Work Text:

Changbin winces as his foot brushes against the chair leg. He really needs to be more careful. Then again, he supposes it’s a little too late for being careful.

As Changbin looks around the A&E waiting room, he reflects over what had happened to lead to him spending Christmas Eve night in the hospital.

--

“Yah, Changbin be careful!” Felix had said upon watching Changbin hurl himself up onto the chair. There were putting up final decorations in their shared university dorm and this was the last one. As Changbin went to pin the decoration, he noticed he was slightly off-kilter and shifted to be at a better angle. Unfortunately, the chair tipped under his weight and before Changbin knew it, he was on the floor, a loud crash sound echoing through the dorm, and the pain in his foot was absolutely unbearable.

Felix had come rushing in, fussing and fretting over him, before Chan, Felix’s boyfriend, agreed to drive Changbin to the hospital. Changbin had made the pair leave shortly after he’d been checked in, too embarrassed by his fall to let them sacrifice their Christmas for him.

--

Which led Changbin to where he is now, smiling at the little kids that pass, and huffing as the pain in his foot continues to throb and swell. A nurse comes over, offering him water and some more pain meds and he happily takes them, choosing to brush over her words telling him it’s a four hour wait. By the time those four hours are up, it’ll be Christmas Day, Changbin realises. He huffs once the nurse has left his side.

It's gonna be a long four hours.

Jisung sniffles as Minho talks to the receptionist, explaining the situation. He’s pretty sure all the bones in his arm are shattered and he’s so mad that he’d gone and broken his arm on Christmas Eve, of all days. Minho thanks the receptionist and turns to Jisung, leading him towards the waiting room.

“You gonna be okay?” Minho asks, crouching down to look into Jisung’s eyes, the younger’s face still red and wet with tears as he stares at the ground. He sniffles again, nodding his head.

“Go. Tell Innie I’m sorry.” Jisung whispers. Minho ruffles his hair, kissing the top of his head, before turning to leave.

“Text me any updates!” Minho says over his shoulder and Jisung barely manages to get out a loud enough ‘will do’ before Minho turns the corner and is gone. Jisung starts crying then, silent tears falling down his cheeks and barely audible sniffles sounding in the room around him. He hears someone near him move but he can’t bring himself to look up until a voice near him sounds up.

“Are you okay?” Jisung lifts his head up, eyes wet with tears and nose snotty, only to find a gorgeous boy with deep blue hair and soft boba-like eyes looking at him with concern across his face.

“Yeah, sorry, I just, I feel stupid for breaking my arm on Christmas Eve, of all days.” Jisung sniffles, voice strained with sadness.

“You’re not stupid. I’m pretty sure my foot is broken, so we’re in the same boat.” The boy laughs awkwardly. Jisung giggles before standing up, grabbing his overnight bag and making his way over to sit next to the boy.

“My name’s Jisung, what, what’s yours?” Jisung hiccups, and the blue-haired boy giggles at that, the sound so sweet and melodic that Jisung wants to store it in a bottle and drink it up forever and ever. Jisung imagines it’d taste sweet like honey with a spark of something sour, like a fizzy childhood treat, layered underneath it.

“Changbin.” The boy says and Jisung smiles at him, mumbling the name back, enjoying the way it sounds in his mouth. Changbin brightens up at that, a cute smile spreading across his face and Jisung thinks Changbin has gotta be the prettiest person in the world, truly.

“Well then Changbin, I guess it’s me and you stuck together tonight.” Jisung says, giggling softly when a gentle hue of red tinges across the cute boy’s cheeks.

“You won’t catch me complaining.” Changbin says, winking playfully at Jisung. Jisung laughs, his head tipping back, and when he looks at Changbin again, the blue-haired boy has an adorable twinkle in his eyes that Jisung thinks he could get lost in if he tried hard enough. He smiles, scrunching his face up, loving the way it sends Changbin into a fit of giggles.

Maybe spending the night in hospital won’t be so bad after all.

Changbin can see Jisung’s form as the younger boy comes running back, a few snacks in his non-injured hand, with a few bottles of drink tucked under his arm. He skips over, smiling sweetly at Changbin as he makes his way over, before huffing.

“That was painful.” Jisung whines, playfully stomping his foot, and Changbin giggles, already so in love with the way Jisung talks and sounds. He takes the snacks from Jisung’s hand, taking his drink when the younger offers it to him, before ripping open a chocolate bar, glad to have something sugary to sink his teeth into.

“Thwank you.” Changbin says, words muffled by the food he’s still eating before he slaps a hand over his mouth. He swallows the food down before smiling sheepishly at Jisung. “Sorry, that was probably really gross to witness.” Changbin apologises, looking down at his lap.

“No, no, no! Not at all. It was kind of adorable.” Jisung says and when Changbin looks up at him, the younger has a soft tint of pink on his cheeks, eyes pointedly avoiding Changbin’s.

