Chapter Text

Hecate would sometimes wish for peaceful days.

“No no-gah, Hella! Be careful you don’t want to break it!” The self-proclaimed uncrowned queen of Syndicate said.

“Shut the fuck up! It’s not gonna break, have some good ole FAITH in me will ya’?” Hella said back.

Hecate had to watch this go on for the past few minutes. It was free-time in the MBCC so sinners could go around a bit more freely than what would usually be cautioned.

Unfortunately, due to last week’s game night that had ended up with the controllers being broken by EMP she had decided that it would be fine to go have fun around the Bureau. Today however, she had enlisted the two of them for help on something.

Hecate said no. Hella said yes. Of course EMP listens to the one that agrees with her.

Hecate was stuck having a halo on her head while watching the two sinners have those evil grins she hears that cartoon shows have.

“This will end up in violation of the MBCC rules” Hecate had warned them from the sideline, drawing the scene in her sketchbook.

“Don’t be such a worry-wart Hecate”.

“Yeah, trust us it will be fine! But-oh- but just in case, Hella stand in front of me will ya?” EMP had pushed the smaller girl in front of her, leaving a whack on the girls side.

“No way! I'm not taking the blame alone when this was our plan!”

“Fine, fine, alright! Hey, Hecate, what time is it?” Emp asked.

“40 seconds from turning 1:30; Nightmare spots people walking down the corridor to this vending machine…” Hecate answered, grabbing her sketchbook and moving out of the way with Emp and Hella following suit.

“It’s almost time!” Emp whispered-yelled.

“Yeah and you're going to get us caught if you don't shut it.”

“Hey-I’m not the only one who's talking here!”

“24 seconds” Hecate answered, still drawing in her sketchbook.

A few more seconds had passed, the footsteps gradually becoming louder.

“Yeah; should have seen her! So upset that I beat her in that game!” That sounded like their target!

“A win out of the many times you have lost, I assume?” And that sounded like a good violation put in place on them. Hella and EMP froze for a moment, quickly turning the corner after the loud bucket slammed on the ground.

Covered in glitter and white paint; their prank on Mess was successful! “That’s what you get for getting me to lose when I was close to beating you!” EMP had wanted to say.

“Ah fuck” Hella said. Also covered in white paint and glitter was the current Chief of the MBCC.

“...Mission completed. Prank Mess is mildly successful” Hecate stated after a few moments of silence.

“Huh? Oh come on! That’s just being a sore loser!” Mess whined, trying to get the paint from her eyes.

“Me? A sore loser?! You cheated your way to that win!”

Mess has turned and huffed at Hella, “And what did I do to you? I thought we got over that whole Ambrosia situation?”

“Oh no yeah-we did. Ninety-Nine was out on a dispatch and EMP had come up with the idea. I just wanted to see it all unfold.” she chuckled.

“I’m just wondering where you even got this from? The Black Market sells this stuff?” Chief muttered. After another moment Mess turned to Hecate.

“I know those two would do something like this- not on me but still. But YOU miss-gloom-and-doom?” Mess pointed towards Hecate. The Chief had turned and sighed looking at the three sinners- some of the first three she ever really got to ‘fight’ alongside with.

A moment of silence passed.

Multiple footsteps could be heard down the halls as the three girls ran as fast as they could. Mess was behind them screaming out for revenge while Chief was behind all of them trying to control it before it got into a situation. Chief would rather not be scolded by Langley and Nightingale for this.

Hecate would sometimes wish for peaceful days. But knowing where she is and who she talks with; that will never truly happen.

She doesn’t mind though. Makes the sleepless nights feel a little better. Just a little.

Chapter 2

Summary:

Chelsea stop bringing the workers!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The Chief sighed, looking towards the silent sinner in front of them.

Chelsea was quiet—more quiet than ever. The Countess was usually so bubbly. Well to be honest if she did speak at that moment it probably wouldn’t have looked good upon her. And besides if the Chief didn’t act upon this she would probably be scolded by the higher ups. Not to mention it was part of the job description…this bullshit Chief job description that was thrown onto her.

“So…Chief, you’ve brought me here to accept being my sugar baby?” Chelsea asked, a blush present on her face.

Chief would normally say no (and she still will honestly), yet this time she just took the cake.

“You do know why you’re here right? After all that it should be obvious, I know you’re not dumb” Chief stated.

Chief was enjoying the fresh air from outside the Bureau; around this time meant the Sinners could do as they pleased for a while. As long as that was within the rules and regulations of the MBCC.

Sadly that wouldn’t happen.

Trying to fill out this paperwork was hard enough; next thing the Chief knew she had loud music blaring near her as a parade..a god damn parade passes by. Chief at first struggles to understand how floats and performers even got here, upon closer inspection they were just workers here.

The float…the floats were shiny. The sunlight that reflected off of the gems on the float made the Chief just want to steal faye’s glasses—

Wait a minute, gems?

Oh god-

“Ahem, the Countess has given her order. She orders the Chief of the Bureau to accept the sugar baby offer at once with no delay!” Chief saw the officer with a speaker state on the top of one of the smaller floats.

The Chief can only assume that the last float is Chelsea, it just screams her. Very fancy, very sparkly. This was starting to get out of hand; some of the staff members had come out to see- with the some sinners not far behind.

Chief fears she won't be able to escape some of the teasing.

As the last float comes by and stops; on top of it is Chelsea using her whole arm to wave at the chief with a bright smile. “Chief, yo! I spent some gems to convince the Bureau's staff to organize this parade for me. It’s turned out even better than I imagined.”

There was a bit the Chief could try and look into with this: Knowing Chelsea ‘some gems’ to her means a whole month's paycheck for the staff that took part in it.

Chelsea said, “So, do you accept my offer?” Chief wanted to tell her that this was ridiculous. But looking at the cat-like lady on top of the float she didn’t have it in her heard to be rude.

.

Wails echoed around the courtyard immediately.

“Chief please! Look at all these gems! You don’t want a single one of them?!” It sounded like the Countess was essentially at her wits end. Even though she knows some sinners are watching and most definitely will tell the others, she kept wailing.

“Please forgive me, my lady. I’m unable to accept your offer at this moment,” Chief stated, “But more importantly, you have severely violated the Sinner rules, my lady. Let's get you to my office.” the Chief gently held onto Chelsea’s hand and started to walk away. “Any staff who participated in this shall have their bonus redacted this month. Hecate please go get their IDs for me and write them down?”

“Oh, that! …Well I wanted you to be my-”

“Sugar baby, yes I know you’ve been trying for a while now. You keep doing that same joke over and over.” Chief sighed and rubbed her head. This was going to be yet another report she had to write.

“Because it’s not a joke! I'm serious Chief, I want to be your sugar mama.” Chelsea huffed out.

“You know I have to put you in a confinement cell for a few days for this?”

“..Can’t you just take a few gems and call it a day?”

“No.”

“...” Chelsea looked down and the Chief utterly sighed. It was hard to get too mad at her Sinners, she was known to have a soft spot in her heart for them. The Chief doesn’t have any memories, but she knows her life would probably be dull without them.

The Chief presses her hand against the Countess’ face, “If you are on good behavior Ill let you out a few days early, okay?”

The Countess gleamed and nodded. After a moment guards came to her office to take her to the confinement cell. Chief sighed and she went to her desk, looking at the paperwork she had to fill out and she was going to get started.

That was until there was a call on the phone for her.

“Hello?” Someone with higher power probably; or maybe Nightingale wishing for the scheduled delivery of next week’s lunch-

“I heard there was a parade today. All for you, Rookie. How exciting that must of bee-” Chief cut Langley off by simply hanging up the phone. She was definitely getting a talking to for that later…thinking about it is now really giving her a headache.

Notes:

Fun fact if you play the game and have her this is actually canon; she does this from the supervision terminal!

Chapter 3

Summary:

Who made this bill?!

