Chapter Text
He knew he shouldn’t have followed Mario into the pipe. He should’ve told him to stop!
Now, Luigi is taken as a prisoner and is currently walking towards an extremely menacing castle in an unknown world. Turtles with spears cackled as they watched the human tread through the castle walls.
Luigi gulped nervously, feeling very unsafe as he continued to follow behind a short little stranger with a red cloak and a mask. His wrists were chained up so there was no way for him to escape. There were puddles of lava at every corner and torches that flamed furiously. The walls of the castle were tall and intimidating as he continued to go deeper into the building. Luigi came to the conclusion that he is being taken away to the big boss of this whole kingdom..whoever that may be. Just by seeing how the guards act, the king must not be that nice of a guy.
Suddenly, Luigi was lifted from the air.
“gAH!” Sparkles of blue glowed around him as he began to float out of nowhere. Then, he was violently flown forward, abruptly halting after a second. Luigi breathed heavily in panic, looking around his surroundings before making eye contact with a giant beast that sat before him.
It was a large creature. kinda looked like the turtles he saw but…a LOT bigger. He had giant spikes on his shell, jewelry that also had spikes, red hair that was swept back and large claws that could definitely hurt Luigi if he doesn’t pick his next words wisely. Beside the beast was a smaller turtle who was waving his hands around as blue sparks emitted from his claws. He must be the one who is holding Luigi up and possibly the creature’s right hand man.
“We found a human at the entrance of your doors, King Bowser,” one of the turtles announced. “Must’ve came from a different world,”
The beast slowly rose from his throne, the sound of loud stomping echoed throughout the room as he approached Luigi, growling softly underneath his breath. Luigi couldn’t do anything in the moment but to stare at the king in terror.
“Not sure if you know who I am,” Bowser began, “but I’m about to rule the world,” Suddenly, his nail was met against Luigi’s chin, raising it so he could look at him better. The sound of guards and cloaked characters chattered in excitement.
The plumber’s heart raced as he recoiled his eyes to the back of his head, nearly passing out in fear.
“W-wow, hehe…yaay,” Luigi weakly replied. Get it together, Luigi.
“But there’s one problem,” Bowser’s claw slowly lowered from Luigi’s chin, the plumber letting out a breath of relief. “There’s a human. Has a mustache. Just. Like. You.”
Luigi let out a yelp as he watched the king slowly reach to grab a string of Luigi’s mustache hair. Bowser slowly pulled at his hair, the pain already settling in.
“I-I have no idea what you’re talking aboUT,” Luigi’s string of mustache hair was tugged by the beast, tears pricking the corners of the plumber’s eyes. Oh the PAIN.
“He wears red instead of green and has a letter ‘M’ instead of an ‘L’ on his cap. If you don’t tell me about this human, I’m going to make sure your stay here is torturous,” Bowser threatened as he suddenly wrapped his free hand around the body of the plumber, tightening his grasp in an intimidating manner. The blue aura no longer emitted from the human anymore.
Luigi could feel his breathing becoming less easier to obtain, which set off his panic mode. He must be talking about Mario! How is he already known here….no matter, there is no way he’s going to tell this monster about his brother. He gotta think of a lie. And fast.
“D-Do you think I know every human being with a mustache wearing an identical outfit with a hat with a letter of his first name on it?” Luigi cringed at his terrible lie as he looked to the beast who was at the verge of ripping his precious mustache off.
“Because I don’t,” Luigi grinned nervously.
Bowser ripped the string of hair off.
Luigi screamed.
“You’re one dedicated human, I’ll give you that,” Bowser grinned his gruesome smile as he slowly brought Luigi closer to his face.
“But not a smart one,” He growled quietly. Luigi could feel his hot breath hit against his face which caused him to panic even more.
“Speak now before it’s too late,” The reptile tightened his grip on the plumber. Luigi winced slightly as he desperately attempted to breathe, only releasing small whimpers instead of an answer to Bowser’s demand.
The king did not like the human’s stubbornness. He growled, “Lock him in the dungeons!”
The king lets go of the human, causing Luigi to fall to the floor. Right as he was about to hit the ground, he was once again lifted by the magical abilities of the wizard turtle. The wizard walked beside Luigi as the human floated along, watching Bowser return to his throne.
“He’ll talk,” Bowser mumbled as he sat on his throne.
-
Luigi was thrown into a cell by a Koopa Troopa (as he finally learned the name through his terrible walk through the castle). The bars slammed shut and the guard marched off. Luigi frantically got up to shake the bars of the door, hoping to get it open…obviously, it didn’t.
“Hey! Hey, wait! You got the wrong guy!! I-I’m just a plumber!!” He wailed as he shook the cell bars. There was no response. Luigi sighed before hitting his head against the cell door in defeat. And to think that being a plumber would’ve been the safest job in the field.
