Cuphead had lost his soul twice, and while neither of them had lasted long, it was the worst feeling he’d ever felt.
The feeling of being pulled out of his body and sucked into a machine.
Feeling the Devil reach in and pull his soul out.
But he also felt Mugsy.
His sister who had saved him both times.
She ran after his soul and reached into the machine to pull him out and put his soul into the right place again.
And not only did she save his soul a second time, she shoved the invisible sweater onto the Devil and drove him away for months!
So, Cuphead losing his soul had been the worst feeling ever….
Until he couldn’t find Mugsy at the Carn-Evil, and the scream she let out?
He would rather feel his soul being taken a thousand times than ever hear that again.
That feeling?
It was so much worse.
Cuphead had never felt so scared for his sister in his life in that moment.
And it was all over now, but he still has nightmares about running to where he heard that scream and finding her killed.
When Mugsy asks, he lies and says it’s about the Devil coming for his soul.
And she says she’ll make sure it doesn’t happen, that she’ll protect him.
Cuphead had said the same thing to her when she had nightmares.
Funny how it’s changed.
He’s still scared that one day, it’s gonna happen again.
That one day he’ll lose sight of Mugsy again and hear that scream again.
Only to find something much worse waiting than last time, like seeing the Devil with her soul in his grip.
He never wants her to feel what he felt.
If the Devil so much as lays a claw on his sister….
Cuphead will find a way to kill him.