Chapter Text

“Hold on there, you need to pay some discoins if you wish to speak with Miss. Luvia Ray” a hand was held out, beckoning the person to give up their expenses. The person got into the pocket dropping the coins into the hand before leaving.

It was odd, to say the least. Luvia had been sent out on a dispatch with Roulecca and Demon…a weird combination but it was the Chief's orders; she wouldn’t want to go against her- not after all she had done for her and Ray.

“Don’t forget- your limited time to bear..? Bear beanie! Currently the most popular item in the MBCC- Hey!” The lucky girl was cut off by Demon grabbing the beanie. Luvia, to say in the nicest way possible, was a bit intimidated by his stature.

Ray would say he is a god damn giant.

Luvia can hear in her head though how that's good- how scoundrels don't mess with her ‘stupid self’ and the brat while he is around with them. He usually seemed pretty lonely- and Luvia had really wanted to become on good terms with him; yet the problem was she was too scared. Not to mention sometimes she would see him look down at this book before looking back up at her just… staring .

“We finished our dispatch mission- we will be heading back to the Bureau.” he stated and started to walk away.

“What.? What the fuck, hey come back here! That beanie can make a profit!” Roulecca whined.

“I didn’t think you would be one to be so interested in money..” Luvia said.

“Yeah but- think about it, with my sinner ability I can probably snag some extra coins from the losers who don’t know how to look.” The expression made by Rouclecca had made Luvia grow concerned.

“We are not stealing discoins from people. Unless they deserve it.” Demon added in.

They were walking through the streets of Eastside, heading back to where the MBCC car was parked so that they could head on back to the Bureau. Was. Because as soon as they turned the corner into the shopping district there just had to be an auction.

And of course Roulecca just had to join.

Luvia could hear Ray screaming out at Roulecca in her head- starting to get where she couldn’t hear her own thoughts.

“..I suggest you sit down, this might be a bit. I’ll inform the officer of our delay..” Demon stated.

A few minutes had passed and the auction was still going on. If Luvia turned her head towards the auction she couldn’t hear her own thoughts. So she looked around- but what had caught her attention was a notebook. That same notebook Demon always seemed to carry around whenever they passed each other at the Bureau.

“Um..Mr. Demon?” Luvia started, feeling a little shy, “Sorry to bother you-Urm…what kind of notebook is that? Is it a journal?”

The large man turned around to stare at Luvia. Even though in the background loud noises can be heard from the auction the silence between them was louder.

It took a few more seconds before he spoke up, “Yes.”

“Oh! Oh that’s nice…I was just wondering because I always see you carry that around whenever I pass by..sorry for asking-”

“Can..you sign this one page?” He asked, carefully turning the pages to this one near the beginning. Looking at it closer it shows very neat handwriting all about.

Herself.

Along the side were doodles that looked like her.

“Oh yes of course! I’m so glad to have a fan!” Luvia always came prepared for this, grabbing a pen from her side. Before the ink could even tap at the page she heard from the man.

“..Please sign it to Vera.” Even with his deep voice, the sentence was very low to hear.

“That is a very pretty name..” She said, writing down her signature.

No words were spoken at that moment. But all Luvia could do was smile. From his tone something must have happened, she isn’t going to pry. Not to mention the loud laugh of their fellow sinners from afar.

“I would say I’m all lucked out, but that’s a lie!” Luvia turned to see the girl carrying a bunch of..random stuff.

“Are you even allowed to have all that stuff in there?”

“...Dang it,” Roulecca groaned and turned to Demon. “Aww you waited for Roulecca? How sweet!”

“I can’t let you wander yourself like you did just a moment ago.”

“Ah boo hoo don't have such a pipe up your ass. Ah, here!” She placed all the stuff she had won into Luvia’s arms without even asking if she would mind before grabbing the beanie from Demon’s pocket and putting it on his head, “There we go! ..Wait it still looks likes you have a pipe up your ass.” Roulecca said.

Demon could only sigh as he trailed behind Roulecca and Luvia- as the latter tried to get the stuff back into the lucky girl's arms. Demon still felt as bad as he always did. He still feels guilty for all that had happened in his past. But for a second, a smile could be seen on his face.

If the other two noticed, they said not a word.

“That is the report of the dispatch, Chief! I think it went well.” Luvia said, dropping the shiny materials onto the desk. Luvia felt bad for the Chief, she heard that not only did she have multiple meetings with Bureau members and the FAC, but also one with Miss. Langley.

She can feel her energy being drained just from standing in front of her.

“Thank you, Luvia. Before you go I have a question to ask. How come there is a bill for 5600 discoins that was sent to the Bureau?” Chief asked.

Luvia smiled at the Chief, giving her best laugh. Chief could only chuckle.

The actress ran out of the office as fast as she could.

Chapter 4

Summary:

That's really not how you play!

Chapter Text

Stargazer had been, in all honesty, enjoying her time at the MBCC. Surprisingly to her she had thought that this place would just be another nuisance; yet another example of hypocrisy by the humans her little monster liked to be around.

Wasn’t like that at all. Ever since she got here she would do fortune tellings for those who asked and gave something in turn (even if she really didn’t like to delve into their pleasantries much). Good thing as well, remembering how this one girl had offered her milk as if there wasn’t word of how that milk got the Chief sick.

Stargazer even remembered giving that foul-mouth girl a fortune, saying how her beanie was lucky. Ever since - it has become a really popular fashion choice in the MBCC.

Yet, if there was something Stargazer found quite fun, it was a game that was played often by some…And seemingly could only be mastered by skill and skill alone.

Just Prance.

“This was a fun round, can we do more?” Hamel asked. She was a dancer, apparently well known in Eastside for a while too. And while Stargazer isn’t a professional, it was part of her tribe's culture to partake in for fun. “I’m not quite tired yet and it is fun playing this with you.”

A while ago she had stumbled on some Sinners playing this game. While Mess and EMP had been going back and forth about one upping each other, her gaze had been focused on the dancer who kept getting quite good scores.

“It is quite exhilarating. We can go another round…And what about you?” Stargazer turned to the girl lying on the floor who had insisted she try this. “If you had just wanted to gain endurance, why not go to Macchiato?”

“Heh…this seems..more active.. And-” Horo started off before being cut off.

“It’s because I’m here, no need to lie Horo,” Zoya laughed standing up. “Alright, get up. I want a shot at this.”

Horo let out a whine before getting up and heading to sit.

Stargazer has seen and heard of her before. Quite intimidating up close actually. Yet compared to all she has seen in WhiteSands, Zoya somewhat is tamer in comparison.

“So I just move around and make sure to time it right? Hmph, easy.”

“Ah…a little confident aren’t we?” Stargazer said stretching and getting ready.

“Just a little.” Zoya smirked.

And so the game began.

Yet not even a minute into the game there was an issue.

“You do realize you are supposed to be dancing?’ Stargazer said, dancing to the screen character.

“That’s too much energy wasted. If it works it works.” Zoya said. Despite the title of the game being ‘Just Prance’ where you are supposed to move your whole body around, Zoya is just standing there moving her arm.

“That’s not how you play.”

“It’s how I’ll win though.”

“It’s not a matter of you winning, it's how the game is supposed to be played.”

“Oh yeah? I see no rule against it.”

Stargazer would dislike these cocky people. The flaws within humans are always accurately portrayed by arrogance such as this.

Despite Stargazer and Hamel going at the game with very good scores; scores that normally - normally would be good enough to beat even the most involved gamers like EMP. Compared to Zoya’s score it was disastrous.

She kept getting perfect on every . single . move .

By the end of the game, Zoya had come in first place.

“That was a fun game. I enjoyed it!” Hamel said. Even after getting a loss she was still elegant with it. Humble about it.

Unlike the actual winner.

“Ah, wow. That’s what Horo was having a tough time with! That’s funny.” Zoya said, “Yeah yeah interesting game.”

