Work Text:
Leo just wanted a simple dinner at Run of The Mill but of course, that didn't happen.
This random Dove came in screaming about how he's their hero because of ...something. Leo wasn't really listening and could tell by the looks on the other's faces that they weren't either
"Oh, you got to be kidding me..." Donnie mumbled as they all stared straight ahead at the dove. Leo let out a long sigh as he leaned back in the booth, they were going to get stuck helping to kick this guy out, huh? Leo opened his mouth to say something before all three of his brothers poked their noses.
"Not it!"
"Seriously?" Leo groaned loudly and dramatically for effect.
"Yes, this seems like a problem for our good old fearless leader to handle." Donnie gave Leo a smug look as Leo sent a glare his way.
"Don't worry, it shouldn't take long." Raph tried comforting and it usually would've worked if he still didn't have his finger on his nose. Leo made sure to send a small glare to each of his brothers before slowly standing up.
"Fiiiiiine." Leo cracked his back before walking up to the dove, who was still preaching up a storm to the bored restaurant. Even the staff didn't seem to be listening to this guy.
"Hey buddy," Leo started. "people are trying to eat here so why don't you do this whole...thingy somewhere else?" Normally Leo probably would have done that a nicer way but he was just so done with the situation. The dove looked over at Leo and gave him the most offended look he'd ever seen and he lives with Donnie.
...And people call him dramatic!
"How dare you! I am saving these people from a lonely life!" the dove motioned around the restaurant, which was staring with bored interest. Leo looked over and saw Senor Hueso who just rolled his eyes and made a motion that practically screamed 'hurry this up'.
"Yeah, Okay, it's time to go." Leo gently grabbed the dove by the shoulders and gently pushed him toward the door. "Off you go."
"Why I never!" The dove screamed.
"Well can you 'never' somewhere else people are trying to eat." Leo let out a sigh as the dove started running to the other side of the restaurant. "Okay we're doing this I guess..."
Leo took out his swords and immediately tossed one in the direction of the dove. The dove stopped running and turned around to look back at Leo, fumbling with a little glass with pink liquid in it, but was shocked when Leo was not there.
"Can you just please-" Leo put a hand on the dove's shoulder again.
This caused the dove to scream and throw the pink liquid into Leo's face.
"Hey, what the heck!" Leo shouted as Raph, Donnie, and Mikey surrounded the Dove. The dove looked nervous at being surrounded by these big turtles, especially the red one.
"Hey, not cool!" Mikey yelled as he took out his nunchucks. He looked over at Leo, who was currently trying to scrub the pink liquid off his face. "Are you okay Leo?"
"Me? Pshhh, I'm fine!" Leo laughed as the world around him started to spin. "Look at me, of course, I'm fine." That were Leo's last words before the world turned black.
Leo didn't know how long he was laying down before he started hearing a voice. It was a nice voice, very nice actually.
"Excuse me, sir? Are you alright?"
Leo let out a small groan before he slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was red, which was the color of the person's eyes. Leo never noticed how beautiful the color red was and Leo couldn't look away from this yokai. His heart started beating faster in his chest as his cheeks began to warm up.
"You're awake!" The yokai, who was also a rabbit, smiled. Leo swallowed as he couldn't help but think how adorable his smile was. "Are you injured? Oh, let me help you up."
Leo couldn't say anything as the rabbit helped him sit up. Leo couldn't get his eyes off of the rabbit who he just realized he didn't know his name. Leo looked at the Run of the Mill uniform he was wearing and oh! He worked here. That's so cool... How come he never noticed him before!? Shame! Shame on Leo!
There was a lot of noise surrounding the two but all Leo was able to focus on was how soft his fur looked and ohmigosh he wanted to mess with the extra fur on the rabbit's cheeks. The rabbit had white fur that was as beautiful as newly fallen winter snow.
