They’re here every Sunday, in the weirdest, most genial divorced-parent-handoff he’s seen, and Ed’s seen his share. The kids have milk and cake pops and talk over each other while the parents sip coffee and discuss scheduling issues, then go their separate ways.
The dad always looks a little sad and a little relieved when it’s his week off. Sometimes he’ll stay and read for a bit while his coffee goes cold.
Blackbeard’s isn’t the kind of place that takes names for orders—it’s never busy enough for that—but one of these days Ed’s going to ask him anyway.