What was Luigi to do? Obviously, Bowser, the king of this land, wants information about his brother. Luigi doesn’t even know where he is — and if he did, he would never give his brother up for the creature. Didn’t he say he was going to take over the world?! Ohh there is no way out of here. Mario probably doesn’t even know where he is, either…how did King Bowser even get news about his brother? Why is it that everywhere they go Mario is always the first to be mentioned?
Everyone talked about Mario back at home and apparently he is also talked about here. That’s kind of a pain. Luigi was always left out like the last crumbs of a chip bag.
The green plumber plopped to the floor and sat in misery, rethinking his life choices.
He just wants to go home.
Whoosh!
A soft sound of something rushing by alerted the plumber. Luigi looked up, examining the dungeons in fear of something pouncing at him.
Whoosh, whoosh!!
There it is again! This time he saw something in the corner of his eyes. Luigi got up to his feet and backed away from the cell door.
“RAURR!!”
Luigi screamed out loud before cowering to the floor and covering his head with his arms as he pleaded, “Please don’t kill me!!”
A round of giggles echoed through the cage. Surprised and confused, Luigi hesitantly opened his eyes to be met with a little turtle laughing. He wore a bandana that had a drawing of a mouth with sharp teeth over his snout and looked exactly like Bowser except a lot, and I mean, a LOT smaller.
“I got you, I got you!” The boy sang as he pointed to the human. Luigi was unsure of what was happening. Was this boy here to be torture Luigi? Did Bowser send him in to play with him in a terrible manner?
The little boy pulled down his bandana as he walked towards the cell bars. He had a toothy grin sprawled across his face which Luigi found kind of adorable. Just the thought of King Bowser might’ve looked like him when he was a child amused him.
“Listen up, prisoner! This is my castle and you have to follow my rules!” The boy cried out. “As long as you listen to me, then you’re all good. If you don’t: prepare to face the con-sick-win-sis,” (Consequences)
Luigi stared at the child.
“W-who are you?”
The boy furrowed his eyebrows, taken back by such a question, “I’m Junior; the next king of this kingdom! Once my dad finally sees how scary I can be, he’ll make me the new king of the Koopas!” The child announced proudly.
Oh so that makes sense. He’s Bowser’s kid.
OH MY GOD IT’S BOWSERS KID.
“L-Look, kid—“
“It’s Prince Junior to you, prisoner!” Junior growled. It wasn’t as terrifying as the king himself but it’s still a work in progress.
Luigi held out his hands in mercy, “R-right, my apologies, P-Prince Junior. Look, I don’t think you’ve got the right guy!”
“That’s what they all say,” Junior folded his arms as he rolled his eyes.
“N-No! Listen, I don’t even know where I am!”
Junior let out a laugh,“You’re lying! Everyone knows the terrifying island of the Koopas!”
“I don’t! I didn’t even know this place existed until I winded up inside of those pipes! I don’t even know what the heck you guys are!” Luigi explained frantically.
The child eyed the human suspiciously. Why would a prisoner lie about something so dumb? Maybe he hit his head super hard after he arrived here?
“Where did you come from, then?” The boy asks.
“Earth, Brooklyn, New York — I’m not supposed to be here. I'm just a plumber who fixes broken pipes,” Luigi responds in a weary tone.
Brooklyn? Junior taps his chin for a moment as he tries to recall any news about Brooklyn-ers. And to the thoughts of it, this might be his very first Earth-Brooklyn-New York human. The prince returned his attention to the human in front of him.
“Weird…I don’t think we ever had a New York person come here..” Junior muttered.
“See?! I-I’m not from around here!” Luigi points out.
“But that doesn’t make you innocent, prisoner!” Junior scoffed. “I bet New York is filled with strange men with mustaches just scheming to fight against King Bowser!”
The green plumber groaned in frustration as he dragged his cap onto his face. It’s no use. He’s just gonna have to spend the rest of his days in this lonesome cage.
Junior looked at the human again as curiosity began to take play.
“What’s your name anyways?” Junior asks.
Luigi peeked from his cap to look at the boy.
“It’s…It’s Luigi,” He replied faintly. “What are you going to do with me?” Luigi finally asks as he readjusted his cap.
“We barely get any prisoners here. My dad always ends up burning them to ashes before even sending them to the cells. Even when they do end up going to the dungeons, they eventually get burned alive,” Junior responded nonchalantly. The thought of being set to flames sent Luigi in a spiral of anxiety.
“It gets kinda lonely in the castle so I like to bug the prisoners,” Junior spoke as he tapped on the cell bars. Despite his father being a raging, evil blood-thirsty monster, his kid is quite literally still a kid; surprisingly. Luigi expected something more vicious and aggressive but he’s just a boy trying to live up to his dad’s name.