“How did you get perfect scores? You weren't even moving..” Stargazer asked. Zoya looked over and laughed.

“All with good coordination. But I gotta hand it to you both, the way you moved is real pretty,” Zoya had at this point walked over and started patting their heads. “Even gave Horo a tough time. When the Legion was more…active - she was the most energetic of the bunch. Means you got skill.”

Hamel had smiled and gave her thanks while Stargazer had a small flush on her face. Arrogant as she was, at least she did not seem like a total loss.

“Oh, Zoya? What about another round? Perhaps this time you would like to dance with us?” Hamel started only to earn a chuckle and a sake of the head.

“If I do join, I'm not dancing.”

“Is it because you don’t know how to?” Stargazer started and smiled. It was a mischievous smile she had always given her little monster.

Zoya stared at her for a moment before Hamel spoke up, “Oh really? How about we teach you!” She started with a bright smile on her face.

“Ah..haha no.”

.

.

.

The Chief had been going around. She still had lots of paperwork to do when she got back, as she had to make up for some of her personal funds lost when Roulecca went out to an auction. The items she bought apparently weren’t even valuable. The Chief had half a mind to go to the Countess and ask for some gems….

The Chief had gone to the recreational area, hoping for a drink while she was on her short break. Only as the Chief entered did she see a weird sight.

Stargazer and Hamel teaching Zoya how to do those turns she would often see the two doing. Horo also joined in on some of the fun.

Chief had to rub her eyes for a moment, really feeling like this is from a lack of sleep. But nope as she opened it, Zoya had done a complete spin and the two praised her for it.

Chief was just about to go in and question them, yet thinking about it for another moment she smiled and walked to the vending machine to get some water. She will let her sinners have their fun. Seeing her Sinners have fun always gave her something to work harder towards.

Walking towards the vending machine, Chief went to get her wallet and get discoins for the vending machine.

Nothing was in there.

The Chief had but sighed and taken out her terminal, “Hello..Nightingale? Yes, can you get Hella to bring me some discoins? …Yes I’m out of it.”

Chapter 5

Summary:

..My name does not sound similar to that game

Chapter Text

“Une! I win!! I win!” Oliver cheered. Crache and Oliver were playing some card games they found. They had also invited Dolly but they were training at that moment.

“You win again. You’ve been getting good at those games,” Crache commented - starting to restack all of the cards, “Do you want to play another round?”

“Ehh..I dunno..this game can be pretty boring after a while. Oh - what about that game? The one I usually see Miss. Nox play?” Oliver suggested.

“..Creature Crossing?”

“No, a different one! It sounds similar to your name!”

“..Crash Bandihoot?”

“Uh-huh!” Oliver smiled, “Maybe we can go ask to play with her!”

Crache blinked. Wasn’t Miss Nox an adult? She didn’t really think about relying on an adult- let alone talking to one.

Well, besides the Chief who was just insistent on getting her to open up to other adults here. Which; ok, they’re not as bad as the ones she had met. The ones who would abandon the young. But still they’re just..weird.

Crache could recount the times of some of the women giving Chief problems. Or when they always start chaos during lunch time..not to mention that weird doctor lady who to her always seems so condescending.

Or that lady who just yesterday managed to put some weird virus on some workers' terminals. And later that same day passing by the restrooms to hear her throwing up.

And then there was Nox in the bunch of chaos. Sitting far away from others during lunch; or even being the only one in there when the rest are finished and off to do something else.

Very weird indeed.

“I know that look, Crache. Come on..when is the last time you think she had company.” Oliver said.

“The Chief is usually near her.”

“But she’s been busy these days..Haven’t even spoken to the Chief in a while.”

Oliver had whined but before Crache could put in another interjection Oliver grabbed her hand and started walking off, “She might be in the recreational area. It’s about training time for most anyways!”

Crache enjoyed Oliver’s company. She couldn’t really say no to him…her...them? Crache couldn’t say no to Oliver. Very manipulative if you ask her. At least Oliver was careful enough to hop over the shadows on their way there.

They had finally reached the recreational area. And it was eerie…no life was there.

But in the corner was a corpse, playing on this game console while watching a large screen.

“Oh there she is!” Oliver had let go and went towards Nox, Crache close behind Oliver.

“Hello Miss. Nox!”

“...”

“What game is that?” Oliver asked.

Crache turned her head…it was Creature Crossing. She didn’t really expect that from Nox.

“Creature Crossing..”

“Oh that’s cool! But..why not play something else? Were wanting to play Crash Bandihoot.”

“...Chief prefers games that don't include fighting.”

Ah, figures. Often hearing how Chief would have to isolate Nox so other people don’t faint when she is around often. That can get lonely.

Wait a moment didn’t that mean they were bound to pass out too?

“Ah that sucks..We can still play this game together though!” Quickly descending onto a seat near Nox Oliver stared at the screen. Crache felt somewhat bad. And was most definitely not going to leave Oliver by themself; so with a sigh she got a space close to Oliver and started playing.

A while has passed; and Crache was starting to feel the effects of Nox’s abilities. Oliver had already fallen asleep. Yet, sooner or later it could have worse consequences than just a quick nap.

“Training time will be over for the others soon..we should be leaving you be.” Crache said, getting ready to drag Oliver away. As per normal- the corpse said nothing and continued to play. Continuing to hover over an item for a long while.

‘Amber’.

Inside of it was a dead looking bug. Most certainly would think of it to be dead after all that supposed time stuck in there.

Realizing it actually - during the time when Oliver was still up most of the time was looking for this fossil. Specifically that one.

“Were you trying to complete a collection?” Crache asked, dropping to the ground.

“...No”

“Then…why were you trying to spend your time looking..” A thud was heard and Nox turned to the side. Noticing that both of them were now asleep on the floor.

“..I don’t know..”

By the time Crache and Oliver woke up it was near dinner time. They looked to see a scraped up looking black cape on top of them.

Chapter 6

Summary:

Happy Birthday Chelsea!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The Countess was having…honestly, it wasn’t a bad day - but it wasn’t a good day. Really a far cry from how outgoing she usually is.

It was her birthday! She had sent papers to the Chief, even making sure to double check them, asking to go out with her to this very fancy restaurant in the Eastside. Despite the multiple failed attempts to try and get the Chief to be her sugar baby she wasn’t going to give up that easily.

She had been planning this day for days on end - even being on her best behavior so that they could go out and she could spoil her without the Chief having the option to say no. And yet, despite all of her best efforts the Chief had declined her request to go out.

Which honestly was a big shock to her.

Knowing the Chief and how she rarely tolerates her wants of being a sugar mama is fine, every sinner there knows that. But to outright reject even hanging out with her? It made the Countess’ face fall.

She had wanted to go to their office and ask why - or even just relax there for the time being..does she not know that it’s her birthday? Chelsea wouldn’t put it past her; she is busy overseeing the other sinners anyways. Other sinners who are calmer than she is. Yet, Chelsea knows that the Chief isn’t that kind of person.

She had gotten up and went around. Just because part of her plan got put on hold doesn’t mean the rest of it will be bad!

And then it got worse.

“Bai..what are you all doing?”

Across from her was Whitestone Industries. Seemed like they were pushing a large box of..something? Couldn’t really tell but from the looks of it and given the ‘fragile’ label on it it must be decently important. They seemed to be working hard to move it.

“Hmm? Oh Chelsea. We're…busy at the moment.”

“‘We’re’? Che and I are the only ones pushing this thing!” K.K. said. Sending a sharp glare towards Bai Yi’s way.

“Wha- hey! I’m supervising this whole thing as the boss!”

“What supervision? This crate fell on my foot more times than I think I blinked today.” Che responded by moving the crate away.

Bai Yi grunts before turning, “As you can see we were busy today. Don’t worry, next time we see each other you can treat us to hotpot!”