“You’re adorable.” Changbin says, taking another bite of the chocolate and Jisung playfully hmphs, his cheeks puffing out and Changbin finds that he can’t take his eyes off the younger’s lips, so pretty and pink and so damn kissable. Changbin flushes, before looking away and finishing off the bar of chocolate.

“Hmph, no, you’re the adorable one.” Jisung pouts and Changbin is pretty sure he leans forward for a second, but he catches himself, stopping a kiss that definitely shouldn’t happen. “Will you feed me, Binnie? I can’t really use my hand.” Jisung continues like he hadn’t just complimented Changbin or dropped a nickname on him so casually. Changbin is 100% sure his cheeks are red now, but he isn’t gonna just leave Jisung to struggle so he agrees, nodding his head and opening the snacks that Jisung chooses.

Lord help me, Changbin thinks. This cute boy is gonna be the death of me.

An hour passes, Changbin and Jisung filling up the time with talking and silly banter, when Jisung accidentally brushes his foot against Changbin’s injured one and the older boy yelps, covering his mouth as tears spark up in the corner of his eyes.

“Oh my god, are you okay? I’m so so so sorry!” Jisung says, eyes wide with concern as he sits upright. He reaches out to wipe Changbin’s tears without thinking and the older boy flushes, the heat of his cheeks tingling under Jisung’s touch. Jisung’s heart swells at the feeling and he feels his own body heat up in return.

“You’re okay. You, you didn’t mean it, s-so you’re good.” Changbin stutters through the pain and Jisung pouts, upset that he had hurt Changbin.

“Still, I’m sorry.” Jisung says and Changbin just huffs.

“It’s fine.” He says and before Jisung can think, he’s leaning forward, pressing a gentle kiss against Changbin’s cheek before pulling away.

“There, have a magic healing kiss.” Jisung says, triumphant in his excuse and Changbin giggles, the sound melodic and joyful, Jisung fixating on it once more. The older looks beautiful when he laughs, eyes creasing shut as a rosy layer of blush settles on his cheeks, head tilting back with joy. It makes Jisung’s mind fog up, a lovely feeling settling over his form.

When Changbin is finally calm, he looks at Jisung, a cute little smile on his face.

“You’re adorable, Ji.”

Jisung pretends he doesn’t squeak at the nickname.

*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*

Changbin is pretty sure it’s been over the promised four-hour waiting time when he feels tiredness seep into his bones, and he slumps against Jisung’s side with a sigh.

“I’m tired Ji.” Changbin mutters, check pressed comfortably against Jisung’s shoulder and the younger coos at him, running a gentle hand through his blue hair. Changbin feels Jisung press a tender kiss against the top of his head, and he blushes, glad his face is hidden from Jisung’s view.

“You wanna nap?” Jisung asks, lips still pressed against the top of his head and the words rattle down Changbin’s spine, skin rising up with goosebumps.

“No. Wanna stay awake.” Changbin mumbles. He lifts his head up off of Jisung’s shoulder, half awake and absolutely delirious, before reaching up and placing a gentle kiss against Jisung’s cheek. “Watch a movie with me?” Changbin asks, tilting his head softly and Jisung stares at him, eyes sparkly, before he flushes a light shade of red and nods his head.

“Sure.” Changbin giggles at the response before pulling out his phone and loading up Netflix. He thinks it over and settles on How To Train Your Dragon. The two snuggle into each other, eyes fixed on the movie when Jisung mumbles something into Changbin’s hair.

“You’re cute, Binnie.”

Changbin doesn’t flush, he doesn’t.

*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*

It’s been over six hours since he got here and Jisung honestly thinks he would’ve gone insane if it wasn’t for Changbin. The older boy is sleepy, head resting against Jisung’s shoulder as he watches the drama that he’d put on, but Jisung could tell Changbin was gonna properly fall asleep soon.

A nurse comes over, a soft smile on her face as she lowers her voice.

“There’s a bed available for one of you.” She says and Changbin lifts his head up then. Jisung can just make out the soft dreary blinks from the older boy and smiles softly at how adorable he is.

“Jisung can have it.” Changbin says, voice laced with sleepiness and Jisung immediately fights back, not letting Changbin give up the bed when he’d been here longer.

“You’ve been here longer than me, Bin, you take it.” Jisung says, running a gentle hand through Changbin’s deep blue hair before settling his free hand back against his leg when Changbin sits up properly.

“No it’s fine.” Changbin fights back. The two bicker on for a little while longer until Jisung gets an idea and turns to the nurse with a small frown.

“Would I be able to sit with him whilst he takes the bed? I can wait for mine.” Jisung says and the nurse nods. Changbin reluctantly accepts the agreement, and the nurse smiles before turning off to get Changbin some crutches.

Eventually, when Changbin is settled into bed and Jisung sits at a chair by his side, Changbin turns to Jisung, half-asleep.

“Promise you won’t leave me?” Changbin mumbles and Jisung giggles softly.