Leo's throat felt dry as the rabbit waved a hand in front of his face. Leo had to hold himself back from reaching over to hold the rabbit's hand. Leo snapped out of his thoughts as he looked back into the yokai's eyes. "You never answered my question, You alright?"
"I think there's something wrong with my eyes..." That was all Leo was able to mumble. The Rabbit looked worried as he moved closer to inspect his eyes. Leo couldn't help the smirk on his face as he leaned closer. "Cause I can't get them off of you."
The noise that surrounded the two stopped suddenly as it seems that the entire resultant attention was on the two of them. The rabbit stared at Leo in shock with a heavy blush on his cheeks. Cute.
"It worked... It worked!" the voice of the dove shouted in joy. Leo spared a quick glance at the dove, who was currently tied up in Mikey's chains, staring at Leo in joy. Leo didn't know why but he honestly couldn't care less as he turned back to the rabbit. Who was still staring at Leo in shock Leo couldn't help the burst of giggles that came out at the sight.
"What did you do to him?" Raph growled as he moved closer to the dove. Leo surprisingly was not one to get crushes or at least show that he had a crush so the sight of Leo fawning over this random yokai was frankly disturbing.
"I gave him joy! Look at him!" The dove tried motioning his arm toward Leo but got caught in the chains. "He was so miserable before but now he's so happy!"
"I wouldn't call it happy," Donnie grumbled as he held up his wrist. "Oh, banana pancakes, his oxytocin and dopamine levels are off the charts! What did you throw at him?" Donnie looked up with a glare.
"I did what I needed to." The dove scoffed before the chains around him tightened. "Okay, okay! I stole a love potion to help people fall in love."
The turtles, except Leo, just stared at the Dove. Donnie spoke up. "What, why- might I ask, did you do that exactly?"
"So Yokai won't have to be lonely anymore!"
"But... Leo wasn't lonely? He had us!" Mikey couldn't help but wonder, sparing a glance at his brother. who was now being checked over by Hueso as the rabbit yokai watched with worry. Leo was reaching out for his hand but Hueso kept stopping him with a tired sigh.
"It clearly wasn't meant for him but it ended up helping him!"
"Okay, we're done with this." Donnie decided as he pushed the dove toward the exit. " The police are on their way and hopefully they'll have the brain cells to send you to prison."
"Wait but I'm not done-" The dove cried as he was pushed out.
"You are now." Donnie deadpanned as he slammed the door shut in the yokai's face. He turned and faced the tragedy that was his brother being in love. This was not going to be fun.
"Is there any way to change him back?!" Mikey panicked as he jumped onto Donnie's battle shell. "I do not know how much of this I can watch." Mikey covered his eyes right as Leo giggled once again toward the yokai.
"Of course, there's a way to change Leo back." Raph nodded before looking over at Donnie. "right?"
"I could probably come up with a cure if I get a simple blood sample from Leo-" Donnie was cut off by the sound of laughter. And it was not Leo's.
Oh no, the rabbit is laughing at one of Leo's jokes
Leo is watching the yokai laugh with the dopest grin they have ever seen. The rabbit laughs loudly before wrapping an arm around Leo's shoulder, not truly realizing what he's done as the three brothers give each other panicked looks.
Leo let out a loud chirp which has his brothers freezing on the spot. They haven't made any turtle noises since they were little, especially Leo! It was Leo cuddling up to the rabbit's side when Raph snapped out of it.
"We need to fix this! Now!" Raph grabbed Leo and moved me away from the rabbit, who finally calmed down. "Donnie do whatever you need to do to make Leo normal again!"
"One small blood sample! Distract him." Donnie took his brother's arm and got ready to get started. Leo looked a little sad to be away from the rabbit so he tried to glance over at Donnie which could be dangerous since they don’t know how he’ll react.
The rabbit seemed to notice the tense look the brothers gave and quickly realized he needed to do something. He did the first thing he could think of, quickly grabbing Leo’s hand with a yell. “Wait, don’t!”
