If he could, Shouta thinks, he would go back in time to when, thinking he was terrible with kids he'd happily resolved to never be a parent, and kick his past self in the head for being an idiot.
If he had to decide, it had probably (definitely) been the USJ Incident that had sealed his fate as 1-A's unanimously adopted father-figure, only to officially become so for Shinsou mere weeks after the Sports Festival and an investigation into the kid's former foster home.
He'd had a passing acquaintance with Hawks previously, but after the Wing Hero had adopted Tokoyami as his "bird bro" (his words, not Shouta's) they saw enough of him that the rest of the class had grown attached as well. Keigo and Shouto being in the same room so often, combined with the former's relationship with "That's my big brother Touya, not" Dabi of the League of "Really-More-Like-Vigilantes-At-This-Point-Than" Villains, meant the Todoroki Family Drama had come to light far sooner and in a much less catastrophic way than might have happened, adding one to three additional siblings depending on the day.
Speaking of birds, despite being a Quirk Dark Shadow was very much her own being and she couldn't be more different from her twin.
The Big Three had gotten dragged into it by their Work-Study fellows, by this point all but part of the class even though he should really only be seeing them in Hero Ethics (and Amajiki in Underground Fundamentals, a class just as shady and under-the-radar as the heroes it trained).
And of course, Eri. Dear, sweet Eri who could do no wrong - he still denied being anyone's father, of course, but he was proud and glad to be her Zawa.
Almost as glad as he was that nobody expected him to respond to cards, seeing as answering all twenty nine before him, thanking him for being an amazing father-figure, would have taken days.