Isn’t it a courtesy to treat the person instead of asking for them to treat?

“Ah, no worries. Say, do you know where the Chief is? I wanna talk to them.”

They stood still for a moment before hurrying up for a moment, “Ah! Sorry sorry..no idea!”

And that is how it went for the rest of the day. Chelsea wants to spend time with other sinners to brighten her mood only to get promptly shut down. Or being told that the Chief is busy. She didn’t even see Hella or Hecate today…meaning it must be true.

It was her birthday today and she couldn’t even spend time with the people she called important.

Feeling defeated today; she headed back to her cell to rest for the rest of the day. And perhaps sleep off the memory.

But as fate would have it; that also wouldn’t be the case today. Getting to her cell she saw on her couch a box. There was a note on top - with a signing from Hecate.

“Come near the front of the MBCC once you are done..Hecate” Chelsea had read the note. Taking the top off the box she had seen such a very pretty dress. Covered in gems; there was even a pretty bloody pearl necklace for her.

“Could..this be from the Chief?” Chelsea had questioned; finishing getting dressed.

It was.

Once done she had gone to where Hecate was - only for them to surprisingly leave the MBCC with no resistance and go all the way to Eastside. To her home.

Going inside her home, she was instructed by the girl to go upstairs. She smiled at the sight.

“Chief..what is all of this?” Chelsea questioned. Being led to a fancy looking dinner table by said Chief. They were in such a lovely outfit as well. “I thought you had forgotten your birthday…”

“Wouldn’t be possible. I remember all of your birthdays.” The Chief responded in kind with a smile on her face.

“But..every time I asked others what you were doing - they all said you were busy?” The Chief found Chelsea adorable at this moment. Looking like a confused cat.

“I was. Busy planning this for you…I know playing those sinners is coming out of my personal wallet though..” The Chief sighed before laughing and pointing towards the window.

Gazing outside her eyes brightened at the sight of colorful lights. Fireworks blasting outside her home in the shapes of gems and kittens. There was really only one person who knew she truly had liked these precious items.

“So…Happy Birthday Chelsea!”

In an instant, the Countess had hugged the Chief so tight she thought she would pass out.

Chapter 7

Summary:

Are you sure it’s not contagious?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Mr. Fox was starting to become more concerned for the sanity of the people who work at the MBCC. Himself included.

Sitting on the floor inside a storage closet was himself and a few other sinners as well. A few minutes ago Kawa-Kawa had essentially dragged him inside the storage unit when he was just on his way to the cafeteria to get a coffee. Now he is sitting on a floor, with other sinners as well. And he was starting to realize some repetition in this kids actions.

“Could you please explain to me why you’ve gathered us here?” Mr. Fox had asked pushing up his glasses.

“Well..Haven’t you noticed anything weird with the ladies recently?”  Kawa-Kawa asked.

The storage area fell silent for a moment, Mr. Fox honestly thought it was ridiculous - but he could see where the kid was coming from. For the past few days most of the sinners in the MBCC have been acting weirdly. From starting up arguments for what, to him, seemed like trivial matters. To crying at the drop of a pin.

Wolverine was the first one to acknowledge that, “Yes…Got scared when they argued.”

“That’s true! When I came to hide in here Wolfie here was already here.” Kawa agreed, which earned him a glare from the wild boy. And a snarl from his badger friend.

“So what…don’t they argue all the time? When you’re stuck in here for most of your time…arguments are going to pop up?” Oliver asked.

Kawa-Kawa shook his head, “No no the Chief usually lets us have a good amount of freedom. Besides, she has also been acting weird! I went to give my report about last weeks expedition from White Sands and she sounded tired.”

Demon sighed and Mr. Fox groaned before speaking up, “She is going to be tired - she is usually in charge of this rambunctious group.”

“Fine fine…get at me all you want for that. But even Hecate was acting weird!”

Now that..that was suspicious. Hecate is usually known to be very stoic, usually seen with he Chief or with Hella and EMP. And while weird is a phrase that is rarely used to describe her, this time that word has a different effect. With Kawa-Kawa stating this, it got the sinners attention.

“Weird how..” Mr. Fox questioned.

“Well..to start with two days ago she seemed really tired. Even sleeping nearby the Chief’s desk. Then yesterday, when I tried to talk to her she seemed to be oozing out hostility! I didn’t want her to sick Nightmare on me so I booked it out.”

Wolverine nodded, “They change so fast..either too sweet or too mean…”

“Yeah that is weird. Three days ago Ignis told me to pick up more chocolate than what she usually eats as well.” Oliver commented, “Said she didn’t feel like getting up from the ground.”

Mr. Fox could hear an agreement with the mention of Nintey-Nine thrown in there. They continued to talk Mr. Fox found it more suspicious. Was it a symptom of mania that was wrecking havoc at the Bureau? No can’t be - mostly everyone here are sinners..meaning those shackles the Chief has maintains it. Not to mention that fact it seems to be affecting only the females here.

Wait a fucking minute.

Before Mr. Fox could comment on the boys stupidity (not to mention his own at not realizing sooner) Demon had spoken up with a grunt, “To me it just sounds like they’re on their menstrual cycle.”

The two boys and Oliver turned and blinked, only getting an ‘ooh’ of acknowledgement from Oliver. The other two on the other hand, looked more confused than ever.

“What’s that?” Kawa-Kawa asked.

“You know…a period!” Oliver stated.

“What’s a period…” Wolverine questioned with a tilt of his head. The badger following his moves.

“Huh? How old are you all?” Mr. Fox asked.

“Apparently not old enough to know what a period is.” Demon said, a rare smirk played across his face.

Kawa-Kawa could only scratch his head, “Um..I lived in WhiteSands. So I’m more knowledgeable on that than whatever a period could be..”

“Is it a sickness?” Wolverine sked.

Mr. Fox looked over towards Demon. If he remembered correctly the former FAC member had a younger sister. However once his gaze met the bulky man’s his head had turned away! He would rather not explain it honestly..

“It’s….something that happens to a woman every month until they become older”

“It helps them prepare for babies!”

Mr. Fox glared at Oliver. While Oliver wasn’t wrong…still it was quite a crude way to put it.

“B-babies?! But..I don’t see their stomachs getting bigger yet!” Kawa-Kawa exclaimed with a blush present on his face.

“You know what pregnancy is but not a period..” Demon questioned with a sigh.

“Is that why you have us in this storage area? Wasting our time?”

Kawa-Kawa let out s self conscious laugh, “I had..uh I had thought that it was some contagious disease they were spreading. I got worried.”

There was quite a few problems with that. To start with - why didn’t he just got to Iron or even Anne!

“Well if you thought it was so contagious, why is Cinnabar here?”

Throughout this whole ordeal in the near back of the area was Cinnabar, and she was fully invested into this whole conversation. Mr. Fox couldn’t tell whether the former Serpent Eye member was concerned or not. She hid it well with professionalism.

“Huh? What do you mean? I didn’t want him to get infected with this..period either. Besides, he also came here after I asked if he wanted to hide.” Kawa-Kawa said, confusion laced within his tone. Mr. Fox had the urge to pull out his hair.

“You dimwit, Cinnabar is a girl! A ‘contagious’ one as you may call her!” Mr. Fox exclaimed. Kawa-Kawa looked like he gave himself whiplash for how fast he turned around to stare at Cinnabar. Her face went into a blushing mess, “That’s a girl?!”

“Do you not see her breasts!” Mr. Fox yellowed out.

“Huh? I should be looking there!?” Kawa had hid his face at this point.

Oliver had gotten up at the argument and skipped over to Cinnabar before pushing his face against her heart, “Definitely a Ma’am!” Oliver smiled, hugging her. At this point Cinnabar feels like she should have picked somewhere else to hide, “Ah..please keep an appropriate distance..”

