“Because I lost the bet, I put our souls on the line even when you were begging me to stop!”
“Yeah, but I’m still not letting you do this on your own!”
“Mugsy, I’m not kidding when I say I’d rather tie you up and lock you in here than let you come with me.”
“If you try to go without me, I’ll do it to you!”
Cuphead groaned. “Why can’t you just listen to me!?”
“Why can’t you just let me come with you?” Mugsy pushed.
“Because I don’t want you to get hurt, that’s why! The thought of anything happening to you because of me is terrifying. You’re my little sister, Mugsy.”
“By three minutes, Cuphead,” she sighed, “and I’m scared for you going alone. Can…can you just stay here tonight, and we can both go tomorrow?”
“….sure, Mugsy, okay.”

Cuphead sneaked out.
He was nearly defeated in the first battle, nearly dead.
And then Mugsy appeared, distracting the enemy long enough to fix him up.
She refused to leave for the rest of the fight, not about to let that happen again.
Cuphead stopped trying to get her to leave when it became apparent she wouldn’t listen and was actually a big help.
They were both holding up really good, with no more damage taken.
The enemy was eventually defeated and their soul contract was finally in Cuphead’s hand.
He cheered at their victory. “We did it, Mugsy!”
But unfortunately, his worst fear had come true.
His sister had taken a sudden last hit from the enemy as they were going down, and her soul was leaving her body.
Her dead body.
“No….NO! MUGSY!”