Leo’s head quickly snapped over to look at their intertwined hands. Leo stared at their hands before slowly looking back up at them. The brothers all looked at the rabbit like he was an idiot which to be fair.
He was.
“I think I’m having a heart attack…” Leo whispered under his breath.
“What!?” The rabbit looked one second away from ripping his hand away so Leo tightened his grip and gave him a smug smile.
“Anyone who says Disneyland is the happiest place on earth has clearly never stood next to you.'' There was a moment of silence before groans entered the restaurant from his brothers. Leo actually ignored them as he stared at the rabbit. Who he really needs to learn his name-
“That is so unfair!” The rabbit covers his mouth as he tries not to let the snickers through. The looks the brothers are giving him are the only reason he is not laughing. Why did this Kappa yokai have to be so funny!?
“Hey if it gets you to smile it’s worth it.” Leo shrugged as tried moving closer to the rabbit but a grip on his arm stopped him.
“You’re lucky I’m done ‘Nardo.” Donnie rolled his eyes as he let go of Leo's arm. Leo’s brows furrowed as he noticed his glove was messed with. “Now that we got what we need, it's time to go.”
“Wait what!?” Leo's eyes widened as he was being moved away from the rabbit. He tightened his grip on his hand as he moved next to the yokai. Practically hanging off of him. “I don’t want to leave!”
“Leo please, You’re only gonna embarrass yourself if you stay.” Donnie rolled his eyes. His frown deepened when Leo didn’t move an inch causing him to sigh. “Raph grab him.”
“Wait, nonononono Raph get away from me! Get away no! Let go of me! ” Leo struggled in Raph’s grip as he was moved away from the rabbit.
“Leo, please stop fighting me.” Raph tried comforting but it wasn’t helping. Leo needed to be with the Rabbit! He needed to be next to him, holding his hand again. His hand felt way too cold without him. “We’ll get back to the lair and get you all better.”
“Yeah!” Mikey popped up in his vision, blocking the rabbit from his view. No no no no no no nonononon this won’t do. “I’ll make you your favorite food when we get back. Hawaiian?”
Leo couldn’t focus on anything they were saying. All he could focus on was that he wasn’t with the yokai. Said Yokai was currently watching them leave with a worried expression. That’s no good!
Leo needed to be here! He has to be here to cheer the rabbit up. He can make him laugh! He couldn’t just leave now! He needs to stay!
“Leo please!”
Lethimgo! LethimGo! Lethimgo! LethimGo! Lethimgo! LethimGo! Heneedstostay! Heneedstostay! Heneedstostay! Heneedstohelp! Heneedstohelp! HeneedstoHELPHIM! LETHIMGO!
LET HIM STAY!
“Leo, Leo, ya gotta calm down man!” Raph struggled on keeping a good grip on his brother because just much much he was moving around. Leo suddenly tried laughing himself off of Raph, who barely had any time to grab him once again. “Donnie! What is up with him!?”
“He’s panicking obviously!” Donnie looked like he didn’t know what to do. “He has to calm down.”
“Leo, Leo, It’s okay.” Mikey moved in his eye line even when Leo tried looking around his head over to where the rabbit stood. Mikey looked back over toward the rabbit, who was currently speaking to Hueso. “Why don’t we leave him here?”
“What!?”
“Think about it!” Mikey raised his voice, only so he could actually speak. “If leaving him here is the only thing to keep him calm then he should stay. You got what you needed here so why can’t he stay?”
“Because someone will need to watch him. Leo, calm down. ” Raph finally got a good grip on Leo and forced him still. Even though Leo was breathing heavily, eyes moving all over the place, his hands were gripping his plastron, where his heart should be.
That…that worried Raph. Leo looked like he was in so much pain and hurt Raph. If leaving Leo here would dull the pain then they’ll do it. Raph let out a long sigh.
