Tea? Coffee?”

“No, Thank you.” They replied in unison.

Admiral Hayes decided to speak up first, “We are here today, because you broke the terms from your court martial. You spoke to a member of your old crew outside of the mandatory celebratory functions.”

Kathryn’s eyes dropped to her coffee. Steeling her for what was about to come. “I don’t know what you are talking about Admiral. What do you mean?”

“Captain Chakotay last night. You spent the night with him. You just had one more month before you were free.” T’Lara said with her stoic voice.

“No. I was in my office. Then I went home where I decided it would be nice to sleep on a couch instead of a bed. Because I can’t walk more than 2 steps into my apartment without collapsing from exhaustion everyday.”

Hayes cleared his throat then proceeded to say, “Captain Chakotay’s assistant works with us to make sure that you would not see him. However, she didn’t stop you and instead allowed you to see him.”

“One more infraction Admiral and you’ll be going to jail.”

“Alright, how about this. I’ve been so good for 10 years. In fact so much so that I’m a ghost of who I used to be. 10 years ago we made a pact to see each other after 10 years at the homecoming ceremony. Yesterday was 10 years since the day that we talked. Just let me have this last month, unless you want to see a dead Admiral in this office in the morning.”

Hayes looked shocked at the fact that Kathryn even suggested suicide. T’Lara still looked stoic. They both turned to each other and then back to Kathryn and said, “Excuse us for just a minute.”

Kathryn drank her cold coffee in silence while Hayes and T’Lara spoke to each other. They came back and Hayes spoke up, “Alright. The last month you can have. But you can only talk to the Captain. Everyone else still has to wait another month.”

Kathryn nodded, and stood up. Hayes and T’Lara stood up too, they both turned to the door, when Hayes turned around and said, “We’ll be watching you Admiral.”

“I’ll be a good girl, Admirals.”

When they both left Kathryn flopped on top of her couch. The hangover came into full force again, when she called Decan into her office. Decan found her on the couch again with an arm over her head.

“What can I do for you Admiral?”

“Call Captain Chakotay. Tell him to meet at my apartment when he finishes. Meanwhile, could you grab a detox hypospray, I think I’ve punished myself enough with this headache and hangover.”

“Ok, I’ll come back.”

Decan moved from the office and Kathryn closed her eyes for a minute, and let herself sink into the darkness.

Decan came into the office with the hyposprays. He also made sure that he had the details from Captain Chakotay written on a PADD nearby on the coffee table. He injected the contents of the hypospray into her neck and went to the door. Then he said to no one in particular, “Have a good sleep Admiral.”