Wolverine had enough of this however. His badger friend was starting to become frenzied by the noise going on. And weren’t they suppose to be hiding? Why are they so loud? Also he has a question.

“..Why are you hiding here then?” He looked towards Cinnabar. She looked up towards him, feeling a bit relieved that the noise had somewhat calmed down at the question.

“Hiding from McQueen.”

“You mean that sinner that recently got here?” Mr. Fox questioned.

“Yes. Her personality is..straightforward to say the least. Went on a dispatch with her yesterday and for most of that time she was flirting with me. Safe to say that it was quite challenging to focus on the task at hand.

She hasn’t left me alone since.” Cinnabar finished, a blush returning to her face.

Mr. Fox finally sighed and got up, “Well, being here has been a complete waste of my time..I need to head out anyways for—“ Before he opened the door he heard some voices going back and forth. Going outside would just make sure he gets stuck in whatever the hell is happening outside, “Does anyone have cards..”

Kawa-Kawa had went into his backpack to get some out. It seems like that thing was an endless void. Oliver had tugged Cinnabar along to join them while Wolverine got closer.

Demon sighed looking at them setting up the game. Seemed like it would be a while before they left.

Whenever other staff members passed by the storage unit they swear they could hear curses from the storage unit.

Chapter Text

Film day for sinners was usually chaotic, barely anyone had a shred of sanity in the damn place. Watching movies chosen at random, arguments over characters popping up, sinners (usually the younger and louder ones) trying to get the last piece of snacks on the tables. All in all it was oddly peaceful.

Oddly enough. It is one of Joan’s favorite day of the month. She could usually just sit down and enjoy her coffee and strawberry cake along with others. This movie night, a movie was picked that was directed by this famous director, Deren.

The night was smooth.

Ish.

Smooth-ish.

It had gotten to a fun scene in this movie. Cute scene, Joan can admit. Until she heard something too familiar.

“Hey..isn’t that one of Anavrin’s songs? I recognize the lyrics…” Che commented. An off-handed commented not really worth the attention. Until those words reach Joan’s ears that is.

“Sure seems like it..sounds a bit off though.” Peggy stated, turning towards Joan. The fellow musician looked angry— no. That was too nice of a statement.

Joan is pissed.

“Off? I think it sounds catch-“ Flora was speaking, but before another word could be uttered out of her mouth Peggy put her hand over it glaring at the girl.

“What..What the actual fuck?” Joan huffed out. This wasn’t what she had wanted for the legacy of Anavrin. Not for the rock and metal group she spent her crafts on to be turned into some bubbly-pop for fuckng Eastsiders.

The last time she had heard this was when the band's former bassist had signed a contract with…what was that company’s name?

Joan marched over to where the Chief was sitting, unaware of what was going on and happily watching the movie next to other sinners. Grabbing the remote and fast forwarding towards the credits. Now this got the sinners attention; they complained about wanting to see the rest but Joan was not having it.

End credits was in a fancy way— of course it would be with Deren being the director of it. It was until she saw the song and company.

“Quinn Entertainment…those sleazy bastards really turned the groups hard work into this?” She kept getting angry by the moment. A moment of silence passed, then another. Joan turned around to see some sinners staring at her- others staring at this fancy looking lady. Honestly, Joan kinda- really - doesn’t know who she is. “What?”

“Quinn? That’s the company Eirene is the president of…” Hella stated, turning her gaze back and forth from the two sinners while sitting herself in Nintey-Nine’s lap.

“Yes..but that is just a subsidiary company of mine. Has it’s own manger of which we have meetings quarterly.” Eirene replied.

Joan wanted to feel angry at Eirene, at something , but honestly it would be a waste of her strength. She just wants to let out a sigh or something. Throwing over the remote for the Chief to catch she got up and left.

Didn’t even get to get her strawberry cake.

Joan had been sitting here for who knows how long. She had left the movie night and just went outside for some fresh air. Being out here alone with Krist brings back memories of her playing in Syndicate. But..it’s quiet.

Krist, a good memory of the band, one of her only companions to remind her of the old times back when Anavrin was still going strong, Joan could honestly laugh at how she mad herself sound so damn old.

Yet, she also just felt like shit. Genuine crap. Throwing a tantrum in the middle of the movie night like she was a spoiled kid. She could groan at the memory of what she did a few hours ago.

“Ah…that was something.” Joan scoffed with a smile, “What would you say now huh? Probably some sentimental shit, am I right?” She sighed, picking up her companion ready to turn around only to be greeted by the sight of Peggy and..Nox? The Grim Reaper?

“This is the Syndicate gangster rapper!” Peggy started walking up. A moment passed before she turned and cough, “Cmon..your turn.”

“…Who are you looking as sad as a loser.” Nox said, earning a sigh from Peggy.

“At least get the lyrics right.. Hey girl, you feeling alright?” Peggy asked. Joan gave a laugh; thankful for Peggy’s company. At least one musician could understand how she felt about this.

“Don’t tell me your here to comfort me like I’m a damn child.”

“Nah, see you got your stuff figured out. Venting your heart out with music, not like I haven’t done that before.”

The grip of Krist became tighter, “I’m fine. Could be worse, but I’ll live. Gotta apologize to the Chief though. Didn’t mean to interrupt Movie Night.”

Peggy laughed, “Didn’t really interrupt it— after you left some sinners became interested in the original so Chief showed off some music your group did…the ones from Syndicate enjoyed it a bit more.” Peggy chuckled.

“Figures…why is she here then?” Joan pointed towards Nox, who was just standing watching the two.

“Ah…became a big fan of this one song of yours. Really enjoyed the heavy metal aspect to yo stuff.”

Joan blinked. Nox a fan of heavy metal? I mean, with the nickname Grim Reaper the sinners have for her it makes sense - but her music specifically?

“If possible, I want to hear you play…” Nox’s echoing voice came out almost making the guitarist get goosebumps.

Almost.

She let out a laughed and stretched, “Want to hear the original? Good. Get ready for a private show!” Joan got out Krist ready to play. Peggy wasn’t going to leave, Nox enjoyed Anavrin’s songs. She had almost forgot the feeling of having others enjoy the genre that is played in Discity.

She was playing for the legacy her band had. For the memories she had.

It made her smile.

Chief had swung by, wanting to give Joan a strawberry cake, hoping it would make the sinner feel better about what happened with Anavrin. She last heard from Nightingale that she went outside alone.

Expecting to see a weeping sinner, Chief blinked out seeing the rapper and grim reaper bouncing to Anavrin’s songs. Joan had a smile on her face while playing too.

Chief could only chuckle and sit down, waiting for the mini concert to be over. Watching the performance, while making a mental note to ask Joan to play for other sinners more often.

B rank sinners deserves more love and honestly I find Joan pretty cool! Thank you all for 1k hits :>

Chapter Text

Langley found it funny, really. Even after being incarcerated for being a sinner, and locked up by the Rookie, she still held her place as part of the 9th agency and said Rookie’s boss. Not wanting such a big fuss to be made - they let her be. Still working for the security of Discity; nothing will change much to that.

Langley was currently sitting in the library; reading a book while drinking some coffee. It was a rare moment when she was able to have a peace of mind during her break. Most days it would have been spent watching the little ones run around and make a fuss out over the Rookie. Amusing really.

Well it was, usually. Until she heard a dull sigh from nearby; footsteps being heard louder and louder by the moment until it stopped right in front of her. Langley had looked up and gave a smile, “Hello, little dreamer. You’ve strayed far from normal.”

Not only it being her break period,it was dark outside from where the window was. Sinners, by now, should by all means be sleeping in their cells. How Hecate had got out of here though was a little bit confusing.

Either way Langley was going to tell, still she is a bit curious. Yet, she won’t pry.

“…I’m looking for a book.” Hecate stated, her dull tone gliding across the air as per-normal. Except it wasn’t normal—anything considered normal here is far beyond possible, not with the Rookie becoming the one in charge of these group of sinners.