Luigi cautiously sits down, “So your dad is usually busy?” Junior nodded, a slight sorrow filling in his eyes.
“But it’s okay. He’s doing what he needs to do to keep our kingdom safe,” Junior sparked in excitement. “One day, I’m gonna be just like him!”
Luigi smiled at his enthusiasm.
“I mean, you do have his intimidating roar down,” He complimented. Junior looked at the human in surprise, not really expecting such a comment.
“Really?” Junior’s eyes lit up.
“You scared the jeepers out of me,” Luigi chuckled lightly. He wasn’t sure if encouraging the prince was a good idea. His dad seems like a pretty bad guy but he can’t assume things too fast. After all, Luigi has no idea where he is and how things work around here. However, the compliment did make the prince extremely happy. Junior grinned proudly as he showed off his baby fangs.
“I knew I was scary!” Junior pumped his fists in the air victoriously. “Ya know, I’ve been practicing! You should hear me when I get super duper mad!”
“Junior!” a voice bellowed down the stairs of the dungeons which made Luigi jump. The prince rolled his eyes.
“That’s my dad. I have to go eat dinner. Bye, Luigi,” Junior waved to the prisoner as he ran upstairs.
Luigi slightly waved back to the dark prince as he watched the boy disappear upstairs.
Nice kid.
-
It became night and Luigi was exhausted but he just could not fall asleep. He laid in the rigid bed that was planted in the corner of the cell, staring straight at the ceiling. Luigi was too worried about his brother. Where was he now? Is he hurt? Is he in a better condition than he is? Thoughts and thoughts continued to pile on top of another, it hurt to close his eyes anymore. Oh how much he missed home-
“Prisoner,”
“ACK!” Luigi yelped before falling off the bed, frantically climbing up to his feet to look at the voice in front of him. It was the blue-wizard Koopa that Luigi hasn’t gotten the name of yet.
“King Bowser requests for your presence,” the wizard continued. A Koopa guard unlocks the cell and slides the door open. Oh boy.
Luigi stared at the two Koopas in contemplation, worrying about what the king wanted with him. With a nervous gulp, the plumber hesitantly walked to the wizard-Koopa and followed behind him as they walked up the stairs. The guard followed close behind Luigi with a spear in hand.
Bowser probably wants answers. Maybe he decided dinner wasn’t enough and wanted to eat him. What if Junior told something about him that made Bowser mad?! What could it be?!
They made it out of the dungeons and began walking through the hallways of the castle. Dread filled the inside of Luigi’s chest with each step he took, getting closer and closer to King Bowser’s location. He was terrified.
After many left turns and right turns, they arrived at two tall doors. Luigi let out a shaky breath of fear. The wizard knocked on the door before taking a step back.
“It is I, Kamek, with your prisoner, sir,” the wizard announced. Suddenly, the doors were opened by a pair of Koopa Troopa guards from the inside. Behind the doors was none other than the King of Koopas, looming over a table that was in the center of the room. On the table was a 3-dimensional map. The room was round and it was decorated as a bedroom. There were bookshelves at the walls of the room, a bed right behind the table, giant paintings of landscapes, etc and etc. This must be where Bowser sleeps. Great.
The wizard used his powers once more to float Luigi inside of the room. Luigi could feel his heart pound against his chest, ready to burst at any moment.
“Everyone out,” Bowser ordered. Oh this is it. This is how it’s gonna end for dear Luigi.
The Koopa Troopas quickly exits the room, shutting the giant doors behind them with a loud thud. It went silent for a moment, Luigi swore he could hear his own heartbeat.
“So, Luigi,” Bowser began, “Where exactly is Brooklyn, New York?”
Oh his son told him everything. That’s just great.
Luigi gulped anxiously as he slowly approached the table, his knees wobbling, begging Luigi to turn the other way and run. It was a tall table so he had to stand on his tippy toes to get a better view of the map. There were so many different islands but none of them seemed familiar to Luigi. This was nothing like his home world. How was Bowser going to take a ‘I don’t know’ for an answer?
“I-I uh,” Luigi laughed weakly as he looked across the table to Bowser, “I-I don’t think it’s any of these,”
The king furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
“I-I swear I’m telling the truth, it’s none of these! I-I don’t even know how to go back home!” Luigi frantically explained. The reptile narrowed his eyes at the plumber.
“Then how did you get here in the first place?” Bowser boomed.
“A pipe,” Luigi quickly answered. “I-It was a big plumbing job a-and I fell through the pipe I was working on and I-I ended up here,”
Bowser hummed in dissatisfaction. It would be foolish for the prisoner to be lying, however he did lie about the new hero that he had been hearing so much about. His description matched Luigi’s except a few alterations.
