Work Text:
Izuku had been told he was quirkless since he was a kid. But something about that didn’t sit right with him.
He knew he had a quirk
And no it wasn’t just his overactive imagination or wishful thinking. He could feel it.
It was like there was a thrum of energy ready to burst under his skin
Especially at night time, when everything was shrouded in darkness. He could feel the shift in his bones. It felt as if his skin had become too tight to hold him.
There was something just waiting to break through.
For months after his diagnosis, he felt like this. Every time the five-year-old tried to explain it to his mother, she would brush him off, claiming he imagined it. That he wanted a quirk so bad, his brain had come up with this pathetic excuse.
But that wasn't it at all
So over the years when the pains grew worse and he started to subtly change, he kept it to himself.
When his eyesight started to decrease and his sense of smell increased ten-fold, he kept it to himself
When the urge for meat was nearly insatiable, he kept it to himself
In his eyes, there was nothing to worry about,
That was until one night the pain went from an ache to nearly unbearable. He could feel his body changing and it wasn’t subtle anymore.
He spent the night biting his pillow trying to muffle the screams that he so desperately wanted to let out
By the time morning had come he had fully transformed
Izuku could hardly believe it!
The skin on his face had torn into four parts that opened like an orchid, his green eyes were now a dull white
He stood nearly seven feet tall, and his body was bony and a dull grey in color.
His eyesight had completely changed, he could sense heat. He could even see the thermal energy coming from his mother, who was a few doors down!
Even though his body had changed, and he was a whole new creature, Izuku was ecstatic because he finally had a quirk!
He could be a hero!