“A book this late at night? Was it requested by ‘her’?” Langley had asked, taking a sip of her coffee. Silence followed for a moment before she reiterated, “Personal use maybe?”

“…I’mlookingforabookonfairytales.” Hecate said swiftly looking down - making it close to impossible to see her eyes. Langley chuckled, finding her reaction to a question cute. Her tone, still soft and straight to the point, yet she just talked faster.

But a book on fairytales? That’s mostly unexpected from her.

“Why would that be? Is it from your sinner powers?”

“I find it hard to sleep at night…Hella said that fairy tales help her sleep better…”

Hecate was now playing with her fingers and shifting from one foot to another. Her tone is still dull and straight to the point, but Langley couldn’t help but feel for her. She would always hear from the Chief how Hecate would always find a way to sneak into her room to sleep next to her; only for her to end up awake with little if no sleep.

How Langley heard all of this though is her little secret.

“Ah, how cute of an issue you’re facing,” she sighed and motioned with her hand, “Come on, bring me a book you find interest in.” Langley ordered in a more softer tone. Hecate stared at the older lady before going past to find a fairytale story.

A moment later she had come back with a book in her hand and handed it over to Langley. She smiled and took it, beforehently grabbing the girl and placing her on her lap. “There we go. Get comfortable now, seems like you choose a pretty long one,” Langley commented. The book seemed to be almost as large as the stack of papers she would usually give to the Chief.

“One more thing..for this you can go on dispatch with me tomorrow.” Langley said, getting comfortable with her coffee before opening the book.

“…The Chief usually assigns dispatches according to skill base and how the—“

“Did you forget that I’m her boss, little dreamer? Don’t you worry about a thing.” She smiled and started to read.

A while passed before Hecate could fall asleep in Langley’s arms. Langley smiled and placed down the book so she could continue her own reading. She had read up on what was with Hecate when she had first got here (done that with all of the current sinners actually). Compared to what she heard and knew when she got here, seems like Hecate was opening up more. That was good.

Dispatch day arrived. Langley had gotten out of her terminal to record what was happening so she could send it to the Chief.

“GET YOUR FUCKING DOG BITCH!” Some thugs had yelled, as they were backed into a circle while Hecate’s nightmare moved around the group. They were giving those two problems earlier when they had just wanted to ask questions. Which had started to lead to a shootout. Langley suggested she send out Nightmare.

And who would have thought that it would make such a funny scene?

“It doesn’t bite..”

“YES IT DO!” They screamed.

Langley could already smile at the thought of the Rookie groaning from this video

Notes:

I like to think Langley is the godmother to these sinners. Nightingale is the mother, KK is the mother that stepped up. I will not elaborate.

Chapter Text

Pacassi didn’t know what to really expect when she was invited by the other sinners to a picnic.

To start with, she tended to adamantly avoid sinners if she was able to. Did not want them to be affected by the radiation that radiated off of her. Only to for that plan to fifty-percent of the time go sideways when she gets invited to play games or something they took interest in at the time.

Another thing, she never really experienced a ‘picnic’. All her memories were of her working at that power plant for most of her time. No real idea of what a picnic would be.

From what she read, it seemed very lovely. Enjoying the time outdoors, eating food, and talking to those around you. Very lovely.

“Mess you mother fucking cheater!”

“Don’t blame me because you can’t win–hey, knock it off!”

“Come on ..let Roulecca play!”

“Chief didn’t even call those numbers….”

“Yeah what gloom–Hecate, what Hecate said!”

“Oliver, you have to hit the ball! Or else you’re just playing..uh, base I guess.”

“But it’s soooo heavy…Huh? Crache, stop laughing at me!”

“Wolverine, stop chasing the ball like you’re a dog–come on give it back!”

When Pacassi read of the stories of serene picnics under the floating cherry blossoms, what she hadn’t expected was to be greeted with the chaos that was the MBCC sinners.

In all honesty Pacassi should have known. Ever since the new Chief arrived nothing there had been normal. She was a bit further from the others, even though the Chief said it was fine she still placed herself further, just for safe measures she would tell herself.

Some of them were playing bingo..with them having to sit out Roulecca after three rounds of her winning. Mess, Emp, and Hella all going back and forth trying to catch the chic girl cheating. Hecate casually drawing off to the side.

Around the other way was Oliver, Crache, Dolly, Wolverine, Kawa Kawa..at least trying to play baseball. Crache snorting at Oliver’s failed attempts. She did feel bad for Kawa though..kept getting hit with the ball. At this point he is bound to go to Ironand get a lecture for getting hurt in such a silly way.

They were enjoying each other’s presence, it was nice to be here. Although a bit..isolated.

“Chief come on now…call it a foul!” Emp stated, shaking the Chief.

She could only sigh, “Emp this is bingo, baseball is over there..and Mess, cheating doesn’t win you any prizes.” The statement only made the fashionista pout.

“We’re back with the food, thanks for letting us work on it, Chief.” Straight ahead with the figures getting larger was Kelvin and Ignis coming with baskets full of food. The aroma was tempting the radiated girl to inch closer.

At the mention of food it was almost like a stampede with the sinners rushing towards the two. Starting to sit down on their blankets with their friends.

“Hey! Pacassi, come and join us!” Hoot said, starting to dig into the food, earning a snicker from Hella, “Thought you was saving it for your leader..”

Pacassi only shook her head, “It’s dangerous.”

Oliver tilted their head, “Huh? But we’re all sinners? Not like we aren’t dangerous already.”

“I’m more..”

“We literally have Nox stop being such a big baby and come closer!” Emp stated chewing down on her food.

She turned and glanced, the sinners continuing to eat their food while the Chief stared her down before turning to her own food. Feeling deflated, she moved a few inches closer.

This felt like a set up for some reason..

“Here! Try this, it’s really good!” Mess said, handing over some food.

“Of course it’s good..Kelvin and Ignis made it.” The comment said, earning a pout from Ignis and a smile from Kelvin.

“I’m glad you enjoy it…whenever we have this again maybe..” and their conversation went on.

Pacassi took a bite at her food while listening to the ongoing conversations. It was warm.

A cool breeze passed by them.

Pacassi scooted closer.

Chapter Text

“Look at them…they’re all so good looking..”

“Isn’t that the Countess? What is she doing here?”

“I doubt she is free from the MBCC with all those guard dogs she has..”

KawaKawa had to keep going forward with the rest of the group; the Chief had done a special dispatch for the Endura tendency sinners, wanting them to go to the shopping district for ‘better clothes for the good behaved sinners’

It was a lie. Chelsea got the Chief to let her go out shopping for her friends—only in turn for the whole Endura group to be assigned. When he was telling his friends this they only snickered…saying while the rest of them were like guard dogs he was just a little puppy…funny coming from Hella.

“Oh, my favorite area! Tell me what you guys want!” Chelsea said, looking at the outfits.

“…What?” K.K. had asked, narrowing her eyes in confusion, “Didn’t you say you wanted to buy something for your friends..”

“Yeah..so what do you want?” Chelsea responded.

“You consider us friends? How sweet!” Demolia said with a huge grin. KawaKawa could feel a small smile forming on his face. It was nice that she considered him a friend..at least he thinks she considers him a friend. Others usually find him a bit naive..

“..I don’t really have the need for anything. My equipment is up to date with the conditions of what I’m used to during Serpent’s Eye..” Cinnabar stated..looking down. Demon nodded in agreement, the actions of the two making the cat eyed lady huff out.

“My precious Chief let me spoil you all today, don’t think too hard about my kind gesture. That’d make me sad” she pouted.

They were silent for a moment.

And then another.

They gave in like punks.