“How do I know that you aren’t lying like earlier?” The reptile growled as he held the sides of the table and towered over the map. Luigi cowered in fear of getting burnt to a crisp.
“H-He’s my brother!” Luigi blurted out. This caught Bowser’s attention. “I-I don’t know where he is or what he’s up to!” He trembled with each word that came out of his mouth, hoping it wouldn’t be his last.
“I-I’m telling the truth,”
A low chuckling came from the king, “Wow, you are nothing like what people have said about your brother. I thought you two would be similar,”
Of course; Luigi is still compared with Mario no matter what world he was in.
“However, you could be useful though,” Bowser grinned mischievously as he began to approach the small human.
“W-What?” Luigi chuckled nervously as he watched the king slowly tower over him. Suddenly, Bowser snatched the human in his hand again.
“gAh!” Luigi yelped as he was taken away to a small hallway of the room. Each step that Bowser took caused the floor to rumble beneath his feet. Luigi twisted and turned in his grasp but there was no way of getting out. His breathing quickened as panic rose inside of him, his heart racing.
They made it to the end of the hallway which had a lever sticking from the floor. Bowser pulled the lever towards himself, causing the wall in front of him to descend. Out of nowhere, a bright light flashed into Luigi’s eyes, causing him to look to the side. After taking a moment to adjust his eyes to the brightness, he slowly turned to face the light and was immediately struck in amazement. It was a beautiful floating star that glowed brightly. The star was kept inside of a glass so it must be very valuable to Bowser.
“What…What is it?” Luigi looked up to the grinning reptile.
“It is a Super Star. It’s the most powerful thing a man can get their hands on. With this, it will grant you a moment of invincibility,” Bowser explained as he continued to stare at the star in awe. “I took this one from another kingdom. One by one, I’ll be taking the stars from every kingdom in the world. Your brother is probably training to come and retrieve you from me but he won’t stand a chance once I use these power-ups. After he’s out of the way, my conquest will be victorious. Then everyone will know and fear me, King Bowser; the most powerful king of all the land!” He laughed proudly at his genius plan.
“But why?”
Bowser abruptly paused his laughing to turn to look at the human in his hand.
“What do you mean why?” Bowser yelled at the plumber in anger.
“I-I meant w-whY do you wanna be feared?” Luigi’s confidence immediately deflated as he nervously rephrased his question. “I-I’m not an expert or anything b-but don’t you think making people be scared of you only creates more enemies?” He cringed.
“No!” The king bellowed, unaware of his grip suddenly tightening around the plumber. “No one will want to mess with me because I’m the most powerful! I’ll have everything at that point!”
“T-Then what happens after that?” Luigi pressed on even though he was lacking oxygen. “After you get all the stars, invade all the l-lands and everyone’s scared of you, there’s nothing left for you, is there? Y-You’re just gonna be alone in your throne, w-with nothing left to do,”
Bowser’s nostrils steamed in fury as he angrily stared at the human, absolutely flabbergasted by his sudden questions.
“Just who do you think you are? You have no place to ask me these questions, plumber!” Luigi let out a painful noise as his body crushed beneath the furious king’s hand.
“My conquest will be successful and I will know exactly what to do afterwards. The Koopa race will flourish and we will benefit from my doing!”
Bowser breathed heavily as Luigi groaned in anguish, his ribs about to shatter into a million pieces.
“You’re..” Luigi weakly wheezed, “You’re gonna end up with nothing..it’s…not worth it..”
Bowser opened his mouth to argue back at the human when he suddenly thought to himself. Did he know what to do after he gained power over all the lands? Well, he could go and, well, fight against…no, there won’t be anyone to fight with. Maybe he could go and conquer…well there won’t be anymore conquering since he’s conquered the whole world. Well now he’s stumped.
What then?
He felt something light hit the side of his thumb. Bowser looked to his hand and realized the plumber had passed out, his head resting on top of his thumb. Quickly, the king loosened his grip on the human and raised his head with his thumb to see if he was even alive. Luigi was still breathing, his chest heaving slowly.
Bowser furrowed his eyebrows at the unconscious human, rethinking his questions. They were all good questions but Bowser doesn’t really have an answer to them. The reptile pulled the lever back in place, watching the wall ascend from the floor and locking the Super Star up tight. He slid the human in his arms so that Luigi was being held in a bridal-carry pose. The reptile stared at him for a moment. Such a pathetic human being. What made him think it was okay to interrogate the King of Koopas? Did he not realize that he was being held by a vicious beast that could kill him in a second? He doesn’t have anything that he could defend himself with either.
Bowser scoffed before making his way back to the main room with the human resting in his arms