“I promise.” Changbin smiles in response before closing his eyes, sleep quickly overwhelming him. Jisung smiles, noting the older boy’s peaceful expression as he sleeps, before pulling out his phone to facetime Minho.

Minho responds quickly, Jeongin pressed into his side, and he chats with Jisung for a while until eventually a yawn leaves Jeongin’s lips and Minho laughs, wishing Jisung a good night and a Merry Christmas. Jisung says goodbye before the call ends, his phone screen glaring back at him, bright in the dim room that Changbin had been situated in.

Jisung sighs, staring at Changbin and the older boy’s delicate features. When the same nurse from before comes to tell him there’s a bed available for him, he smiles and asks her for a piece of paper first.

Whilst waiting for the nurse, Jisung whispers a small ‘Merry Christmas Changbin’ before turning to look at the door when the nurse comes back, the paper in tow. He quickly writes a note for Changbin before standing up and following after the blonde woman.

Jisung sinks into the bed, sighing in relief at the warmth before sleep quickly overwhelms him.

He hopes he’ll get to see Changbin again one day.

*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*

When Changbin gets woken up by a doctor, the first thing he notices is the lack of Jisung and he asks about him. The blonde nurse from earlier smiles at him and hands him a note. He tucks it into his pocket, his burning curiosity about where Jisung went coming in second place to the desire to get out of the hospital.

“What time is it?” He asks, sitting up as best as he can without jostling his leg and as the doctor gets to examining him, the nurse informs him that it’s 1:43am, Christmas Day. Changbin smiles, an expression tinged with sadness before he relaxes, allowing the doctor check him over. He pulls out the note and reads it over when he gets five minutes to spare.

Hey Bin,
Had to leave, but I hope I can see you soon.
My number is xx-xxx-xxx-xxx.
From, Jisung.
P.S. You look adorable when you sleep.

There’s a small badly drawn squirrel in the corner and Changbin smiles at it. As the doctor and nurse enter the room once more, he pockets the note and let’s them get back to work, complying with their demands.

I hope I see you again, Jisung, Changbin thinks.

*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*

As Jisung knocks on the door of his and Minho’s apartment, his phone screen blaring 8.47am at him, he yawns. The night spent in A&E had dragged and he hadn’t seen Changbin once after leaving the older boy whilst he was asleep. His arm was clad in a blue cast and when Minho opens the door, the first thing Jisung does is lift his arm up for the older to see.

“Oh god.” Minho says as he steps out of the way to let Jisung in. Jisung smiles at him appreciatively, before shrugging off his backpack and letting it clang to the floor. A sound upstairs has Jisung looking to the stairs, and it doesn’t take long for Jeongin to appear in his vision. The younger blinks drearily, clearly still fresh off of waking up, before he steps his way downstairs.

“Are you okay?” Jeongin mumbles and Jisung giggles, lifting his arm up for the younger to see. Jeongin’s eyes light up at that and he giggles. “I’m gonna write on it later.” Jisung shrugs, a soft ‘sure’ leaving his lips, before Minho interrupts both boys.

“Come on, let’s have some breakfast before we open the presents, yeah?” Minho says and Jisung’s stomach growls in response. The only food he’d gotten was the snacks he had shared with Changbin, so he was glad to have an opportunity to eat something more filling.

It’s as he’s eating (Minho had made a simple meal for him that he could eat one-handed) that his phone pings and he blearily picks it up. A message from an unknown number stares back at him but it’s the second message that makes him gasp, knee jolting up and smacking the underside of the table, catching Minho and Jeongin’s attention.

“No fucking way.”

*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*

Changbin whines as he feels someone shaking him awake. He had gotten home at 3am, Felix letting him in. The younger hadn’t been able to sleep, worried about Changbin’s state and Changbin had just shown off his cast and crutches before asking Felix to help him to bed, too tired to keep fighting the sleep any longer.

Changbin opens his eyes, wincing at the bright light that floods his bedroom. Chan and Felix are sat either side of him on his bed, Felix with a plate of food and Chan with a handful of presents around him, and he smiles at his friends.

“Merry Christmas guys.” He whispers, voice shaky with sleep and both boys return the sentiment.

“Eat up, you need the strength, Binnie.” Felix says, plate still in his grip and Changbin shuffles up, careful of his leg, before taking the plate from Felix. As he takes the first bite, he remembers something and asks for Felix to pass him his phone.

Changbin pulls up the messages app and starts a new chat, fishing through his pocket and pulling out the note from Jisung yesterday. He copies the younger’s number into his phone before texting him.

Binnie: hellllllooooooooo

Binnie: its me, changbin

Changbin stops typing before locking his phone and going to eat. Chan and Felix are staring at him, however, and he looks up at that, eyes wide.

“Who’s Jisung?” Felix says, holding the note in his grip and Changbin blushes, heat surging through him.

“Just someone I met at the hospital yesterday.” Changbin says and Felix giggles.

“You like him!” Felix sings, and Chan tries, and fails, to muffle his laugh.

“Maybe I do…”