KawaKawa had gone around the large store (at this point it was a mall..Eastside sure likes to make things bigger) with Demolia. Erm..well Demolia had wished Demon the best of luck with his findings and dragged him off. He feels like it’s for the best though; he isn’t that close with K.K. KawaKawa is pretty sure Demon is always angry with him for some reason, too embarrassed to go with Cinnabar after he mistook her for a ‘him’. Peggy just seemed plain mean to KawaKawa too.

“Alright buddy, where should we head to! Wanna grab some more jackets? The cells can get cold sometimes…”

“Buddy..?”

“Yeah! You’re like…our lil brother!”

KawaKawa blinked for a moment. Did they really see him like that? He was pretty sure the others around him found him too dumb or irritating..

“You’re a lot younger than us and you just remind us of a lil brother; don’t think too much about it, yeah? Oh! Look at this jacket!” She picked up her pace towards the lines of jackets that look way more expensive than her entire being.

KawaKawa had to think for a bit. They–really didn’t see him as annoying? Ever since the Whitesands expedition he went on with the Chief and Hecate, he has just felt so..self-deprecating at times. Like every move he does makes him feel like he is dumb. Least those comforting words will put a little more pep in his step!

Literally!

“Say, mini K.K., which one do you think is better–huh, KawaKawa?” Demolia asked. Looking around her view, she started to nervously chuckle. “I’m dead.”

“Check this out! This is some shiny bling they got…Chelsea really wanted to spoil us rotten today!” Peggy exclaimed, holding up one of the finer gold chains the store had. Demon was on the side standing there…very menacing. He did his job though, barely anyone except store workers came over to talk to the group. K.K. had returned with some items for Bai and Che…one which may or may not be soap. Chelsea was enjoying the moment watching.

Cinnabar looked like she was on the brink of sleep. She is professional though, so that would never happen. But after having to wrangle all of these sinners from not causing anything bad for the MBCC was a challenge in itself. Not to mention sometimes ladies would pass by and giggle while waving towards her…

“YOU GUYS” an ear piercing screech that brought up the sinners to attention, seeing Demolia with some jackets on her arm run towards them, “I lost mini K.K.!”

The rest of the sinners shot up, with only K.K. looking confused, “You…you call him, mini me..?” She questioned.

“Yes, isn’t it an adorable nickname? Fits him so well too—“

“How yo ass lose a damn kid!” Peggy stated, looking so confused.

“Where was he last seen? Did he leave any trail behind, no witnesses saw him? There was no one stalking you right?” Demon questioned.

“This is a massive building in the Eastside market, there will be security cameras. With the Countess we will be able to get access to them and check..” Cinnabar added. Peggy and Demolia had to step back for a moment…they were scary when they were serious.

They both turned to Chelsea but she wasn’t any better. It looked like she was about to bring a reckoning to this store. The people whom were observing the Countess and her bodyguards earlier has now vanished.

“I’m sorrryyy, it’s all my fault! I should have paid closer attention to him, my poor lil brother!” Demolia was on the brink of tears. She should of known something was up, and now he is gone!

“Oh there you guys are, It took a while to find this but I got something cool for yoU–“

“DON'T EVER SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN LIL BROTHER!”

“Aah! My precious friend is ok! I’m glad.”

“Don’t do that fuck shit again you were making the strong ones look scary as hell!”

KawaKawa blushed. He didn’t think they would honestly be this scared that he was gone for a bit.

“Ah, sorry about that. I went to get you these!” KawaKawa handed them out some necklaces, “I–I’m…It’s a thank you gift. For being my friend.” He shyly stated.

“Oh you’re so sweet! Thanks KawaKawa” Chelsea said, hugging the small boy.

“Aww! You’re so adorable, thank you mini K.K.!” Demolia said, hugging him as well, the hug for him was starting to get too tight.

“Yeah that’s still a weird nickname….” The real K.K. stated.

“You’ll get used to it!” Demolia said, earning a groan from K.K.

“Hm..not as good as gold is to a rapper, silver is still cool though. Appreciate it.” Peggy stated.

The two trained ones of the group didn’t say much, but put the necklaces on anyway. Cinnabar smiled while Demon uttered not a word.

Whenever Sinners passes any Endura tendency sinner, they’re always wearing that necklace.

Chapter 12

Summary:

It’s my birthday..why must I do all the work?

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“..Happy Birthday to you!” the female sinners sang out to the blushing sinner in pajamas. It was Cinnabar’s birthday today, and it so happened that it aligned up with the planned sleepover Mess had created. The amount of trouble she went through to get it approved by the Chief was beyond comprehensible… Being able to use the recreational area for it was part of it..too many sinners for it to be cramped into one small space as their cells.

Cinnabar was quite nervous…she never really went to a sleepover- erm. It is more appropriate to say she has never been to a sleepover. Due to her days training in the police academy to catch up with her peers to working with Serpent’s Eye - she’s never really had the chance to participate in activities like that.

When the rest of the sinners heard this though they just refused to let it slip by.

Cinnabar tried to politely decline, saying there was no need to go through all that effort..but they just….ignored her.

“Ugh, where is the cake! We can’t just sing ‘Happy Birthday’ without a cake to blow out the candles!” Hella huffed. Hecate was next to her, drawing in her sketchbook, Ninety-Nine behind them both trying to braid both of their hairs.

“Huh, you make it sound like it’s your birthday…todayy we're celebrating Cinnabars! Cinnabar's birthday is today! Not yours!” Wendy laughed out, grinning from ear to ear.

“Yeah yeah, I get it, calm down.” Hella rolled her eyes.

“Come on now,” eyes turned to Zoya, sitting on the couch like she owned it - Stargazer sitting next to Zoya looking into her ball while Hamel was on the other side hugging a jellyfish plush, “It’s the puppy’s first time at a sleepover, lets not argue today.”

“..Puppy?” Cinnabar questioned.

“..Erm, boss? It’s our first sleepover too..” Horo laughed.

“It’s a lot of ours..not really much of a chance to have time for that crap in a dump like Discity.” Commented Joan, who was currently relaxing on the ground.

“So..what exactly happens at a sleepover?” Cinnabar asked.

A squeal made the sinners turn. Mess was the door holding what seemed to be makeup and magazines. Ariel was next to her holding more food and the birthday cake..yeah ok let's try to help her before she trips. “For Sleepovers we do makeup! We play fun little games, watch movies, and even do pranks and mess people up..” The fashionista snorted at her own joke before getting popcorn thrown at her by EMP and Roulecca.

Cinnabar felt a bit relieved. From what the other sinners who experienced it before it doesn’t sound too bad. Cinnabar is just thinking of every outcome that could occur from this..she didn’t want to embarrass herself or make someone else feel embarrassed. She also didn’t want to ruin anyone's fun; seeing that she isn’t the only one who hasn’t experienced a sleepover yet, she would have to take their feelings into consideration-

“Ah ah…You’re thinking too much about it, Darling..this is suppose to be a fun night. Your night, just enjoy the time, no?” An arm was put around her and she froze a little at the voice. Ever since she told the Chief about Mcqueens flirting, she has toned it down…it was now mostly directed towards the Chief.

Mostly.

“As much as I truly enjoy listening to this greasy woman open her mouth, her words does have some merit to it..” Lisa spoke, her face contorted.

“I suppose you’re right…but please keep an appropriate distance…” Cinnabar started with a blush.

Not like she would listen though.

Besides, everything seems tame. Cinnabar is pretty confident tonight.

“I need to stop trusting that everything will go smoothly.” Once again, never assume things will go normally here at the MBCC. Cinnabar has learnt here that barely anyone in this place is sane…the Chief included.

It was a long night, they played Une and some other card games, watched corny movies, and Cinnabar even got her nails painted red. She enjoyed it, and it was quite peaceful from what she had originally imagined.

“Alrighty, who wants ice cream- woah!” Ignis squeaked as some of the sinners lined up to get their cool desert. Pepper had wanted to get some too..to make a cola float out of it.