“Fine, we can leave him here.” Mikey smiled brightly before Raph raised a finger. “But! We’ll need to find someone to watch him.” Mikey's smile disappeared.
“Perdoneme,” The three jumped as Senor Hueso spoke up. “I do not need to eavesdrop but, oh chico, me voy a arrepentire de esto, is Pepino alright?”
“Whatever that thing was is messing with Leo.”
“I can clearly see that. “ Senor Hueso raised a brow. “As he is harassing my waiter.” Senor Hueso spares a glance at Leo before sighing. “Will he be alright if he leaves?”
“We… don’t think so.” there was another sigh.
“I will let him stay..” Hueso started but it was already too late, Leo heard.
“Great!” Leo launched out of his brother's grip and started moving quickly toward the rabbit only for Hueso to stand in his way,
“But only if you let my staff work in peace.” Hueso raised a brow and gave Leo a stern look. “Understood, Pepino?”
“Yes! Very understood, Senor!” Leo gives a mock salute before quickly seating himself at a table, smiling like a doofus as he waits for the rabbit.
“Este va a ser un dia largo.” Hueso looked away from the blue-clad turtle and toward his brothers as he points. “Get that cure as soon as you can!”
With that, Hueso walked away. The brothers watch him leave before looking over at Leo who was staring at the kitchen as he waits.
“Hey Leo, we’ll be back soon! Okay?” Mikey warns as he gives his older brother a nervous smile. Leo just mumbled something as he gave them a small wave, not taking his eyes off the kitchen.
“Yeah, we should hurry…”
__________
Leo was starting to get a bit bored as he waited for the rabbit to return. Leo really needs to learn the rabbit's name.
he didn’t know why he was so entranced by the waiter, he just was. Maybe it was because of the beautiful color of his white fur, the brightness of his red eyes, or how soft his fur was when he took Leo’s hand.
Leo couldn’t help the small giggle as he returned to that certain memory. When the waiter took his hand he swore everything stopped. It was like his brothers weren’t there, Hueso wasn’t there, and nothing else mattered except the two of them. Just like how things should be.
Leo couldn’t imagine not being around the rabbit. The thought itself made Leo’s chest hurt. Leo winced to himself as he rubbed his plastron at the thought. Speaking of which… where was his savior?
He was worried that Hueso sent him to work in the kitchen instead of the front but that was quickly proven wrong as the rabbit walked out.
The rabbit looked shocked to see Leo as he walked. The expression of shock quickly became nervous as he walked passed. Leo let out a small frown as he watched the yokai work.
The rabbit talked to the table close by but the moment he was done he walked over by Leo. Leo couldn’t help the smile that grew as the rabbit leaned over him.
“I thought you were supposed to be with your brothers? To fix …. Whatever exactly happened to you.” The rabbit looked more nervous as time passed. “The thing that made you… fall in love with me?”
“Pppff, Like I need something to do that for me.” Leo rested his head against his hands to stare lovingly at the worker. The yokai quickly turned away and Leo couldn’t help the smirk he gave at the sight of him blushing.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something.” Leo decided to just go with it. “What’s your name? I’ve just been calling you Rabbit in my head and that’s so unfair to someone as amazing as you.”
The yokai just stared at him for a long while before tilting his head slightly, which was adorable, in confusion.
“It says it on my name tag. My name tag is right here.” The rabbit reached for the name tag but realized nothing was there. “I forgot my name tag!” The rabbit quickly sprinted away before quickly coming back. “Oh also, my name is Usagi, Yuichi Usagi.”
Leo laughed as Usagi ran to the back to grab his nametag. When Leo finally calmed down he leaned his head against his hand as he watched the rabbit work.
Leo didn’t know how much time passed but it was nice just to be able to exist without a single worry in his mind. Somehow, watching Usagi work just relaxed Leo but he’s convinced that Usagi could be doing literally anything and Leo would feel the same.
Leo tried hiding the smile on his face as Usagi walked over, holding a plate of Pizza. Usagi placed the Pizza, making Leo look up at him with a slightly confused expression.
