Chapter Text

The bridge looked fucked. Namjoon gave him a side eye, “Well…” He said, he was looking for some positives, Namjoon always looked for the good in everything. Seokjin gave him a forced smile from the grass. They had been looking to travel to the ocean for quite a while, something about a boat, Seokjin trusted Namjoon.

They were held up by a massive flowing river, too dangerous to swim across. The current was too fast, they’d be taken upstream to fast if they attempted to cross it. Both of them were big alphas, but even they weren’t strong enough to withstand the current.

So they decided just to follow it along the side, waiting for it to slow or for a bridge. After two full days they came across the bridge they were looking for. “It looks just as bad as the river” Seokjin comments, he’s older than Namjoon, he’s responsible for him.

Namjoon cracks his knuckles, “We’ll go slow, guns in hand” He nods, Seokjin sighs, it should be fine. Seokjin shuffles on first, Namjoon is a pup to him, five whole years younger than himself. Its a protective alpha instinct that Seokjin has, and Namjoon deserves protecting.

The amount of times Namjoon has saved Seokjins ass is record breaking. From when they first met in that awful shopping centre too those weird church alphas. If theres one thing Seokjin knows, its that zombies aren’t the villains, its other humans.

Seokjin used to be in a group, when the whole apocalypse kicked off Seokjin was alone. He lives far from his family, never knowing what become of them, and whilst scavenging in the shopping centre he found a group of fellow survivors.

Six alphas and two omegas, it was great at first, they all lived in the mall, looking out over each other and sharing food. The trouble started when Jeongsung started acting weird with the omegas, it quickly spiralled and the other alphas started seeing him as the leader and following in his footsteps.

It made the omegas uncomfortable so he Namjoon and the two omegas, Jeongin and Yunjin just took off in the middle of the night. Seokjin shakes that thought off, he’s still shuffling across this shitty bridge, periodically checking on Namjoon behind him.

He spots a zombie, no legs, not a threat, most zombies now days aren’t. The fuckers used to /sprint/ but now days they could barely walk, they had all just weakened over time, decomposing. But still, life was forever changed, no government, no trust, just he and Namjoon.

Seokjin was a scientist, neuroscientist to be very specific, he was the very best in his field. Its why Seokjin was called in specifically to take a look at the brain of one of the first zombies they managed to contain. There was quite significant changes, Seokjin discovered you can temporarily paralyse them with quick bright flashes of light.

But who knew that a bachelors degree and a PhD would eventually amount to nothing. Seokjin couldn’t prove anything anymore, all his certificates were online and now that didn’t exist. Not alot exists anymore, no schools, no communities, just leftover zombies.

“To your left” He whispers, Namjoon nods, theres no point in using the gun, it’ll draw unwanted attention. “Did you hear that?” Both alphas duck at the unfamiliar voice, hiding behind the abandoned car, it looks like the engine has been stripped completely.

Namjoon was a doctor, a trauma surgeon, really useful for times like these. Seokjin can rest easy knowing that Namjoon would know what to do if Seokjin ever needed it. It was great having Namjoon around for other reasons as well, he was just genuinely a really great alpha.

They hear light footsteps, the zombie is reaching out for them, Seokjin hopes it doesn’t draw attention to them. “This is where Hoseok almost killed me last week” A sweet voice laughs, theres an annoyed scoff, “No this is where you almost got yourself killed last week!”

Namjoon gives Seokjin a questioning look, what the fuck are they supposed to do? They’re about half way on the bridge, too late to go back but not enough to go forwards, either way they’ll be seen. Seokjin is afraid that running could shake the whole bridge and cause it to come crashing down.

“Both of you shut the fuck up, Taehyung, go get that zombie real quick” Seokjin panics, shuffling over away from it so he cant be seen. “This ones shoes-“ Oh fuck, the boy, long black hair with dark tanned skin is giving a look of horror right at Seokjin.

Theres a moment of dreadful silence before a gun shot rolls out from behind him, Namjoon must have shot at him. Then theres the scuffle, everyone on the bridge scrambling to make it off alive. Seokjin can feel the entire bridge sway, the shot still ringing in his ears.

He pushes Namjoon away, back where they came from, briefly looking behind him when he’s hit in the head. The blow renders him useless, theres a collective muffled gasp and Seokjin looks back over to Namjoon. Or to where Namjoon /was/ because he’s gone, Seokjins vision is so blurred.

Then another blow comes to the back of his head, he slumps to the floor, noticing a hole in the floor of the bridge that Seokjin cant remember if it was there before. Seokjin is aware of how fucked he is, completely vulnerable around a group of strangers.

What is it this time? Cannibals? Sadists? Seokjin hopes that they just shoot him in the face so he doesn’t have to put up with any of the horrors. He can hear muffled speaking, his vision blurs, hopefully he doesn’t suffer.