“Oh, it’s a special lady’s birthday and you didn’t even offer her first?’ Langley said off to the side. Some of the younger sinners had flocked to her earlier after Chelsea wouldn’t stop offering to be their sugar mamas.

“Ah, that’s quite alright. I'm lactose intolerant anyways.” Cinnabar stated.

“Lactose intolerant..?” Hecate questioned, Langley smiled and patted her head, “Means she can’t drink milk. Or she gets sick..”

“Ah..that is not true. I can drink milk..but after my time in the police department trying to catch up with my height the taste of dairy has always made me sick..” Cinnabar chuckled and held back a shiver.

“Ah, did it get taller? Did you also cut your hair as well for that place?” Flora questioned, stuffing more cake and icecream into her mouth. Earning a nod from Cinnabar, “Ah, that must be why you attract so much attention!”

“Attention..what kind?” Langley said with a smirk. Cinnabar has a sinking feeling of where this conversation is going to go…why did Langley have to instigate this matter!

“Ya’ didn’t know? Our loyal puppy here attracts ladies like a magnet. It’s funny.” Zoya stated.

Bai Yi nodded, “Heard from somewhere on how ladies keep sending her love letters and letters wishing for her to leave this place..”

“Wha- hold on how did you hear-”

“Do you ever see her work out? Her muscles are so cool!” Hella said, earning a blank stare from Ninety-Nine before she turned to the embarrassed sinner on the ground. “Let's arm wrestle..”

“Oh wow, we have quite the lady killer in our ranks then?” Langley stated, getting up and moving closer to her, “Would you be able to show me? Some pushups I mean? I’d love to give some of my subordinates at the 9th Agency some tips.”

“Now you’re all just messing with me..” Why do they have to be this close?!

“Oh? Is our fellow sinner shy..” Stargazer commented from the couch, earning some agreements from agreements from the other sinners.

She could only sigh.

The Chief had been asked multiple times by some of the female sinners to drop by for their sleepover they had planned. While she wasn’t one usually for that, as Nightingale had told her to take regular breaks. She just..couldn’t sit still. Especially knowing a lot of her sinners were in the same area.

Getting near the Recreational Room, she heard a lot of noise coming from there. Looking around the corner though she saw Cinnabar, Zoya, and Ninety-Nine doing push ups. Langley, Bai Yi, and Hella and Hecate were on each of them. With other sinners cheering them on…wasn’t this supposed to be a celebration of some sorts?

The Chief was just about to tell them to knock it off, yet - seeing their smiles made her halt. Especially Cinnabars; who the Chief thought would be the one most upset about this..situation? Yet, she's smiling. The Chief smiled and walked in. Some of the sinners welcomed her, telling her to pick a person to cheer for. Yet, she just cant pick one to cheer for.

What a fun sleepover this is..

Chapter Text

“Chief, the results of the tests came back. To say I’m shocked at these results would be an understatement.” Nightingale said, handing over the stack of papers to the Chief.

Surely enough, these ‘reports’ check out. Most of these reports just being basic knowledge tests that were given out the week prior. Ever since the Chief had come into the MBCC all those months ago, this facility has taken a turn for the better. While, yes, still holding dangerous criminals while also having a control on the mania they face - mostly now it has been turning into a rehabilitation center for them.

Others have just been turning it into their own home, as yesterday the Chief had caught the Whitestone Trio creating a hot pot in her office while she was out taking care of some matters…the room smelled so good for the next few days that it was hard to concentrate on working.

Since this is the equivalent of a rehabilitation center, it would be best to make sure they are able to go back to a new normal as much as possible here. Yet it seems for a good amount it might be tougher than it seems.

“Shall I find a teacher to help their progress? They would be able to listen to us if I can pull some strings-”

“I can do it.” The Chief stated. Not at all because their budget was tight after feeding the sinners..repairing training rooms..pipes..

Certainly not at all!

Nightingale sighed, the Chief winced at it. She sounds so exasperated with her..she felt a bit sorry for it. “Chief, while I appreciate the actions you have done for your sinners this would just take out more work for you..and since your physical health has been on the decline for a while now I certainly don't think this is the brightest idea when we can just hire one.”

“I don’t know whether I can trust them to play nice with my sinners,” The Chief stated, looking over the tests. “Besides, I know them better than anyone else here. Who would they listen to more?”

“You do not have any experience in teaching though..”

“How hard can it be?”

“..Hella spelled everything wrong but the Syndicate language she uses daily” Nightingale sighed. At this point Chief couldn’t take it. She got up from her seat and walked over to Nightingale, hugging her.

“It will be fine, you have to trust me on this. Please?”

It was silent for a moment. The Chief only hoped that begging like a puppy would work, and it’s not like her loyal adjutant hasn’t trusted her before- just that mostly all those times ended in…

“If anything bad happens I’m calling a professional. I trust your word, Chief.” Nightingale said, giving off a small smile. The Chief felt her heartbeat return to a regular place at the words of affirmation.

Besides, it's not like anything bad will happen!

“We can start off with simple things to broaden your vocabulary for those who need it..Hella, Horo..” The Chief said, earning grumbles from the two.

A simple circle with a board close to the Chief. Some sinners who have shown to be struggling in reading and writing were brought here..so quite a rack sheet going on.

“You promised us a movie night tonight! That new movie from that famous director came out! I wanna watch it!” EMP complained, sitting criss-crossed on the chair.

“I have, it’s currently mid-day. The faster this gets done the faster you can get ready for movie night.” Chief stated, turning to the board, “We shall start with words that end in ‘A-N’. Just yell out a word and I’ll write it down.”

Now energetic, the bubbly Emy started it off, “Fan!”

“That’s a good start.” The Chief said, writing it down.

“Uh..Man?” Wolverine said, earning a nod from the Chief.

“Politician.” Hecate stated, wait what-

“Hecate? Hey, why are you here, miss smarty-pants here?” Stated Mess, “I doubt she’s as dumb as you all, did you fail?”

“No..my grades were very high..I just like following the Chief..” Hecate stated.

“Mess, the fuck you mean by ‘dumb as us all’? You’re here for a reason too!” Hella shouted.

“Ok..ok, calm down. Let’s continue, ok? Any more words you know that end in ‘A-N’?”

“Can!” Ninety-Nine says…of course she thinks about food. Another word on the board..

“Pan.” Crache stated. Another word on the board..

“Lesbian!” Hella continued. Another word on the board…

.

.

.

Wait a minute.

“Hella, what was that?” Chief turned to her.

“Lesbian.”

“...Words that end in ‘A-N”...”

“Lesbian!”

“I heard ‘ran’…”

“But, Chief? Hella said lesbian.” Kawa-Kawa stated. The Chief had to continue breathing for a moment, “Ok..Hella said lesbian..that..that is a word ending in ‘A-N’”.

“Chief, what is a lesbain anyways?” Hella asked. What?

“It’s your word how do you.. If you liked another girl-”

“I like a lot of girls, does that mean I am a lesbian?” Hella asked. At this point Chief really can’t tell if Hella is fucking with her or just genuinly doesn’t know what it is. Probably the former with how the sinners in the circle started to hold in their laughter

“Well..yeah, that is true I suppose..alright alright..let’s switch to a different word…let's go with words ending in ‘O-N’.”

“Prostitution!” Mess yelled out. Only to end up busting out laughing.

“Different word..but before anything..ok..we should be good. Any words you can think of ending in ‘R-E’?”

“..Crackwhore..” Hecate stated. Hecate stated…Hecate..

The whole room was busting out laughing with an exasperated Chief looking at the scene. Soon she joined in on the laughter herself.

Outside the room, Nightingale was holding a smile on her face, watching the Chief try to teach the sinners.

It was a good decision to trust her.

Notes:

Sorry for the lateness! I was on break and then classes became hectic.

Also did you notice the reference to an upcoming sinner 👀 very much in love with that character!