“You never got your order earlier so I thought it’d be a nice thing to do.” Usagi still looked a bit nervous, making Leo chuckle a bit.
“Hey, I’m not one to ignore pizza.” Leo looked down at the plate and his smile grew. “And it’s my favorite! Usagi, you're a lifesaver!”
Leo immediately bit into his food but he still noticed the smile Usagi had on his face. Usagi chuckled to himself.
“Yeah, I’m told that a lot.” That caused Leo to pause in his chewing and look up at the waitor. That’s something someone who was not a warrior would say… Unless being a waiter wasn’t their only job.
“So Usagi…” Leo leaned back in his seat placing the pizza down. “Aside from being handsome, what do you do for a living?”
Leo was expecting Usagi to shy away like how he did with his other one liners but instead Usagi brightened up. Usagi looked so happy and Leo couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride because he did that.
He made Usagi happy.
“I’m a samurai! O-or at least training to be one but I think at this point I think I should be considered one because me and my friends did save a city once, not to brag. Though it wasn’t as big as the Hidden City but It’s still a flex.” Leo listened to Usagi ramble with a soft smile on his face. At this point, he couldn’t help it even if he tried but he didn’t want to fight against it.
“Oh, I was rambling. I apoloize, I shouldn’t have…” Usagi started to fiddle with his fingers. Leo couldn’t have that.
“Hey, Hey, don’t worry.” Leo gently took Usagi’s hands and lowered them. “I like hearing about you. You’re an interesting person. A samurai, did you say? Bud, we have to spar! Not to brag but I do know a thing or two about swords.”
Usagi stared at Leo’s face like he was looking for something before smiling, which quickly became a smirk. “I’m not too sure you’d want to do that. I wouldn’t want to see you get beaten so quickly.”
“Ohohohooh!” Leo couldn’t help the shocked laugh. “Someone’s getting a little cocky now huh? We’ll see how that goes.”
“I think I should be saying that to do, Kappa.”
“Leo.”
“Leo.” Usagi and Leo just sit there for a long while just smiling at eachother. Enjoying eachothers presence. That was before Usagi’s ears twitchs and the sound of footsteps came.
“Shit, Hueso’s coming.” they could see the shadow of Hueso coming. Usagi sent one last look at Leo before leaving. “Looking forward to that match, Leo.”
Leo waited for Usagi to leave before showing the giddy smile on his face. This was the first and only time Leo was actually excited for a spar.
The things Leo does for love!
_______
Leo’s been at Run of the Mill for a couple hours now. He’s starting to wonder where his brothers went but that thought went out the window the moment Usagi walked into the room. He was holding mutuiple plates, impressive, Leo smirked as an idea popped up in his mind.
Leo waited until Usagi walked past him to lean over to whisper.
“If I could rearrange the alphabet, I’d put ‘U’ and ‘I’ together.” that caused Usagi to stumble, almost dropping all the plates before stablizing himself. He gave Leo a look before shaking his head and turning back to the table.
Leo chuckled to himself for a moment before sending Usagi an apologetic smile. Leo started munching on the side of fries he was given. Hueso being generous today huh?
“That was rude.” Leo looked up and smiled at Usagi, who moved to sit next to him.
“Sorry, couldn't help myself. You’re just so easy to rile up.” Leo hands Usagi a fri as an apology. Usagi took the fri so Leo counted it as a win.
“Do you normally ‘rile’ up your brothers?” Usagi used air quotes before taking a bite from the fri.
“Oh, all the time. You're not special.” Leo leaned closer to Usagi. “I take that back, you are plenty special but you're still stuck with my teasing.”
Usagi hummed in thought as he stole another fri. Leo tilted his head with a silent question which took a minute for Usagi to notice. When he finally did notice he let out a small sigh. “I don’t know if you can actually answer this but are you still you?”
