Surprise!

Summary:

In which Yume mentions she's an orphan within Lilia's hearing range. Luckily, he's already prepared.

Notes:

Yume is my MC from Twisted Wonderland. This is just because I was bored.

Work Text:

It was a normal day at Night Raven College. Yume was sitting at the lunch table with Ace, Deuce, and Grim. Currently, they were sharing stories about their families.

"Your turn, Yuu-chan!" Ace cheered. "You never tell us about your family."

Yume hummed to herself, thinking. "Well, back home I have a younger brother and an older sister. My sister went off for college a while ago though and my parents are always too busy coddling my brother to pay me much attention," she sighed. "But, since I'm stuck here with no way home or contacting anyone, I'm pretty much an orphan now."

She said those words with little thought of who could be listening. After all, she had been at Night Raven College long enough for all the hype about a magicless girl attending the school to die down. She also forgot one key fact that could have avoided the situation she would soon end up in: Fae are finicky.

Three tables down sat Lilia Vanrouge, Malleus Draconia, Sebek Zigvolt, and Silver. Three of whom immediately lunged to tackle the oldest in their group, only to end up piled on the ground with Lilia sitting on the table above them.

"Now, now, none of that!" He chided, grinning widely. "After all, you all heard the girl! And I'm sure she would love a new family!"

"Father-"

"Silver, don't you think having a little sister would be good for you?"

Before he could respond, Lilia disappeared. The group groaned knowing this could only end up one way. "I suppose this means I will have to set up a room for the Child of Man in Diasomnia..." Malleus murmured.

"And we'll have to get her a uniform." Silver conceded.

Both ignored Sebek yelling his apologies to Malleus about being unable to catch Lilia before he could disappear to retrieve his new child. But the more Silver thought about it, the more tired he grew. Having a new sister would mean having to help her with homework, keep boys away from her (they did go to an all-boys school, after all) and get her used to the fact that she would now live in Briar Valley, even if the headmaster did find a way to send her home. After all, Fae were finicky but also incredibly protective of what or who ever they viewed as theirs.

"Don't worry, Yu-chan!" Deuce tried to soothe his friend. "Mom will probably like you, so you can stay with me on breaks!"

"You kidding, Deuce? She's definitely staying with me on breaks! She gets two brothers for the price of one, that way!" Ace argued instantly.

Grim chimed in, complaining about how his hench-human had to stay with him.

None of the teens noticed someone suddenly appear beside Yume...

...until a sheet of paper and a pen were both slammed down in from of her. Before she could read it, a voice demanded "Sign here, here, and here!"

"AHH!"

They all jumped, falling over. "Lilia-san?" Yume looked the older student up and down in confusion.

"I'm your new father!" He declared brightly. Yume, not having the energy to argue and certain it would be denied (after all, he was still in high school like the rest of them) did as told, signing the papers.

"YUME!" Her three friends yelled. Ace tried to snatch the sheet away, only for Lilia to grab it first and easily dodge the fireball Grim sent at him. "Don't just sign something because someone tells you to!"

At the very least, Yume had the good temperance to look sheepish.

Lilia looked over the papers, finding that the girl did as told, and smiled wider. "SILVER!"

Silver, hearing his father's call, approached cautiously. "Yes, fa- Lilia?"

"Go get your new sister a Diasomnia uniform!"

He sighed but quickly walked off to do as ordered. Meanwhile, Yume tried to process what had been said. "New...sister?"

"Yes," Lilia confirmed. "I found Silver when he was a baby, and he's been my son since. Since I have just adopted you, this makes you and Silver siblings."

Lilia patted Yume's head. She sat with wide eyes. "I-I thought those papers have to be approved?"

"Under normal circumstances, yes. However, since you weren't born in Twisted Wonderland and therefore have no birth records or official presence, there's no need to do all the formal stuff. So, in other words, the moment you signed these papers, you became my new daughter." Lilia's smile never fell despite the now sputtering teenagers, all lost for words. "Dinner will be at 8:00 sharp in our Dorms and we can show you your new room! I'm cooking, so feel free to bring friends!"

With that, Lilia disappeared as fast as he had previously appeared.

Yume, Ace, Deuce, and Grim looked between each other, all with one question on their minds: Did that really just happen?
