“Um….Kunikida-san?”
Feeling a tug on the end of his sleeve, Kunikida looked over to see the newest member of the agency, Kyouka next to him. He turned his full attention to her. “Yes, do you need something?”
It was only them at the office since everyone else was either on minor cases or on their short breaks since it was a slow day that day.
Kyouka normally wasn’t so shy about anything but she was looking to the side while her other hand was behind her back. “I um…I wanted to…um…”
Tilting his head, Kunikida patiently let her speak, not wanting her to feel awkward. “Yes?”
Her other hand moved from her back and it was revealed to be a small box in her hand. “Here. I got something for you.”
That…that surprised Kunikida. “I…for me?” He pointed at himself in confusion.
Kyouka nodded, both nervous and excited for some reason.
Looking at the wrapped box, Kunikida reach over and took it. He almost thought he was dreaming. “Um….thanks.” He meant it even in slight shock. “May I open it?”
At that, Kyouka nodded with a more excited look on her face.
Unable to contain himself as well, Kunikida slowly unwrapped the box and soon opened the lid. He was surprised to see what was inside.
It was a small snow globe that had an angel with a halo and the scenery was that of a countryside in winter.
Staring at it, Kunikida gently shook it and saw the place snow down inside that tiny world. “I…I…why?” He found his voice after a bit.
Kyouka was silent for a moment before she smiled up at him. “I wanted to give you something special. You did a lot for Atsushi and everyone…I wanted to say…thank you, for not giving up on me…and helping me to do more good…” She was blushing a bit, unused to how emotional the moment was.
Blinking, Kunikida looked at the snowglobe once again and shook it gently. If he were to be honest, he didn’t think he did much or anything for everyone. He wished he can do more. But to be given something as appreciation, to know that at the very least Kyouka wanted to do something special, as small as it was, for him….tear formed in the corners of his eyes. Holding the gift close to his chest, he faintly smiled. “Thank you…I don’t know what else to say but…thank you.”
Kyouka nodded and went up to the man and gave him a side hug, glad that it all worked out in the end. She was glad her feelings were heard and that the other knew that he was appreciated.