“Come again?”
“The love potion did it change your personality…” Usagi seemed to pause in thought. “If you even recognize that you got hit.”
“Of course, I know about the potion. It wasn’t exactly the best feeling in the world.” Leo let out a small shudder at the memory.
“It doesn’t bother you?” Usagi couldn’t help but ask. “Someone forcing you to fall in love with a random yokai.”
“Not really.”
“Really!?”
“I mean, how could I?” Leo shrugged as he smiled softly toward Usagi. “It led to us meeting and even without the potion I know you’re a cool guy.”
“Hehe, Thanks…” Usagi looked behind him for a second before glancing back at Leo. “You seem cool too, sometimes.”
“Excuse you!” Leo gasped dramatically as he put a hand on his plastron. “I am always cool waaayy cooler than my brothers! Cleary the coolest mutant you’ve ever met.”
“Mutant?” Usagi tilted his head.
“Haha… don’t worry about it.” Leo quickly waved him off, he didn’t want to scare the greatest guy he’s ever met. That would be the absolute worst.
“Alright.” Usagi seemed content to just not worry about it which was nice. Usagi started fiddling with his ears, suddenly looking nervous once again. Which worried Leo. “Can I ask you something?”
“You just did.”
“Haha, very funny…” Usagi rolled his eyes and didn’t ask his question which Leo did not mean to do. Leo frowned before he gently put his hand on Usagi's, sending a reassuring smile at him. “ Why do you need to stay by me? I know it’s because of the potion but…”
This shocked Leo, he honestly didn’t expect that. Leo took a moment to gather these thoughts before letting out a small breath.
“It’s like… if I’m not somehow near you I’m gonna have a heart attack. “ Usagi sat up quickly. “But also that I need to be here so you're not upset in any way. It’s weird, don't worry about it.”
“...I do worry about you.” Usagi stood up, really taking his time with it. Yuichi sent Leo a small smile before going back to work.
Leo couldn’t help but blush.
_____________
“Do you believe in love at first sight?” Leo whispered as he walked past Usagi. “Or should I walk by again?”
“Stop distracting me from work.”
“Can’t help it,” Leo smirked as he strutted back over to his seat. He heard Usagi sigh and can practically hear the eye roll.
“Soooo, wanna play a game?” Leo smirkes as Usagi, who just titled his head. “Twnety questions. Each. You in?” Leo slammed a hand on the table with a smirk.
Usagi looked at Leo’s hand before slowly looking back up before smirking. Usagi leaned against his arms. “Sounds fun, you go first.”
“Okay, Okay, Okay, uh… Did you always live in the Hidden city?” It was a decent first question could’ve been better but he was rushed.
“Oh no actually! I used to live on a farm with my auntie before moving to a city. Neo Edo, before I eventually moved here.” Usagi talked so fast that Leo needed a moment to process what was being said. “My turn!”
“Favorite musical song?” Usagi smiled up at Leo who just gave him a weird look, making Usagi frown. “What?”
“How’d you know I like musicals?”
“You seem like the type.” Usagi shrugged.
“I’m gonna ignore that. Hmmm, tough question.” Leo put a hand on his chin in thought before snapping his fingers. “Noel’s Lament, no questions asked.”
“I don’t think I heard that one before.” Usagi mumbled, making Leo gasp. Leo stood up and took Usagi's shoulders before shaking him.
“I am SO showing you it later!” Usagi just laughed until Leo reluctantly let him go. He leaned back as he thought of his next question. “What was your favorite thing to do in… Edo Neo?”
“Neo Edo.” Usagi quickly corrected before shaking his hands quickly. “Oh! Okay! So, there was a lot in Neo Edo that I loved doing! Like walking down the street so seeing all the funny machines they have was so amazing!
But I have to say my absolute favorite thing was going to the arcade with my friends.” Usagi finished with a nostalgic smile, mind lost in an old memory.
