William grasped onto the blankets around him, trying to pull any sort of warmth from them. His breath shook as he shivered slightly. He felt a whine pass his lips as he tried pulling the blankets closer to his body. He wasn't used to this cold, sure his body had always been cold before Dakota gave him his heart.
But he never felt it.
Dakota. He was usually always warm, maybe that was from the heart but maybe it was still there. He let his eyes crack open slowly as he shuffled off of his bed, keeping the blankets wrapped around him. He shivered as he felt the cold floor. He moved towards the door slowly. The cold air nipped at his arm as he reached to open the door.
He touched the knob, letting out a shakey breath. He turned it, and pulled his door open and shuffled out. He headed to where Dakota's room was, curling his hand into a fist as he gently knocked on the door. He waited a couple moments listening to Dakota's shuffling footsteps. He watched the door open, and his gaze landed on his red-headed friend.
"Will?" Dakota sounded pretty tired. William looked at Dakota, silent for a moment. He breathed before he forgot.
"Can..- can I sleep with you, 'kota?" His voice slipped out of his mouth, shaking. He watched as Dakota looked him up and down, and he saw a soft smile appear on his face.
"Of course you can." His voice was gentle, and William felt the others warm hand grasp into his. He followed Dakota inside his room, letting out a softer less shakey breath. He almost whined as he felt Dakota's hand pull away from his own and he felt the warmth leave. He watched Dakota lay down on his bed, and then gesture for him to lay down as well.
William laid down next to Dakota, letting go of some of the blankets he was desperately grabbing onto before. Dakota shuffled closer to him, and hugged him as he pulled William a bit closer. William could feel some warmth coming off of him and he seemed to sink into that warmth.
"Thank you.." his voice was quiet, but not shakey anymore. He had stopped shivering. He was used to cuddling up with Dakota, before the heart surgery but only every once and a while. Though this seemed more special that the others. He looked at Dakota who had leaned his head onto his shoulder, already planning to go back to sleep.
William's hand moved to gently pick up Dakota's and hold it. He liked the feeling of holding Dakota's hand. He could feel the others head shift a bit on his shoulder as he took his hand. Both of them were silent, but Dakota seemed to intertwine their fingers and gently squeeze William's hand. William just sunk into the warm feeling a bit more.
A yawn left his mouth as his eyes closed. He didn't let go of Dakota's hand. He felt Dakota shift a bit, and lift his head from his shoulder. He could feel his face heat up as Dakota kissed his forehead. He opened his eyes slowly, and looked at Dakota with a soft expression. Dakota looked back at him, William could barely see a gentle blush on his face.
"Did you not like that?" Dakota asked, and before William could open his mouth to reply he spoke again, "I'm sorry." He said. William shook his head a bit, and he moved closer to Dakota.
"No, no I-.. I did like it,..it was nice." William smiled gently as he spoke, and he saw Dakota smile grow the slightest. William looked at Dakota as he slowly realized why this felt so much more special than the rest of the times they had cuddled like this.
"Dakota.." he said after a moment, and he watched a bit of confusion sprout in the others face. He spoke again before the other could. "I think, I love you." He said gently. Dakota looked at him for a moment, his smile slowly widening.
"I love you too, William." Dakota smiled as he spoke, and William felt other warm feelings start to envelop him. He simply leaned in, closed his eyes, and kissed Dakota. It was soft, and quick. The two didn't say anything more as they pulled away. They simply smiled at each other. William felt another yawn leave him, and he slowly let go of Dakota's hand before he closed his eyes.
Maybe he was glad the heater broke.