Leo couldn’t help but smile at the rabbit. It was a nice moment before Usagi started randomly laughing.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Usagi put a hand on his lips to try to cover his laughter and failing misberly. “I just remembered some funny stories. Like this one time….”
The next couple of minutes were spent with Usagi fondly recalling stories from his time in Neo Edo. Usagi told Leo about his family.
Usagi’s aunt seemed like a lovely woman who is always ready to protect others. It sounded like she sacrirced a lot for others, which he deeply respects. Usagi also talked about his old friends.
From the sounds of it, Chizu and Donnie would get along really well. Both seem to have a dry sense of humor and are always completely done with anyone and everyone’s bullshit. Though, Leo defintly things that Chizu can kick Donnie’s ass if needed… maybe. Though, the whole Ninja conversation was very awkward but it didn’t matter.
Leo destrently wanted to meet Kitstune. She seemed like the best person to rob a bank with… not that he’d ever rob a bank. He had a small feeling that he and Kitstune would get along pretty great. He was convinced that if he and Kitstune were together they would outsmart anyone in the Hidden city.
Gen honestly reminded Leo a lot of Raph. A big strong fighter who can easily break a bone on the outside, while on the inside, is the biggest softy you could ever meet. It was clear that the rabbit and rhino were very close. Leo couldn’t help but chuckle when Usagi explained the time he cut off Gen's horn.
The two laughed together before things got quiet. Leo looked up at Usagi just to see him staring at his hands. There was a hint of a smile before it disappeared off his face.
“I really miss it.” Was all Usagi mumbled.
“Miss what?” Leo couldn’t stop the words from coming out. He winced when Usagi looked up at him.
“Neo Edo. Them. Auntie.” Usagi closed his eyes as he leaned his head on his hand. “I miss seeing them everyday. The Hidden city is amazing and nothing I could ever expect but…”
“You’re homesick?” Leo guessed as he leaned closer to Usagi. Watching his every movement, thinking about how to see that beautiful smile again.
“Yeah, I guess I never really thought about it.” Usagi opened his eyes and stared at Leo. “things just…changed really fast. I don’t like it…”
Silenced envolded the table as the words sank. Leo couldn’t help the look he gave Usagi before lifting his hands up. He hesitated for a moment before gently grabbing both of Usagi’s hands. Usagi flinched as his eyes snapped up at Leo, who just gave him a small smile.
“I don’t know what it’s like to leave a family like that but I can say that you have people who are here for you.” Leo rubbed his thumb gently against Usagi’s knuckle. “ I know right now my mind's all messed up from that weird dove's drink but I’m here for you. Potion or not, I’ll always be here for you.”
Usagi just stared at Leo for the longest time making Leo worry about saying the wrong thing before Usagi let out a small chuckle. Usagi intertwined their fingers while giving Leo a soft smile.
“Thank you, Leo…”
____________
“Are you feeling any better, Pepino?” Hueso asked for the third time on his way to the kitchen.
“Perfectly Senor!” Leo smiled as he sent a small wave toward Usagi. Who gave a wave back as he went back to serving a table.
Leo looked back at Hueso just to see him looking between Leo and Usagi with a strange look. Before Leo could call him out on him Hueso just nodded before walking away.
“Rude.”
“He’s just like that.” Usagi's voice caused him to jump in the air. Leo turned to face him with an embarrassed heat on his cheeks before smirking smugly.
“Don’t I know it?” Usagi just laughed before sitting back to him once again. This was their little system for the day. Usagi would serve a couple of tables and while Hueso wasn’t looking, he’d go and hang out with Leo for a little.
“Heyheyhey, Feel my mask.” Leo held out his mask tail for Usagi to feel. Usagi gave him a skstical look before gently grabbing the fabric. “Know what it’s made of? Boyfriend material.”
That caused Usagi to throw his head back and laugh loudly, which wasn’g exactly what Leo was expecting but he wasn’t complaining.
“You really are one of the kind, huh?” Usagi smirked the moment he saw Leo blushing. Cute. His eyes suddenly widened. “I am so sorry! You are not in the right state of mind, I shouldn’t have-”
“Hey, it’s alright.” Leo quickly cut Usagi off. “It’s fine, it was cute.” Usagi and Leo stared at eahcother with big smiles on their faces.
It was a nice moment… too bad it was ruined by his brothers.
They all came into the pizza place screaming the moment they saw how close Leo and Usagi were to eachother.
“Too close! Too close!” Mikey shouted as he pointed over at the two. Leo and Usagi shared a glance before Leo was suddenly tugged away from Usagi and into Raph’s arms.
“I got him! Donnie the cure!” Leo looked up at his brother with an unamused expression when Donnie suddenly appeared next to him.
“Hey, wait-”
“On it!”
Leo felt a small prick in his arm. The last thing Leo saw before his world turned back was Usagi watching him with a concerned expression.
He hoped he would remember this feeling…
____________
A couple of days later, Leo stood at the entrance of Run of the Mill. Leo fumbled with his hands as he thought about going in there.
Remembering how he was acting just a couple of days ago made Leo want to hide in a hole and never home out. But he knew he had to face them again and he couldn't keep hiding. Leo took a deep breath before entering the shop.
The restaurant was still as crowded as ever. Barely even taking a step into the restaurant Leo was stopped by the owner himself.
“Ah, Pepino. Still not poisoned?” Hueso raised a non-existing brow at the Slider, who scoffed.
“First off, I was never poisoned. Second thing, you were there when I got the cure.” Leo counted on his fingers sending the skeleton a look.
“There's nothing wrong with being too sure,” Hueso shrugged. “Especially when it messes with my restaurant.”
“Ugh, don’t remind me.” Leo groaned before gathering all his courage to ask a simple question. “Is Usagi working today? I need to talk to him.” especially since he hasn’t seen the rabbit since he passed out from the cure.
“That depends…”
“On?”
“What you are planning on talking about.” Senor Hueso crossed his arms. Leo did not like the look he was given and crossed his arms.
“...” Leo blushed as he crossed his arms tighter, practically hugging himself.
“Come on, out with it.” Hueso scoffed as he watched the slider shy away. Which was surprising but not impossible. He was acting like an estúpido.
“I just- I just wanted to apologize to him!” Leo looked away from the host as he rubbed his neck. “I was acting weird toward him and he didn’t deserve to deal with that.” When he looked back at the skeleton has a slightly shocked expression before quickly recovering.
“I see…” Hueso moved out of the way. “He is currently serving tables so make it quick.”
“You got it, Bone man.” Leo gave him finger guns before quickly walking further into the pizza place.
It wasn’t hard to find Usagi, His fur stood out in the crowd. Usagi looked up from his notepad and his face lit up when he saw Leo walking toward him.
“Hey, I just, uh…” Leo rubbed his neck as he avoided Usagi's eyes. “I want to say sorry for how I acted. It was totally inappropriate and if I crossed a line then it’s completely understandable for you to never talk to me again-”
Leo was cut off by Usagi holding his hand out. Leo's eyes furrowed as he looked down to see he was holding a slip of paper. Leo hesitantly lifted a hand to take the piece of paper.
“I’m still waiting for our spar, kappa.” Usagi sent Leo a wink before walking away into the break room.
Leo just stood there like a complete fool, completely dumbfounded. Leo slowly looked down at the slip of paper before looking down at it. Written on the paper was a series of numbers with a simple message next to it.
‘Call me. - Yuichi Usagi < 3’
Leo breath hitches as he feels his heart start beating faster with his cheeks blushing. Which was weird, the love potion didn’t work on him anymore, Donnie gave him the cure and made sure that he was free of the potion and-
Leo looked up right as Usagi walked back into the room. Usagi gave Leo a wave which he shyly repeated.
Oh…
